Big projects command an investment; of time, mental capital, physical effort and most of all, emotional currency. But with these monumental tasks comes the potential for great reward. This untitled painting by an unknown artist of Bacchus will require just a bit of everything we do in the studio, and while perhaps not the most complicated project we've encountered, it will demand, and demand, and demand once again. The question is will it be worth it?

He has done asmr-style videos without any commentary at all, and while they also are a treat to watch, his commentary of the piece or his technique (why he does what he does and his perspective from all his years in this line of work) is what makes it even more interesting to watch! He doesn’t *need* to comment on his work, but the fact that he does and we can take part in his thought process is what makes his videos so good :) he is a master of his craft - but we are not

Thanks for telling us how many work hours go into retouching a painting like this. Knowing intellectually the amount of time it takes to conserve an artwork and actually being _told_ the amount really helps put into perspective what gets edited out of the videos; days and weeks of treatments and work we get to watch condensed down to minutes. I love your channel. My Aunt gave me a painting before she passed away. It’s been in the family for a couple of generations. She had it restored. It had a small tear in the canvas. Since receiving the painting, the restoration just feels off. Everything is too perfect. So the other day I turned off the lights and shined a UV light on it. 50% of the painting has been over painted in the process of conserving it. Thanks to you, I learned about looking for this problem.

A little movie popped into my mind as you reviewed your work upon completion. It began with the artist looking over the deteriorated painting with heartbroken sadness in his/her eyes. He/she watched from the sidelines as you restored this labor of love . The heartbreak was gradually replaced with joy as the restoration progressed. Looking over your shoulder at the culmination of your labor of love, the artist shed tears of joy knowing this creation was not lost to the ravages of time. There was a moment of triumph for you both as you stood side by side with admiration for each other. The end.
