lately my "comfort watches" have been KZbin videos about movies and shows. I usually find myself putting them on in the background at work, when I'm eating and don't want to commit to a full 1.5 hour movie, or when I'm puttering about at home. your content has become one of those regular channels I put on. love the videos and already can't wait for the next one

Honestly, comfort movies are such an unspoken genre of movie on this platform. This video itself is going to become a comfort video to me to put on- because I love hearing why certain movies give people joy and this video speaks volumes to that. My Neighbor Totoro is one of my top comfort movies so hearing you talk about it was amazing

"The Aristocats". The most underrated Disney film. A story about love and the willingness to sacrifice one's carefree attitude in order to fully devote yourself to people you care deeply about. Thomas O'Malley is just such good guy while also being a flawed guy who is able to get past those flaws for the ones who finally complete him.

I’ve noticed recently that most of my comfort movies are animated and I think maybe it has something to do with childhood escapism. Studio Ghibli films especially works as comfort movies for me. Also, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has also kind of become a comfort movie for me as I’ve seen it 3 times in 3 weeks and it always leaves me with a warm feeling inside As for live action, simple and lighthearted comedies do the trick. A lot of spoof movies are comforting because they are lighthearted and silly and that’s something we just need sometimes. A lot of John Hughes films are also really comforting to me

Might be weird but my comfort films are all ones that make me cry. It's hard to do naturally. So seeing a character going through stuff, and some nice swelling music on top, gives me that nudge towards catharsis.

My comfort movie is iron man, i watched it when i was a kid along with my older brother. It conforts me bc, it remembers me of my best role model and how much he has grown, and even if he is almost 40 now, we still share moments like that, i like to remember the first movie we ever watched together

Great Channel kid. I have four movies i hold dear to my heart and i watch them every year on a specific day. Number one is Good Will Hunting, second There Will Be Blood, third No Country For Old Man and the forth one is a recent release Drive My Car. All four kind of have a theme of a Father figure and they all basically remind me of my dad. Is hard for me to express my feeling into words or any other way and movies understand me. Good Will Hunting always gets to me at the end "it's not your fault". How Daniel Plainview looks at his son with honor and how they work together and the honestly at the end. In No Country For Old Man at the end when Tommy Lee's character talks about the dream he had with his dad: I'm older then my dad, he will be the younger man when i see him. (crying right now). And Oh my glob DRIVE MY CAR perfect movie. Perfect movie. It took me a few days to fully process that movie. OH my glob sooo good. "Those who survive keep thinking about the dead. In one way or another that will continue". Movies are life.

As I was watching this and you brought up Frodo and Sam's friendship, two things happened, for one, anytime I see anything from those two I immediately start crying, and the other thing was that I was reminded of a friend of mine that I found on Discord, and that friend reminds me of Sam, and I had to share that with him.

I appreciate the distinction between a favorite piece of media and something comforting. I’d add another distinction in that the piece of media I’ve seen most often isn’t something I would put in that category. I love Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and I think I’ve seen it more than any other piece of media, but that’s because it’s hilarious and I get something new out of every watch. It’s not a comfort thing for me. So, while all the ones on this list could make my list for comfort watches, I’ll give two movies and a show that fit that bill better for me: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty This movie definitely speaks to a sense of adventure, a willingness to move out from a situation where the lead is consistently the butt of other people’s jokes and where he can embody the person he daydreams about, but this is more about the beautiful visuals and music that I still play regularly on my Spotify. It’s just a vibe. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind One of my all-time favorites, this is just such a ride of a film as we watch a man work through his long-term relationship in fits and starts, moving backwards and forwards through time. It’s one of those movies where we know the destination, but there’s so much to the ride that it makes you want to experience it again and again. Whose Line is it Anyway? Easily the most rewatched one of the three for me, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’d seen every episode at least once, several more than 10 times. I love the improv. There’s just so much to enjoy about watching them work on the fly, from their breaks into fits of laughter to their most fluid banter. I love it. Miss Drew on the show, but every host has their own flair and there’s always so much to enjoy.

