As someone in their 40s who went back and forth on embracing vs. not -- I think the biggest problem probably that we face is actually embracing and going with TRUE natural. Your routine takes very long for many reasons, and the first and foremost is that your hair is cut for having a straight hairstyle and not by a professional who specializes in curly cuts. With the right curly cut for your hair, it doesn't have to take so long to style. You have very pretty hair and nice curl. The right cut would just enhance what you already have and make it much much easier -- but you would have to WANT that. The reason it is so hard right now is that you are working against your natural hair. If you worked with it, with the right cut, you could literally wash it, put some optional product in, and let it air dry to perfection, and for you it would be 100x easier than most of us because unlike most of us you don't have any massive visible difficult cowlicks that make styling look odd or difficult. The right stylist could give you a lot of very adorable options and make it easy. With the right curly cut I've been able to go on vacation and have ALL of my styling tools break and still have beautiful easy hair - just wash, comb out knots and just leave for the day. It looked fine and was healthier than ever. Ever since I met a curly cut specialist I've never gone back to straightening my hair. It is much much easier and here's the thing -- people usually want what they cannot have. I get compliments a lot on my curly hair, so now that I have made it easy and not a chore, my life is much better. Yes it looks a bit shorter at first, but if you want you can grow it out - it's up to you. But sometimes it is nice to have shorter hair too. Unlike with me, I think that you would be able to look good with both (since I lost a lot of hair during covid) -- but I think if my hair can look good curly after covid at my age, you will have NO problem.

Woah that is a lot you wrote! Thank you. I really appreciate your advice. I used to wear my hair completely natural (no products) and shoulder length when I was 12, so I understand what you mean, and it also looked just fine. I guess on my part there's still a lot of work to be done on the part with embracing my curly hair, and for when that happens, I'll keep in mind to look for a curly hair stylist when I'm ready. @@mira_2.005 Well your video popped up and I've been watching women older than me, my age, and younger of all races and ethnicities being told that their natural beauty isn't okay, and that they need to put in hours of work to "fix it". I think that people should be able to look however they want if it makes them happy, but whenever I see someone who might feel okay with their natural beauty, I like to encourage it, because especially for women we struggle too much both being critiqued and internalizing that. You clearly work very hard but also have some great natural base to work with -- so I guess I just hope that whatever you do that it is for your happiness, not on messages saying how you are is not right. Anyone's natural beauty can be beautiful. Anyone can choose to play and be beautiful. But no one should have to feel like they are exhausting themselves just to feel "okay" - I hope that makes sense? You have a lovely video, and I hope whatever you choose that you are happy doing it :)
