Austin - I really liked this video! It’s never too late to tell everybody that you want to tell them about your life. They may think you don’t want to talk with them because you made the video instead of telling them face-to-face. If they are people who may be uncomfortable about asking about what you have been up to, they might be relieved to hear you start telling them about your life. Good luck!

Your story resonated with me, Austin. I've been out for a little over a year now, and my family really hasn't discussed my being gay with me either. Thank you for sharing this story with us! It takes so much courage to come out. It takes so much more to share your story with others, let alone put it online where others can see.

Haha this vid was pretty all over the place, but I love that 10 seconds in you were talking about masturbation, I was absolutely not expecting that. I don't think there's anything wrong with making a KZbin vid coming out. I also don't think it's a requirement you have to sit down and tell every single person you know. The fact that your family isn't asking you about your personal life isn't necessarily because you didn't come out to them individually, it sounds like maybe they just don't want to intrude? Maybe they're not comfortable with it? Maybe it's just not a big deal to anyone? I sense a little sadness from you about it though, I hope I'm wrong. There's no rule book about coming out, everyone has a different experience. Thanks for sharing your story, it was fun to listen to and that stuff with Patrick towards the end was so cute. You two are everything goals, anytime you are together it makes people smile! Looking forward to his as well!

I love your approach! BF tag and then Mom calls, and then pushes you to call family, and you stand your ground! So strong! I do disagree though, it's not cowardly to come out this way. I think many of us have a similar experience that out families don't ask much about our coming out. I was also a bit disappointed that I didn't get much in the way of questions. I think it's the fear of the worst, and I was almost sad when it was a non-event. You're all good! Much love!

Thank you for sharing your story, I think you are very brave. I'm a straight married mom that wishes equality for all people around the world, I think we live in a time where genders and labels should not matter to anybody anymore, respect is the key for a better world. If you don't do harm to anyone, no one should care whether you like guys, girls, both or none. Just be happy with who you are, I'm pretty sure you are 💕

Great video. Love your eyes, amazing. Found your channel from The Coyle Twins. I never even thought about being gay until I fell instantly in love with one guy at 15 (he was 17). I still thought I liked girls and just him. Coming out was easy. Mum came into my room to change the towels in the bathroom and found me sleeping in bed with my boyfriend (who was living with us as an international student) and all she said was 'do I need to change the sheets on both of your beds now or just this one twice as often?'. I chose the latter. And that was it. All my Dad said was 'so does your boyfriend like fishing?' (because I don't), I said no and he said bugger (because he wanted someone to go fishing with, now they go fishing). It turns out he likes fishing, ewwww.

Great video, humerous, honest and straight forward with just enough detail to make it relatable without being ...err .. too much, haha. I came out much later in life but your advice is very sound. I think possibly ruling people out of your life if they have a problem with the gay thing may not often be neccessary, but having it in your armour of certainty about your identity may be a useful stance of last resort which one can and should be prepared to use in dire circumstances. Agree very much with being safe emotionally and financially and taking things in your own time. it is a head thing about being absolutely sure of yourself and banishing any shame or guilt. Don;t be in a rush to get into a relationship. There are lots of guys who might be right, take your time choosing ,,, or not, lots of valid ways to live a life nowadays. Good fortune, Austin. Some guy is going to be very lucky to have you love them one day

Last Saturday i watched Love simon with 2 of my older sisters and my older brother and i loved it so much but afterwards at home i was thinking how the main character is going to have a great life and has love and nobody is against him that matters so it made me quite sad and my family noticed,i was quite sad to know my mum wouldn’t accept me, the next morning I was so sad i was crying and my mum was asking me why i was sad and she was getting quite worried so I eventually gathered up the courage to tell her im gay. She still loves me but she doesn’t agree with it because of religion and stuff so she isn’t letting me be with a guy and she thinks i can turn straight with prayer and stuff but i know who i am and now i am just kind of sad, maybe someday if i find a great guy then he can make me forget that there are close people who don’t accept me.(i have told my brother and he is more on the “i still see you as i always have” side and i still have 4 sisters and a dad to tell when i’m ready, wish me luck) Update: i have told two sisters and they love and accept me for who i am and we just have a chat if I’m feeling a little down.(This would probably be because my mum would do something insensitive like put on a show about gays getting stoned, hopefully she can be a bit more “considerate”)

