My friend and I are education majors, the only difference is that she's elementary and I'm secondary. All we talk about is our future students and how caring and supportive we're going to try to be for all of them....as well as decorating our classrooms lol. We're only freshman but time flies by so we'll be first year teachers before we know it! Thank you for all the amazing advice! :)

I have been struggling in school for awhile. I'm back at school for the first time in years to get my masters,. This is a career change for me and I feel so behind compared to everyone else that has an education background. I've been feeling so dumb and unsure of myself. Then I started observations in school today and meeting all the kids and seeing real teachers in action reminded me why I wanted this in the first place. It just gave me so much joy to be in the classroom! I can't wait until I have my own classroom!

I love that even though you weren’t in a sorority yourself you still have an informed and respectful attitude toward the value that sororities can have in young women’s lives, especially in 2019 when many organizations are taking overtly feminist stances toward current politics and women’s’ issues in particular!! Sororities are so much more than the “partying” people always assume we do. They are professional organizations that help women grow in their personal lives, grow as leaders, grow in their academics, and as grow servants of the community and the world. Sororities are also sacred spaces for women to discuss uniquely women’s issues without the pressure of the male gaze, and are spaces that should be preserved and protected in a modern society that gives young women so many reasons to put themselves down. I’m an alumna of an amazing sorority (Alpha Xi Delta - TFJ to any sisters reading this!!) and I absolutely loved my experience and grew so much over those four years. 💕

This is such a good video, Britt. 💛 I'm a middle childhood education major -- ELA and Social Studies (Ohio divides teacher licensure into early, middle, and secondary) and as a Junior things are pretty busy and the workload is pretty dense all the time. Things have been going fairly well this semester, but I've been feeling more anxious lately (which sucks considering I've had it under control for a while). I have 4 classes, two choirs, and a job on campus as an admissions tour guide. Each week things get busier and busier and I have moments where, if i think about all of it at once, I feel suffocated. This video was a little bit of self care time for me, and a reminder to slow down a little to check in with myself. Thank you. Also, the bit about the first year being rough sometimes and holding on through it bc it will get better -- that was totally true for me as well. I had an almost traumatic roommate situation my freshman year and I was pretty lonely, but I got through it and last year I got randomly matched to live with two new people (and one from freshman year) and they became my best friends. In fact, one of them is from the Dominican Republic and she has become my absolute best friend in the entire world and I'm so grateful that the universe brought her into my life. Just when I needed her. 💛💛💛

Ms. Brittany, this video made me really excited for college. However, I know I will miss school when I graduate in 2024. I am in eighth grade, my final year of middle school. I have loved this school from the day I walked into this school on the first day of sixth grade. I feel like most people are unsure and indecisive of what major to choose in college. My parents are both Indian engineers. I know I am not to study engineering. I am going to follow my real dream instead of following the crowd. I have invariably had this inclination and connection with words and stories. I was absorbed in literature. My parents noticed that and started taking me to the library every weekend. I was outgoing and an extrovert. I had friends, but I chose my spend my free time reading a book and devouring it or writing something that I was passionate about. I am thirteen years old and I am the outlier or the odd one out in my group of friends. Math is not for me. I want to study it now and get rid of it as soon as possible. English was always my favorite subject. My ultimate dream is to become an author and I know it will happen. I will work as an English teacher or professor for a few years to spread the love of language. I endeavor to improve my time management skills. I love you

I started at FSU over the summer (go noles!) I had to leave because my mental health decreased so quickly at the beginning of summer. It was hard leaving and coming home. I shouldn’t have gotten into FSU, my SAT was low, but it was my top pick and my actually my birth stone is Garnet. Additionally acceptance letters came out on my actual birthday. It was a whirlwind and I was hyped but I knew deep down I wasn’t ready. I’m going to community college while I try to figure myself out. I’m in the honors program and I got a scholarship so I can save money now! I don’t know what the future will be, I’ll probably end up at USF, but part of me wants to go back to FSU and try to over come it. It’s a dark place for me but I want to be strong about it. Literally your videos were some of the first that I watched when I came home and I felt better. I’ve been on a self care/self discovery journey ever since!! Thanks for being a light! Had so many of the same experiences as you in college. Relate’n hard, girl.❤️. Completely hear you on the overwhelming-ness of student teaching and preparedness. I honestly think they teach us to really hate the start of our careers and how horrible is that?? I was deathly afraid of getting a teaching job until I was drawn back into it (MANY) years later via my own inner self &motivation when teaching became a completely different mindset. One that was far from what I knew it as when I was in college. God, there’s gotta be a better way to exonerate the value and worth of teaching.

Five Foot One Teacher Yes it’s certainly a completely different experience once having your own classroom. However my (much later) inner motivation came before I even ever stepped into my own classroom. I was driven back by different factors than what college pressed upon or presented to me. It just all became very Interesting to me in retrospect.

I’m currently taking dual enrollment Education and English courses though a local school. But fall of 2020 I will be a official freshman in college. The college I’m going to is only an hour away from home but I’m still just a little nervous. This video really helped me out a lot. 🤩

That is so so exciting. It’s very natural to be nervous. Good nerves!

im only in 8h grade and im interested in being a teacher. so do you have to go to collage for 4 years before and then go back to become a teacher, or do you not have to take the first four years and only go to teaching school. ive asked and searched the internet but it doesn't answer my question. i love your videos and your the reason i decided over being a nurse or orthodontist for the money, to do my dream job of being a teacher.

For those who are struggling with FTCE exams the navaED study books helped SO much! All of us in the English Ed program right now at FSU used the study book and passed the first time!

I have 3 semester lefts of college after this one, last one being student teaching. I have developed such anxiety about state licensing tests that I am just so scared and sick. I am doubting everything and can’t imagine getting to the end goal which is graduating. I don’t know how to get past my anxiety.

I have been there. My best advice is to truly believe in yourself. Study the way you know works best for you and then believe in your heart that you’ve done everything you could. Go into that test as calm as you can-a lot of self care and love to you!

There’s actually early childhood education which is prekindergarten-2, elementary education which is actually k-6, and then secondary which is 6-12 (from your neighborhood FSU college of education receptionist 😂). A pot for every kind of teacher! Thanks for sharing, Britt!

How important do you think educational history and individual educational philosophies are? I’m a freshman right now studying education and it’s so overwhelming to see the differences between other schools. I’m learning about educational pioneers and creating my own educational philosophies, but some of my friends at other schools don’t even look at educational history or pioneers or think about developing a philosophy and dive right in to lesson planning.
@fivefootoneteacher5 жыл бұрын
hmmm I think it is important to have your own ideals and philosophy. we had to write one in college! I say this because I think it really helps you reflect on who you are as a person and who you want to be as an educator in your classroom. this philosophy will develop over the years, but I think it is a great place to start as a college student!

Is the social science education major a good idea? I keep hearing that it's hard to get a job with it and I should just major in the subject I want to teach. Like political science, history, etc. I'm also in Florida
