Caught lightning in a bottle TWICE with their original look and then the Goatheads. Two insanely nice looks, and their minor league team has probably the most iconic look in the entire AHL. Throw in the Bisons that had that bottle cap logo, and the fact they went out on top as champs, sweeping the other team in the Finals before the Sabres took over. Buffalo has always been solid when it comes to hockey.

Fun fact: The Sabres won their first 10 games in the "Buffaslug" and tied a franchise record with 113 points that season.

The Sabres current jersey set of their home and away is nice glad they went back to the royal blue classic set again but their away jersey is one of the best in the NHL

You need a Buffalo Bisons AHL bottle cap jersey. That jersey is where they got the 40th anniversary jersey word mark. Also, surprise you don't like that jersey. It's beloved in Buffalo. You should also get to a game in Buffalo this season! The vibes are off the chart!

Very appropriate that Shannon is wearing a flamingo shirt during his Buffalo Sabres jersey collection. Is Shannon aware that there is a large flamingo lawn ornament population in the suburbs of Buffalo? Love the flamingo shirt and love the 40th Sabres jersey, 50th jersey, and heritage/winter classics! Referred to sometime as “Cheektovegas” due to high polish population and Vegas has an association with flamingos. Maybe the snowbird idea has some merit as well. All I know is that has been embraced whatever the original reason was

How I found a new subscriber for Shannon. I was walking in Los Gatos, Cali, the home of Patrick Marleau. I was wearing a Sharks jersey. A guy from Minnesota liked my Sharks gear and became animated about hockey. Turns out he was a Minnesota state of hockey native. I asked him if he was aware of the hockey guy on KZbin and he said no. I gave him the Shannon info and he was thrilled! One more new subscriber !

A few notes from an avid Sabres fan & jersey collector. The first time the textured Buffalo came out was the 2018 winter classic, not the 50th anniversary. Also The word mark one is the 40th Anniversary & a throwback to the Buffalo Bisons old Pepsi bottle cap logo (AHLteam that became the Cincinnati Swords once Buffalo got) the NHL franchise. You're missing 2 that I consider essential, (Ironically the same logo) The 2008 winter classic (the first ever). Looks like the white OG jersey with a winter classic patch. Then there was an alternate during the Buffaslug era for like 1 season. A throwback to the Blue 80s one you have. But there is 1 difference numbers on the front lol. It's super rare, and very similar to others so I understand not wanting one. But as a Sabres fan it's one of the couple I'm missing, and need for my collection. I also count the Rebooks & Adidas navy blues as seperate jerseys/eras but I understand why most people don't consider them seperate & just go for the Adidas.

That’s quite a collection. I have to say I like the current versions of their jerseys the best. It looks like the original ones, only better. Definitely agree with you about the texturing on the bison. I think they definitely need to make the “goat head“ (I still don’t get why it’s called that) the permanent 3rd jersey. I like the way the original one looked better, but the new version is fine. They should definitely have that as a regular alternate jersey. The slug jerseys have a pretty nice design, although I don’t really like the dark, navy blue on them, but it’s just that logo. I think that logo deserves the criticism.

Sabres had the shoulder logos done in the late 70s. The wife of the owner Seymour Knox saw the Bruins had placed logos on the shoulders of their jerseys... so Buffalo followed suit prior to the 78-79 season.

Funny thing about that "Buffaslug". An Icethetics video from a bit over a year ago showed concept designs from when teams rebranded (or attempted to), and one of the rejected concept logos for the Sabres' 06-07 rebrand was the exact same thing as what they went with...BUT IT HAD THE LEGS. The ONE logo that would've looked the most like an actual buffalo, and less like a slug wearing a buffalo mask...and the management went with the LEGLESS version. I'd be angry, but it IS the Sabres who approved that, so I'm simply not surprised.

I love Buffalo. In Niagara region I grew up closer to Buffalo than Toronto, though Leafs were still everything. So torn by the nostalgia of the Leafs, Red Wings, and Sabres all around. When it's not at Toronto's expense, I'll always root for them!

