My Choice Surprised Me. A Miniature Hobbyist's Analysis of the Cosmere RPG Kickstarter

I think your analysis is good, and it's important to realize exactly what you want and why. I personally feel more of a collector + ttrpg player, so I went ahead and did get the highest tier, with the complete digital add on. I plan on playing through the adventures virtually on our podcast, and have found physical books to be handy to have while I DM virtually. I then also want to create robust adventures, maybe even for others to play through, so getting the world guides also makes sense. I backed the miniatures campaign and thus also wanted to grab these miniatures for the collection and hobby painting. What's nice about kickstarter + backerkit is you get time to make those decisions, imo. What's nice about Dragonsteel and Brotherwise in particular is that if you can't back during the campaign, they almost always have everything available after fulfillment.

Love this! Being given the time to dig in and getting to your why is important. I've been on a handful of DnD adventures virtually and liked having the digital player sheet as we chatted over Discord. I would love to commit to the RPG playing level, but my current priorities don't give me enough time to commit.

I went for the Add-ons only tier. Roshar book pack, adversary tokens, maps, and dice. $158. More than enough to play a Stormlight Campaign and be able to play tactical skirmishes conveniently. This is the pledge I would have been completely happy with if there was not a Mistborn RPG, which is what I originally thought to begin with. Will almost certainly pick up the Mistborn World Guide too eventually, but this way everything ships in one wave and I can decide on Mistborn after trying out the Stormlight stuff.

That's a good strategy to see how Stormlight stuff pans out first to see if you want to get into the Mistborn RPG.

Ive bought the GM tier + the minis (Including the previous kickstarter ones! because i couldnt get em) the 45 dollar dice its too expensive. but the rest seems awesome

Love to hear it! There is a ton of great stuff in this kickstarter to choose from (and I agree that the advanced dice set was a little much for my taste).

I also used a spreadsheet but I wanted all the books, dice, minis and item cards. The best option turned out to be the GM tier with the minis addon. Just leaving out the fancy dice saved me quite a but

A dice set for $45!? GM tier with the minis addon is a good route.

I did the exact opposite of you. I was tempted by the collector bundle but ultimately i'm a gamemaster and couldn't paint those minis properly to save my life. I opted for the gm tier which is what i really need.

I liked how they had bundles to cater to people's preferences. And when you're ready to give mini painting a try, let me know! I was awful at it for years and hated the process, but recently have come to really enjoy it. Still not a great painter, but I'm learning :)

As someone who is a fan of the Cosmere with the likelihood of me ever engaging in the TTRPG being highly unlikely, I went for the Reader tier, I intend to select the World Guides once the Backerkit opens. That being said I am still curious about the canon scenes in the other books and of course the art, but I'm hoping someone will share those bits of intel for those of us who are interested in it, but not the game itself.

Thanks for sharing! Sounds like we align on our thoughts around the World Guides. I know we'll miss out on some art from the rule books, but maybe we can pick those up electronically via retail later on.

I've been going for The Collector, haven't really rpg in over 20 years, but as the tilt of this plage level suggests, I'm a collector and I live in Norway so I'm not sure if it will come here and how much it will cost if it does. Still regret not buying the two big statues in the last campaign. Then it hurt my collecting soul a little that I couldn't go all in on the Words of Radiance Leatherbound campaign and had to settle for only 1 Radiant Pack, but I couldn't justify the price of $650 + $125 in shipping, or it could, but unfortunately I also have to pay for rent., eat food and all other expenses. I think your analysis seems to make sense for what you want, but I'm a little surprised that you drop the dice, 6 of them can be bought barrels without the SA logo on them, but The Plot dice is a little more difficult right now, is certainly only one D6 fixed with other symbols on it and can easily be replaced with a normal D6, you just have to remember what is what or for that matter do it yourself with a blank D6. Not entirely sure if I'll play this at all, as none of my friends know what Cosmere is or have any interest in doing so, but I want it in my Cosmere collection. Then I'm busy with Warhammer The Old World/Necromunda/Mordheim for the next few years

Great comment, thanks for sharing your perspective! I don't have anyone nearby who knows Cosmere, but I'm building up a small gaming group of other dads with young kids and am slowly building them up to trying out the Bridge 9 adventure. I'm excited to see their reaction to the miniatures and the RPG style game. That Plot die is an interesting one because it is the only unique die in the set. But I've gotten used to using a d6 as a d3 through my Age of Sigmar games that I'll proxy the d6 as the Plot die. If I want to get fancy, I could have my friend 3D print the plot die from the stretch goal they recently announced.

I am at GM + minis. I could by a single d20 dice if available but not all for 45 dollars. Seems like an easy cut.

I was close to following you on that one. I've got dice coming out of my ears around here with my Warhammer armies. I'd rather spend the $45 on more minis! :)
