Love the idea of having your classroom library all around the room! Also just realized the importance of being able to see hiding spots! Thank you will definitely keep that at the top of the list when deciding my classroom lay out this year!

In a training we did this past week, we discussed customized learning where we will customize learning and lessons to meet the individual learning needs of our students. I will be starting my first year of teaching in 3rd grade! 😀 I am super excited to start on this journey and I am so thankful and blessed to have been given this opportunity. I am liking the classroom arrangement. You have a great view of your classroom and where your students will be throughout the room. I am planning on letting my students choose their seats at Open House (our Meet The Teacher night). That will set the pace for student choice in my classroom.

I use a rolling standing cart (think hospital tray but smaller with more shelves) for my laptop/document camera. It keeps all MY stuff in a small space and if I need to spread out I sit at a student table. I'm not allowed to get rid of my desk, so I compromised by having a small table that I use for filing.

A podium with wheels make like a edger round it to your laptop doesn’t fall off and then some shelves with organization and then you can wheel it around the room and you can also be centered.

For the “teacher zone” area, I use to work for a preschool and I had a few different places I would keep my laptop, iPad, papers, and etc... The counters were a big help, as well as a bookshelf and closet. I also had mirrors set up on the walls so that I could see everyone if I was at the small group table which was were the counter was, the bookshelf, and closet.
@BridgingLiteracy6 жыл бұрын
I think that you address some of the confusion. 👍 I still have 'stuff' and storage, I just don't need to have a specific 'me' area.
@tnorristowler6 жыл бұрын
The tall bookshelf really helped with my personal books, a plastic storage container for my pens, sharpies, etc., and things I always grabbed for. The counters usually had my electronics because they had outlets over them, a small bookshelf (like yours) for my clipboard, student name tags, emergency bag by the door, and a smaller closet for things I really didn't want my PreK students touching. I usually did my work beside my students, so that I could spend more time with them and get to know them better.

As a teacher who doesn’t have a teacher area I can tell you it’s a struggle but doable, I put all my personal stuff in a cabinet and I sit at the tables with the kids or stand at one of my counters when I am doing something.

Your music choice was perfect (especially with your hat; that made me laugh)! Concert looked like fun! I’m also one of those people who have never been to a concert. I have a few questions: How did you get your hands on so many books!? Where did you find your furniture? Did you have it in your house before or did you find them at yard sales? Why did you decide on the room layout you have vs. typical desks? Where do students keep their supplies if they don’t have their own desks?
@BridgingLiteracy6 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Trent edited the video today, otherwise who knows when it may have gone up! 1. Books - Yard Sales! Tell them that you are a teacher and show them your passion!! 2. I purchased most of my furniture from used furniture stores. I move it in and out quite a bit. Our current dining room table was in my room for a year. 3. I dislike desks, they move around too much. In my opinion, tables offer more of a collaborative environment. 4.. We have community supplies for glue, pencils, etc... We do not have any textbooks. All other supplies (notebooks/folders) are kept on a storage shelf in the classroom. We try to do the majority of our work on devices since we are 1:1. Students are expected to bring their personal/library book and work folder to and from home each day.

The Lettered Classroom That sounds amazing! I have maybe 2:1 iPad 2s. I’m thinking about trying out a new app called Seesaw this year to track student work, so I hope it works out as well as I hope. Have you heard of it or know anyone who’s used it? It’s going to be my first year, so I’m pretty nervous. I see you and your amazing classroom and organization and just feel, wrongly, that I need need all that too. I’m trying to find a balance with my classroom materials and my finances. haha Thank you for your videos. It’s like having a teacher friend that I’ve never met! 😊

Oh how I wish there was a district near me that believed in customized learning for my profoundly gifted kid. My kid reads at a college level but they only allow him to read up to 6th grade for content and I get the content issue but it would be nice if he wasn’t repeating the same curriculum for the 3rd year. Since that might actually teach him to love ❤️ school again and want to do his work. After all he’s not stupid he knows it’s being repeated over and over again. Then again he won’t even have a math teacher next year just a computer 🖥 that he can also work at home on so he should have a years worth of math done by Christmas. 🎄