We have several comfort movies in common; Goofy Movie, Hook, LOTR, Homeward Bound. I also have my needful movies. What Dreams May Come if I need to ugly cry but can't. Fried Green Tomatoes is another I cry at, but it's also played when I'm stuck and need to find my strength. Similarly, The Color Purple gives hope, and Steel Magnolias reminds me life in a family, and with friends isn't perfect, but they'll get you through the hard stuff. Then, the absolute joy of A Knight's Tale and Big Fish. Loved this video and we're friends now. 😁

my favorite comfort media: The entire soundtrack of Elton John’s Dreamworks’ The Road to El Dorado. Whenever I’m in a funk or the world has got me down, I can just sing any of those songs by heart and everything feels right again. I’m not even sure exactly why I have such a personal connection to it. The 1960s underrated masterpiece that is Gay Purr-ee. I idolized Judy Garland as a child but that’s only part of it- the artwork. Featuring the beloved off-beat visual styles of Chuck Jones, literally painted against a beautiful impressionistic backdrop and set in Paris during the turn of the century- the songs, the voice acting, the breathtaking visuals, the nostalgia for a Paris of older times. If you haven’t already watched it, I won’t lie and say it’s amazing. The story is flawed and of its time for sure. Yet I’d still recommend giving it a watch.

I’ve seen a whole lot of movies, and while there have definitely been some really amazing ones, I completely agree that being a great movie doesn’t necessarily make it a comfort movie. My top comfort movies are duos that are my childhood classics. The two “National Treasure” films and the first two “Narnia” movies. Those made such a huge impact on me when I was a kid and they just bring me so much joy whenever I watch them. A movie that I will stop everything and watch is definitely “Speed.” Despite being overly cringe at times, I completely fell in love with the dynamic between Sandra and Keanu. They sold it for me, but I also just love all the action and explosions. To be honest, I absolutely love the Fast and Furious franchise and I watch 1,4,5,6,7 at least once a year. I’m a sucker for action and family and I can quote so many lines from those films. Also I almost started jumping for joy when I realized you were gonna mention “Homeward Bound”, I used to watch that and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” a lot when I was little and I ended up naming my black lab after Shadow. I’m loving your videos man, keep up the great work!!

For movies, two of the ones I keep coming back to is "The Shawshank Redemption" and "Mrs. Doubtfire". For the latter, it's one of Robin Williams's best roles for me, and I love watching a story about a father going the distance to spend time with his kids. Him dressing in drag is just the comedic cherry on top. There's so much in "Shawshank" that I love that I can't possibly fit it all here, but two things stick out: The musical score, which always brings me to tears; and the quote delivered by Morgan Freeman, "Get busy living, or get busy dying." For music, I always turn to Poets of the Fall, a Finnish band that frequently collaborates with the game studio Remedy (makers of Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Control). There are so many great songs they've done that make me feel almost all the emotions on the spectrum.

My absolute favorite comfy movie ever has to be Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland. This movie has been in my life since I can remember, the amazing sense of childlike wonder and powerful imagination of Nemo and his best friend, the flying squirrel Icarus. This is the one movie I think I've watched more than anything else, I always remember the jealousy I felt at the end of the movie because I wanted to have a cool wild adventure in my dreams just like Nemo. This movie always reminds me to never be afraid to be a dreamer and to sometimes just...Be a kid again. It is a wonderful movie, a collaborative effort of Western and Japanese animation gives it such a unique look, even the great Hayao Miyazaki worked on it for a bit but eventually left the project because it was going through a lot of problems during production but I am so incredibly grateful it worked out in the end.

I don’t know what it is about Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, but I recently played it to completion a couple weeks ago (specifically fully completed the post game alongside the base game) and I give it another play through every so often. It’s probably to sync my brain back up with earlier times, simpler times, when I had first completed the base story back in 2011. Despite the limitations of the time, the visuals and soundtrack will bring me to tears every time.

As soon as you started talking about pet movies, I was hoping you'd bring up Homeward Bound and was not disappointed!! That movie was one of my absolute favorites growing up, I must have watched it a hundred times in-between viewings of the entire Land Before Time series, and I almost never hear ANYONE talk about it. I think it's time to watch it again! I have an entire playlist on KZbin dedicated to comfort songs, but my current selection of comfort films includes Inside Out, Encanto, and most recently Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, all of which have messages that just strike at my core and make me feel like things are gonna be okay somehow even in the depths of my depression. Turning Red and The Mitchells Vs. The Machines are sort of comfort films for similar reasons as Encanto, but in a more pronounced way; those two so perfectly capture the complexity of being part of a family you feel you don't quite belong in. I've also grown strangely attached to Hamilton (to the point I literally recorded myself singing the whole thing by myself, playing every single part, ensemble and all), and another comfort musical for me is Ride the Cyclone for similar reasons as Last Wish became a comfort film. And lastly, the crowdfunded series The Chosen has been worming its way into my list of comfort media just because I've never seen a Christian show/movie that makes Jesus and the disciples feel so...real? I find myself relating to the portrayals of the disciples as deeply flawed, lost people, who all just want to feel like things are going to be okay and they can be accepted despite all their problems. It's such a beautiful series and I'm so glad it exists. Thank you for this video; I discovered you recently and have been blown away by the quality of every video I've seen!