I always liked the "New York" jerseys that Buffalo and the Rangers wore after 9/11. Apart from the sentiment behind them they were really clean designs for word marks.

Regarding the 70s/80s original jerseys...I thought that the blue ones (road jerseys at the time) looked a bit too plain, especially in the shoulder area. Way too much blue with no contrast. I imagined that they should put some sort of patch on the shoulder...something like the "C" with the crossed tomahawks that Chicago has on their jerseys. I wrote a letter to the team in the mid 70s suggesting that very thing and got a letter in reply from the GM at the time, none other than Punch Imlach! (Unfortunately, the letter was lost many years ago, probably when I moved out of my parents' home in the 80s) He thanked me for the suggestion but said that the team had no plans to make any changes to the uniform at that time. I'm sure that there must have been many others who made the same suggestion because a short time later (and much to my surprise), the smaller version of the logo appeared on the shoulders! Knowing that back then, the team was very "cost conscious" (I.e., cheap), rather than creating a unique secondary logo, they just used the mini version of the main logo (which was already being produced for sale to the public). Although it didn't come along until years later, the "B" pierced by the sword would have been perfect, and was more along the lines of what I originally had in mind when making the initial suggestion.

I think the Sabres are one of the few franchises where they look better in royal blue than navy blue. I always preach that Vancouver and my own Oilers should use navy blue, and the Islanders and Rangers should even consider it if there wasn't so much history going on. The Jets' heritage uniforms are a great example. So when Buffalo announced a return to the lighter blue I was disappointed but quickly converted. I will say that I am a fan of the white Buffaslug jersey. I think it's slick and super unique without being ugly (or at least too ugly). That said Ryan Miller was one of my heroes growing up so I may be biased.

Hello from Montreal, fantastic job on the jerseys. I don’t even own one. I do have practice jerseys a white and black one that I used for pickup. I said I would look into buying a Steve Shutt one. Anyways for all those colours and designs you have, hypothetically if you were to design a team jersey home and away for your meet up league or game what would you have? You can copy or have your own design logo team name etc. Let say they can be the next All stars jerseys. You can even sell them as mech…. All the best

The throwback goat head jersey was the one I was dying for back in the late 90's-early 00's when they wore the black and red ones. However they missed a little and the throwback needs just a little more blue or gold accent to it and it would be perfect.

I miss the home whites from the 70’s/80’s… But in the 90’s the league had to mandate that the whites were away.. bleeping Wings had to start that trend…The look for now is more like the 70’s but witha the lighter blue… I know many love the Satanic goat head jerseys and I can’t argue we had good memories in them… That’s the Hasek years… very memorable…

Did the Sabres ever sell their first Winter Classic jerseys, the one against the Penguins? I feel I've never seen anyone with it. I know it's pretty identical to the original, but seeing that even Shannon doesn't have it, now I'm curious.

They did, but since it was early in the Reebok era (2007-08 season) the NHL decided to release a replica version that is different than the on-ice jerseys (they are very similar to the CCM Vintages of the era). They did the same with the Penguins, and the Red Wings and Blackhawks the year after. Those 3 teams eventually used those Winter Classics as thirds in future seasons, so the Reebok Premiers are somewhat easier to find, but since the Sabres didn’t that ‘08 is quite rare.

Current logo and jerseys are so freakin boring. Plain blue and yellow and no shoulder patch does not speak to me. 2:03 - The BEST the Buffalo Sabres have ever had. The logo and the colors was awesome. This was when they also was a contender in the league, and the "Dominik Hasek era". They should never had taken this away.

I'm a Buffalo fan, but....Best jerseys in the league. I know the 50th Anniversary was for the 50th season, but not having that as an alternate is a huge mistake IMO. When that jersey came out it was unanimously loved by not just everyone in The NHL world, but you were seeing players from other sports (NFL, NBA) wearing it and saying it's the cleanest jersey ever. They sold out asap and that was that. People love them and they make a lot of money??? Nah. Let's get rid of those...