Just one question: how did your mom see the boyfriend tag so fast? Was she looking, at that moment for videos of you or did she stumble across it looking for boyfriends tags or what? Is she always on KZbin looking at videos? Just curious on how she came across the video and how she came across it so fast.

Actually I was making some KZbin videos around that time and it just so happened that she was watching one of my videos and saw the boyfriend tag in the suggested videos.

Not the switching of hands 🤣 I feel you on the desperation. My desperation led me to sleep with a few girls and one got pregnant, she decided to have an abortion and I came out. I came out to my parents about 5 more years later. I also was a military brat so I had to come out 3 times because we kept moving. Ugh. But by the 3rd time I just introduced myself to the class with my name and that I was gay. Lol I think the shock value and me just being confident in it kind of kept me from getting bullied like the previous times.

The most accurate depiction of coming out I have ever seen portrayed was Season 3 of Skam. It was guided by interviews with young people and a gay mental health professional. It's a Norwegian show you can find it subbed on Dailymotion. www.dailymotion.com/shametv/videos They are labeled oddly 1.10 is the first episode of season 3. You will probably cry.

Just to play a bit of a "devil's advocate" here, Austin, since you say that you put up a bit of a wall, and that you regret being too impersonal with some of your family, I'd suggest that if you want them to feel comfortable talking to you, it might not be a bad idea to sit down with them, one-on-one, and tell them what you've said here. Let them know that you'd welcome their questions and interest in your life. I may well be that they do have questions but are nervous about asking you...put them at ease. Great advice and a great story!

I'm 18 and I've reached a point where I've told heaps of people I'm gay but I haven't told others who I think are going to react negatively. I've told my parents and friends, but my extended (Christian) family I'm putting off. My parents are christian too, and my dad is quite liberal and has no problem with my sexuality, whereas my mum is a bit awkward about it but not outright homophobic. I consider myself pretty lucky to have that kind of acceptance cause I know its a lot worse for a lot of people, but I'm still putting off having that difficult conversation with my extended family. So that's where I'm at in terms of coming out, and I'm about to move away for university and I'm ready to be proud of who I am in a new city. Any advice on telling your extended christian family where there's bound to be a range of reactions from completely unaccepting to completely accepting???

Hey guys, unfortunately I don't relate all that well to this because my family was mostly ok with it when I came out but it's scary no matter what your situation is. The truth is be who you are and you'll be happy. I understand not wanting to lose you family but you may also come to the realization that in this community we are your family. Family isn't just those who are blood related but for many LGBT people it's those we choose because our families don't understand. But to lie and deny who you are really takes a toll and there will come a time when you just can't keep it up anymore because it's so exhausting. I just started being g fully out at work a few years ago. Coming out never ends you just get more comfortable with it. Much love 💓💓💓
@zrp8y236 жыл бұрын
I think I am correct in saying that the guy 2000 years ago never said it is wrong. The Old Testament is where it is condemned. However, most people are ignorant of Biblical history and don't know that homosexuality in those times was prostitution. That is what they were condemning. No mention is made of two people of the same sex having a loving, committed relationship. The guy 2000 years ago would have been accepting of this type of homosexuality because love is love and love is what he preached. There is nothing wrong or broken with someone who is homosexual. They are perfectly normal as God made them and those who judge and condemn them will face a greater judgment for judging them. Your extended family may surprise you when they find out and be accepting. Many people who are homophobic do change once they meet and get to know gay people and come to understand they are no different than they are. I wish you the best of luck when you do tell them.