YES! COMFORT AND GOOD FILMS CAN BE SEPERATE AND THE SAME!! I can rewatch John Wick or Knives Out because they're good movies, but I wouldn't consider them comfort films. If I had to pick a film that had both, it would be the Kung Fu Panda trilogy. There's something in watching Po's journey to be the legendary dragon warrior, and overcome battles in himself and the world, it hits all the right spots

I dont replay video games often. I want to experience as many as possible. But the game I've replayed the most as well as being my favorite game of all time is Super Mario Galaxy 2. It's short and I know the game pretty well, so I can beat it within a week. But beyond that, it's such a fun, well made, and captivating game to me. The absolute love and passion that went into every aspect of the game is admirable, and its one of the games that helped spark a passion for making games for me. It's such a great game and I fully intend on playing it multiple times more.

One of comfort movies oddly enough is battle Los Angeles. Idk why but it just satisfies an itch I have for films that show an alien invasion and not in a superhero or theatrical way. It’s a gritty realistic look into what a conflict between marines and aliens that are themselves on the ropes of extinction.

LOTR is my ultimate comfort epic. I can nap while it’s on or just stare at it like I’ve never seen it before. My personal comfort movie is Octonauts and the Caves of Sac Actun. Its a movie for a relatively obscure childrens show abotu marine biology, a show that i binged the shit out of when i was a kid. I discovered the movie about a year ago upon rewatching the series for nostalgia’s sake and fell in love with it. Its heartwarming its fun, its educational! And shockingly enough it has pretty nice representation for folks with phobia’s from ptsd. The captain revealing that he suffers from Claustrophobia as a result of an event in his childhood is a pretty significant conflict in the story. Its refreshing to see that kind of thing talked about so openly by a charachter who is seen as this fearless leader by his friends and peers- and then not looked down on or judged for that fear. And for a show directed at young kids to! If your a fan of undersea animals or cave diving or anything like that, id highly recommend watching it. Its got a wildkratts vibe if you’ve seen that one. Theres also a musical for the series that i’d also concider a comfort movie, and the songs are suprisingly good. :3

Thank you for sharing such an interesting topic and I tip my hat to you for choosing to watch the whole The Lord of the Rings in one sitting! You made me wonder about what are my comfort movies and took me quite a bit to find them, I grew up with a ton of movies and cartoons and it was a challenge. For movies absolutely my first picks are "Enemy Mine" and "The Neverending story" (which I discovered they both shared the same director only last year haha talk about coincidences). These two movies hold such an importance to me that my heart swells just thinking about them. They share an unique atmosphere, one for fantasy genre and one for sci-fi genre, and they both guided me into books. Enemy mine the movie made me cry like hell and the book made me cry even more, which was embarrassing since I was reading it almost always on the train to go to university lol If I feel the need of having a good cry I either go for "Enemy mine" or "Land before time". Don't misunderstand, I don't see crying as a bad thing, I actually do enjoy it as stress reliever or just because sometimes I feel like it, and certain movies help me out. "Aliens" has been another milestone for me, it's scary and badass and gives me such a rush of adrenaline every time I watch it. Also I have to say my mom years ago used to look exactly like Ripley just a tat shorter, same hair, same badassery. Today she just changed hair. "Dragonheart" scripted my love for dragons even more, showing Draco with a fantastic personality and a gorgeous design. A first step for me into loving character design and believable creature design. Honorable mentions: "Tremors", "Treasure planet" "Casper", "The Tale of Tillie’s Dragon", "The Lion King", "Avatar" and "Avatar: The Way of the Water", "Hook", "The Addams Family" and "The Iron Giant". I love these very much and I'll always stop doing whatever I'm doing to just sit and watch, for either enjoying and stupendous animation or just the characters having fun interacting. I'm more of a movie lady than a series one, although if there's a cartoon series my 32yo ass would absolutely sit down and watch anytime is "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh". I adore this series for how gentle, charming and for just vibing with good energy it makes me feel relaxed and entertained with the simple thought of it. If I'm searching for something fun and nostalgic I'd choose two old anime series, "Topo Gigio" from 1988 and "Peter Pan no boken". I'd say also Dragon Ball Z, but good lord I'd never be able to rewatch it despite the big impact that left on me, but it's still fun to think about characters like Piccolo and Gohan. A more recent pick is "The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance". Never been a fan of the design of the creatures, but the world they live in is absolutely gorgeous to me, I just want to sink in it, and I love the concepts and the story. Aughra best character, hands down. I'm a big nerd for old sci-fi books, sometimes fantasy too, and I assure you I have many favorites. Yet there's one in particular that is something that brings me simply joy knowing I have it. It's "Chrome" by George Nader, the only book by this author and in my opinion a very important one. Is it that amazing? I think it was ok, I read it years ago and I should read it again, but it's one if not THE first gay romance sci-fi book ever and my ace heart can only be very proud of it. It brings me comfort just looking at the title, knowing that the LGBT community has such a solid milestone. For music I can easily say metal is the genre that comforts me the most, it brings me to different lands and planets where I fantasise adventures with my own characters or just chill with them in an unexplored world. Other genres do a similar job, but metal will always be the most powerful. And last but not least, video games. "Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess", I often relate to Link for going through hell to help my dearest friends out. And "Valfaris" for ridiculous metal fun. I hope my essay here wasn't boring! xD Thank you again for your amazing work in your videos, can't wait to see your future uploads!

