A nightly show can be watched later. Most of us have streaming services these days, or have a DVR to record. I think it's important to comfort your child when they are crying. I always did, and mine slept through the night at a very young age. They knew I was there, and that I would come in the room if they needed hugs. It made them feel very safe and I think that's why they slept through the night at a young age. Even as adults we sometimes need to be comforted in our lives. Imagine a tiny little child being afraid.. and no one comes in to comfort them. 😢

It was disappointing that sleep training, a practice only normalized in recent western culture, was presented as an obvious here. There is nothing wrong with responding to your little one’s cries. They are only small once and they need you and your comfort, especially when they feel vulnerable in the dark.
