Seriously, CNA's really do the grunt of the work and the dirty work that the nurses REFUSE to do. I feel they should make no less than $15.00 in home health care and start off with at least $20.00 in a facility. It would be sweet if legislation could be passed to allow this.

No, don't agree with you. Nurses are not refusing to do your work. However, they can't do yours and get theirs done too. Also, the CNA, can't legally do anything that outside their scope of practice, so they can't reciprocate and help the nurse with any of her work. Most CNAs spend one month in the classroom. The more time you go to school in the nursing field, the more money you will make. It's unrealistic to think your pay should be up there at a licensed nurses level. Stop belly aching , and go to nursing school. I have met very few CNAs, that would not be capable of becoming nurses. I have worked as both a CNA and a nurse. Both are hard work. CNA, is hard, mostly physical, direct hands on care . Did you not know that before you took the class ? No employer hires nurses and pays them more to do the job, you were hired for. Know that we all are responsible for answering lights. A nurse can do what is needed while in the room, but if it is not urgent, as a nurse a judgement call is made whether or not time allows, or to ask the CNA , to do it.

Why don't all of us make more money, regardless of title ? The real truth is you need to be aware if you work in a Medicare funded facility, that is how Medicare residents, pay for their care. Medicare pays low reimbursement rates and they are slow . This is why salaries are so low in Medicare facilities. Hospitals, government, nonprofits pay better.

Bea Co --Thank you for your commentary. FYI I am a nurse. While I understand your point, I think you totally missed mine. You state you were a cna and yet you don't sound like you truly understand their plight. Where I live no nurse starts at $15-$20/hr as I suggested they should pay cna's. No one is asking anyone to reciprocate anything. Yes we understand the scope of practice. I am just not one of those nurses that will allow my patients to wait for a cna when I can do it for them myself because "that's not my job, that's the cna's job!"

I would say most of my Nurses help with everything when they can. I even have a few that ask me occasionally if they can help me with anything. I work in a surgical hospital and work inpatient. Ratio is 6:1. Very thankful to God for this type of lifework.

I live in Brooklyn NY and I make $21.54/HR. I've been at my job going on 12 yrs in May 2020 if God spares my life. I literally live 3 short blocks from my job so that saves me money on car fare and other expenses. I thought about leaving my job because it can be redundant and my supervisor is a PITA ( Pain in the ass 😂). But I figure I would be a damn fool to leave where I'm at. I'm 49 yrs old and I'm not getting any younger. So I'll just stick it out. Plus I would not be making what I am now at a new facility minimum wage in nyc is 15/HR and I'll be damn if I'll demote myself to that wage not after 12 yrs experience. But thanks for sharing Key👍

Here in Alberta Canada, $19.00 is the starting wage for a CNA... $24.00-$27.00 for LPN and $34.00-$40+ for RN... A $15.00 is just a minimum wage for other jobs such as Walmart etc.. i guess it really depends on States/Provinces.
@kiearacelina
@kiearacelina 6 жыл бұрын
Exactly! In Quebec a Cna salary can vary from 12-20$ depending on where you work,LPN 22-26$ and an rn 30-40$ depending on the degree they hold.So yes what province you live in makes a big difference .

hospital cnas make a lot more money where I live. Average nursing home where i live pays about 14-15 base pay +1 dollar for 2nd or 3rd shift +1 dollar for weekends +2 dollars for any non regular shift. the local hopital is like 19 an hour at least for 2nd or 3rd shift anyways and +3 dollars on weekend and they can move up and make well over 20 an hour. Rent for a one bedroom is like 700 a month though w/o heat and electric so not super cheap cost of living but not horrible I guess. All the facilities are private.
@kiearacelina
@kiearacelina 6 жыл бұрын
Where I live,most nursing homes don’t give you any extra money for working nights or evenings,everyone gets the same pay and 14$ -15$ is probably the most you’ll make in a nursing home here.Hospitals on the other hand do pay more for nights and evening where I live.Most apartments where I live are all inclusive so you get your rent,heat,water for one price and it’s usually about 600-700$ for a pretty decent 1 or sometimes 2 bedroom apartment.

I am a cna and i work in long term facility. i make 12 an hour and i am living paycheck to paycheck. i just want to provide well for my kids but its hard when ur working all the time. i live in a small town i don't have many options for work. its hard to get ahead and move to a bigger town for more work when u barely can afford rent. but i make to much so dhs or gov wont help. i really feel i'm working my ass of in a facility that does not apperciate there employees. i work 16 hour shift, get mandated everyday cuz we r so short staffed, the nurses do cna work, there so much drama. i work night shift. but my town has 3 facilities, there not much work to choose from. i just want to be able to live comfortable and provide for my kids.

Im thinking about doing this, im 23 years old but it wouldnt be like a dream job or anything id just want a better chance at job stability and in my town id be making more than what im currently making as a cashier, in nebraska its $11 per hour base, and i have a lot of friends who worked and are working as cnas and got jobs quickly, ive thought about doing a fast track adn to bsn bridge program to be a full fledged RN and then specializing in neonatal nursing but idk if nursing is for me i think being a cna would also be good cause it takes only like a month at most to become one and i can gain clinical experience for if i choose to be a PA or a full fledged doctor

Well personally I don’t think working as a cna will help you much with becoming a MD or P.A. but it will be good for you to work in a medical environment so you can get a feel of what it’s like so you can chose whether you want to become a nurse or a doctor. Best of luck !

If you don’t understand taxes find a good income tax calculator and it usually shows what federal and provincial tax is and what percent you pay in taxes compared to the percent you take home. The tax percentage gets larger when your pay increase past a certain amount, but stays the same within barriers so your take home is more within the same bracket but less at the start of a new bracket

I hope that is based on your region of the USA. Cost of living makes a difference I suppose.

All this who works harder talk is ridiculous in the comment section. Being a nurse in general CNA to damn ARNP is hard work and I wouldn’t sit up here and downplay anyone’s experience. Unfortunately every work environment isn’t going to be perfect for any nurse . Some CNAs get lucky and have a nurse who’s willing to help out and don’t believe their too good to change a patient diaper ever now and then. The bottom line end of the day we all got important jobs to do to help take care of people and it’s best we all try to understand each other’s roles and work together.
