Who says mom and daughter in laws can’t get along? This relationship here proves that not only can they get along, but genuinely love each other as family should. Often times, our real/true families are a not the ones we’re born into or from the same community, but somewhere else in the world. We all have a choice live in love or hate. I choose to do my best to walk in love and continue to seek those who choose the same, regardless of our racial/cultural differences. After traveling internationally and spending time in other countries, I know that good people are still out there and can be a true blessing, if you are open to getting to know and learn from them.

Dear Gladys, Congrats on your marriage and new family. Please pardon the length of my comment. I really enjoyed this video. I especially like the way your new Mama took an interest in helping with your hair care. She was absolutely wonderful! Not many people understand the challenges those of us with tight curly hair face to get it into shape and style. It’s a blessing to be married into a family that gets our hair care routine. Your story reminds me of the first time my Mom-in-law saw my natural hair. We went for an extended visit shortly after I had transitioned to natural hair. I had braids put it on so that I wouldn’t have to worry about combing/styling for at least six weeks! It was a total disaster as that year July+August were extremely hot in Ohio, USA. I thought I would go mad from sweaty+itchy hair. After two nights of not sleeping, I decided to remove the braids myself. “Mom” wanted to help but I was scared and did not want to let her. I was afraid of her reaction, but I was wrong. She was very supportive, first she took me shopping to some far-away place to get the right products I needed to un-tangle my hair and sat with me most of the time while I struggled to remove the braids. It took two days removing braids, then wash+blow dry+flat iron. Sadly,I am not one of those females who is gifted and handles her own hair very well, (plus I have much hair). My hubby helped with blow drying and she helped with the flat-iron for those hard to reach places. It was the second time in my life I had braids done and I promised myself that I’d try to avoid it in the future. (Laugh Out Loud!) Cherish your Mama and much blessings for a long and happy life. We celebrate 21yrs next month!

I have never seen this type of care put into anyone...even by their own mothers, unless they are very young. It is good to be very clean. I am African American and hair can be washed very often to keep dirt and oil from building up on the scalp. Just follow up with a good conditioner. They also sell a Co-Wash that has conditioner and shampoo together so you won't have to do both separately. You should be able to use African american and caucasian co-washes. Just try one for caucasian hair first because they are sometimes cheaper, but have a lot of moisturizer agents in them. If you're going to wash your hair throughout the week, you can wash it with the braids and twists in, maybe every other time you wash. I love the way she cares for you. Yes, keep everything clean. I saw you clean your apartment and you did an awesome job!

She has to use hair products that are compatible with her hair, mot those that are compatible with your hair. You can see she has very coiled hair. When she washes and conditions it, it looks very beautiful. So, obviously she knows what to do.

You should wash your hair every week and use a deep conditioner on it. That way it won't be so difficult to manage. And you are better off just washing it when you take a shower but wash your hair first whilst in the shower then condition and then just shower your body whilst the conditioner works in your hair.