It's kind of interesting for comfort media because they're things I grew up with but things like Star Wars cuz my parents took me to see the originals in theaters before the prequels came out, LOTR cuz I saw the Rankin-Bass Hobbit as a kid with my parents which led to them getting me the books to taking me to see the movies in theaters, & finally Batman the Animated series because the first hero I was introduced to was Batman thanks to the 1989 movie & Batman Returns being movies at home but the animated series I sat with my dad to watch cuz he was interested in seeing how it paired against the 60s Adam West series. To me seeing these anytime takes me back to when me & my parents had a much simpler relationship & when times were simpler when we connected on more things

honestly dude i found your channel by accident of the youtube algorithm but despite that you never disappoint. i love how your videos are. also i know your seem to be a primaly movie guy. just assuming here but you have never watched anime or a anime movie. honestly would love to hear you take and opinions on some of them. tho of course this is just my suggestion. regardless of if you see this comment or even take in the idea of anime or more specifically anime moves i will watch regardless because your content is just that good. hell the only reason why i recommend anime and anime movies is because of both your love for animation/animated movies and good storytelling. as well as you said you love story with bond of friendship. MY BIGEST RECOMENDATION IS ONE PIECE MOVIES. mainly because 90% of the movies you don't need context for the most part from the show or manga to enjoy them. the main reason i think you should watch them is in every one piece media there isa one theme in all of theme that being Friendships and the idea of FOUND FAMILY. that even if your normal family sucks even if the whole world is against you TRUE FRIENDS will always be there. on top of that all of one piece has a fun vibe of seeing the main character just have random fun on this big adventure they are on. IF YOU TAKE ANYTHING AWAY FROM THIS COMENT WATCH ONE PIECE AND ANIME MOVIES IN GENRAL. TRUST ME THERE REALLY GOOD!! hell i wouldn't even ask you to make any videos on them if you didn't want to. i just recomend them becuse i feel you would have a fun time ----Sincerely your fan CripledFrog

2:11 I would say a film that fits the "great, but hard to return to," mold would be Schindler's List. One of the best movies of all time, and objectively Steven Spielberg's best movie, but one that I never want to watch again due to how grim and depressing it all is. And yeah, I agree with what you said about Jaws, it's my personal favorite of Spielberg's filmography, and I find that many of his early blockbusters (E.T., Jurassic Park) fill that comfort movie description. Also how could you forget that Hook gave us Rufio? Played by Zuko (Dante Basco).

I know that the recently released Mario movie is generally considered a solid "ok" by the majority of people (even Mario fans) and I understand that viewpoint. However... considering at the heart of all the film's fast-paced craziness is a story of two brothers who genuinely love and care about each other overcoming their own personal odds to fight together against a towering threat and ultimately succeeding... I will never not have a soft spot for that movie. You can laugh me out of the room now.

My Comfort Media is easily Dark Souls 1. There is no time in my life where I can not play this game. It always makes me happy and helps in hard times, eventough a game so much connected with death should be the opposite.

So Jaws is your most watched comfort movie? Well then. I guess this is my time to say something about it. I'm not going to deny that Jaws is a masterpiece. It is a 9/10 for me (only because the shark animatronic looks fake) and Spielberg is my favorite director. However, I don't like this movie for what it did to sharks. Of course, no one working on the movie had any intentions of this, and I am not blaming any one of them, but it gave sharks an undeserved reputation as man-eaters, and they have suffered. While less that 10 people a year die by sharks, who mistake humans as food or are curious of them, 100 million sharks are killed a year by people, either for Shark Fin Soup, sport, or out of hatred. Sharks are one of the most important organisms in the ocean, and without them, the ocean food chain would collapse. Some reefs have lost their sharks and have become dead zones because of it. For this reason, Jaws is one of my least favorite movies of all time.
