Hot tip from a fellow 996 Turbo owner that also applies to 997: You want to clean your radiators and AC condensers when you have it already in such a disassembled state. There is visibly a lot of stuff hanging in there and they can rust and start leaking. Not so cheap to replace then... Just take off the plastic housing around it and you will see what I mean because the dirt will come flying. Also just installed a mesh behind the main air intakes/bumper inside to avoid leaves and so on to fly in there. cheap and effective fix, otherwise you want to disassemble and clean regularly.

I'm planning on a good cleaning soon

For sure the mesh is very important to have the middle one. My brother has a 996 regular 911 and replaced the radiators in front, and the middle one got hit by a stone and is leaking and needs to be replaced again. It's crazy they have nothing there to protect the radiator...

Black seat belts are fine. Keep it classy. Most track 996/997 turbos have the coolant lines pinned already, some tracks wont allow these cars to race without it done as it poses a huge safety concern if these pop on the track. Love your content as always brother

If you haven’t done it yet, do the GT2 clutch conversion since the motor and transmission are out. I forget the part numbers, but they are cheap. It’s a clutch cable, slave, fork, and release spring under the pedal. It eliminates the clutch assist setup on the car also requiring the power steering pump to have that line blocked off. Sounds like a lot but it’s not that bad and totally worth it. It does require tapping the transmission case as the gt2 mounts on the other side from the 997t setup. AIM performance tapped my transmission for the job. Coming along buddy.

Check out Justin at the fabrication series for really good tig content. I am sure that you are happy about the drilling already being done, but now you are primed and ready for the 996 when that time comes. As for seatbelts, I like color matched. I don't know your exact type. It's more expensive then i thought. But still i would check the wear on the clutch especially if it was a track car! 44k miles for a car like this is not nothing. Plates can have much more waer then you think. And when it's apart like it is now it costs you maybe a little over 1 hour to check to undo the bolts and put them back. This is in no way a knock on Matt, but a major point of this channel (and there are other great ones similar) is that this stuff is *not* difficult. and you don't have to be some sort of savant to work on your own car. Diagnosis requires some knowledge *or research*, but 90% of working on cars is turning a ratchet or wrench. Access can be tight, sequences are important, and jobs can be time-consuming, but the techniques are simple. Like eating an elephant, take it one bite at a time. I have to say though--doing a complete chassis swap is a massive amount of work and I'm amazed at Matt's pace.

Chalk Grey belts 100%. Red calipers are a stock thing so I'm cool with that, but maybe the Terracotta colored calipers would be cool. To me old school red calipers used to mean turbo so I still think they're cool. Chalk grey seat belts are a great idea.

Technically, red meant "S".

@@plus790 Technically "S" can be red or silver. I'm referring to the first red calipers offered on a 911 by Porsche, which was on a 1993 964 turbo. Called Big Red Brake calipers. Look it up....

Red calipers now mean sport brake package where yellow calipers are the pccb package. On hybrids I believe there are green calipers.
@billwoods9534
@billwoods9534 Жыл бұрын
@@sutherlacd27 yes I'm fully aware of that. I actually already had a conversation with someone about the red calipers and how they were originally only on the 964 911 Turbo. That's what I referring to when I said "old school" because this car is over 10 years old. I have a 2010 997.2 GT3 with PCCB's and yellow belts. But back to the calipers, that terracotta might be kind of cool because of his interior color, and then make the belts Chalk Grey. But since its an analog car and a little old staying old-school red wouldn't be a bad move.

@@billwoods9534 I am so torn on what brakes I want on my 997.1 turbo. I have left the sport brakes on because when doing track days it's actually affordable to replace the rotors after several sessions. But my car is speed yellow with yellow belts and yellow gauges and I do more street driving than track days so swapping to the pccb setup would be nice as well. I just struggle with justifying swapping to the pccb setup when replacing the rotors after several track sessions costs an insane amount of money

Chalk grey belts I think will look good against the interior.

You better pin the camshafts to avoid camshaft hub slip. They spin in the pressed-in housing section=camshaft deviation....etc, big job once the engine in the car, can cause very poor engine operation and other damages. Common issue on these engines. I would do the tensioners, cam sprockets and inspect the head....etc
@matt13ross
@matt13ross Жыл бұрын
Is there a way to check if that's done?
@desmomotodesmomoto2033
@desmomotodesmomoto2033 Жыл бұрын
@@matt13ross You have to pull out the cams, remove the sprocket housing and the connector piece to see the pressed-in housing. There is a good video about it, if you search Camshaft Deviation, in Top Auto Nick channel. Since this was a race engine, they should have done it, but who knows.

I have a 997 Turbo, and my view is I’ll have it done if they ever spin. It’s not a catastrophic failure, so I’m willing to roll the dice. Also doesn’t seem as common as the internet would have you believe.

Hi, been following the build and really enjoying it. I have a 2010 C2S and looking to put some new wheels on it. I live in the Caribbean so wheel shops with options for a 997 are limited.. I am looking at getting some made for me.. can you tell me what size front wheels and offset you have on yours? The rears i know have a good bit of clearance but the fronts for the videos look like they are at least a 10” rim.. maybe I’m mistaken… but if you can tell the the size and offset it OU would be of great help

Before putting the engine in upgrade the turbo intake tubes with the engine out. It's cheap and easy with the engine out. It's a pain with the engine in.
