ITAR does specify some things against body armor, but it specifies specific grades of modern body armor, so even with that, an 80 year old helmet which is only as effective as a bike helmet shouldn't be restricted

Count yourself lucky for never running into this, it's ridiculous. Which impression did you see? I'm getting to the point where I can't even keep track 😂 I'm not entirely sure how much more there is I can do, every interaction is them saying they can't do anything whilst I provide info to what they say. Perhaps there's more I could do, but there so hell bent on not helping, that it's just too straining. I bet it'll get opened buy some agent, see nothings illegal, and someone will love their new free helmet.

There are a few reasons, firstly there's never usually dilemmas like this, things generally go pretty smooth, secondly, if I can afford to buy original items to collect, I jump on the opportunity, as much as I like to reenact, I've very much been enjoying getting in collecting on the small level in which I have. Form wise, the repros are a wee bit off in places, they seem a little more boaty than originals, despite them being off in certain regards, I don't think they're that bad. In the future I do plan on getting a repro for if I should use my Wolseley topped kits for any sort of more strenuous use, for lighter use, I have no problem with the originals. Also, the repros usually come with no puggarees which makes life an absolute pain, because in military service they always had a puggaree.

I mean, it's not a helmet, it's a hat that's sometimes called a helmet. This carousel of nonsense is only happening due to somebody, or even just a program, seeing the word "helmet" in a military context and immedicable flag it as needing an arms export requirement. You could call them up on this or send a lawyer if it's really valuable

It is a military helmet, and as such is PPE. I’m afraid they are well in their rights to do this. And by the way this is entirely the fault of the US I’m British and I order actual military items, reloading equipment, body armour, ballistic helmets, firearm related items from mainland Europe and they are marked as military but they always get through, sometimes I have to talk with customs agents but there is never a problem

The issue stems from eBay, not a government entity, as if it were, a talk with customs would easily have been in order. Even so, it does not matter, helmets do not fall under ITAR, so the point is mute. The US has nothing to do with it, because it never reached an entity of the country.
