Here is a short video of my climbing method this past season. I used the seat of a Lone Wolf hand climber and a full (30') length rappel line (Sterling canyon lux), I attache to my line with a Petzl Gri-Gri assisted braking device. Remember to back up your device!

That's an awesome way to ascend a tree man. Awesome video man! Love it. Appreciate the explanation. Thank you. Ascending/descending tress is a whole new world of fun! Keep it up man, really enjoy/look forward to your content.

I'm going to be trying a foot ascender this year. I have quite a bit of some 1" width outdoor use webbing to make a loop for my right foot to attach to a Garda hitch. I'll still be using a climbing line that goes up & over a union with a hitch tied to it. I will have a method to stand up with the loop & then advance my hitch upward & keep doing the process until I'm up @ the height I want. Then I will remove the loop but remain using the Garda on my other bridge as a backup when I repel with a Munter hitch. Just trying to be stealthy w/o much movement while having 2 bridges tied into my system for redundancy. I don't have trees w/o limbs all the way up so that Lone Wolf seat which is great is not as open of a system for me to advance from a 2 bridge system to a 1 bridge & 1 lanyard system so I can move my main bridge over the limb in my way. But everyone has different conditions & we need to adapt to them. Nice video with many options. If I did a video like that here in MN it would be 5 minutes & I would have to switch gloves half way in, ha haha 😄. Take care.

I’m planning an “Efficient Saddle Hunting” playlist. I will go use more on one sticking and pre-rigging, using one rope, and minimizing gear and maximizing speed and safety. I’ve not used a back up bridge line as I don’t see the benefit, at least I didn’t until you mentioned using one over a limb while climbing. Sounds like you have a great system!

@@thefullaj I just like to be redundant while having what I call an open system. When I scout or look for antlers I like to leave presets behind. I don't have many tree setups where I'm in a situation where a tree is bare the 1st 20 feet up. More like junk I have to get above to ascend higher. On every setup I have a factory sewn loop that goes over a union & that loop comes down on my left side. I then have a 5 foot Beeline split-tail that is just a little smaller diameter than my climbing line. This split-tail is heat resistant & has a very tight loop on the end which won't move on my carabiner. I like to use the Fusion Essence carabiner. On the smaller end the carabiner has a slight bump on it. The small loop of the Beeline seats perfectly next to that bump. Then on the other side of that bump is where your climbing line loop on your left goes onto the carabiner. Then u just tie a Blake's onto the right side of your climbing line. I tie a stopper knot onto the tail end of that Beeline. For self tending I put a loop prusik on the left side of my climbing line about 15" above the carabiner. I tie the 1 foot tail of the Beeline to that prusik loop & pull myself up. That Beeline split-tail is heat resistant so u just pull & u can be up 10 to 15 feet in seconds. Say u get up 12 feet & a branch is in your way u can just put your linemans lanyard around the 🌳 to hold u up. Putting slack into your climbing line allows u to detach that loop on your left & move your loop around that branch. Then u hook it into your carabiner & start pulling. Once your lanyard has slack u take it off the 🌳 & continue to climb. The 1st time I did this I figured once I was up about 15 feet & I wanted to advance my climbing rope I would just put my linemans lanyard around the 🌳 to hold me. Then I would take my throwball & attach it to 550 paracord & throw the ball up over a new union crotch in the 🌳 that I couldn't hit from the ground. Once I have the paracord over that branch I take the right side of the paracord & tie it above that factory sewn loop. Pulling on the left side of the paracord that loop ends up to the left side & I hook it to my carabiner & I'm climbing. I won't climb anymore unless I'm in a self tending open setup.

Get a bungee for the platform an you’ll never worry about dropping it.

Bungee is a great idea. I’ve been tying the base of it around the tree and using it as a “preset” this season.
