Mount the planer to a piece of 3/4" Birch plywood and then you can center the weight over the main support track....just a thought.

But this then means the whole thing is another 3/4” higher. I did that very thing when I attempted this, but using my dewalt job saw. An idea I shortly scrapped, the added height, the stand alone was itself too high, mostly for in/out feed requirements.
@larrys639

@@STV-H4H I agree....the whole setup is too high- If it were me, I would cut about 6"- 8" off the bottom of the legs and pop the feet back on - I dont want a planer 3' off the ground. Richard just wants to utilize the stands he has- I would want to as well!

Add a piece of 3/4" plywood under the planer, then screw the brackets to the Ply... then you can center the load over the base, and it would raise it up a bit to maybe work with your work supports

I added a piece of 5/8 cdx on the bottom of mine using the bolt holes for mounting to a bench. I did that to help protect the aluminum base from cracking / chipping. The plywood edge extends out beyond the base and is rounded over with a router. I'm going to implement this idea, but mount those brackets to my plywood base.

i'd add a hollow round bar to the inside of the clamp where the bolt passes through so you can tighten it and not have any chance of the clamp crushing in, this could happen on a very small scale with vibration causing the nut to loosen, also where the nut is you could add a 45 degree bracket to go to the 45 degree plate section where the lifting handles are, 100% wobble free then.

That planer is pretty heavy, I used to keep mine tucked away under a shelf in the shop. Then age caught up a bit and I put it on a wheeled mobile base I built where I don't have to lift it anymore. I don't think having something that heavy off center is a great idea. The people saying to use plywood have the right idea. My advice would be, stay young and invincible, then you can do whatever you want:)

I mounted my DW735 to a Bosch Gravity Rise miter saw cart/stand. I mounted a plywood panel to the brackets, then screwed the planer down to the plywood. Hasn't failed me, and it's been about 6 years. You might want to consider that, so that you can better center the miters weight over the beam, rather than cantilevering over.

The track tubes will work, you just need to turn them sideways and trim the height of the bracket you tighten the knob down on . But if you mount the planer to a piece of finished plywood like Larry S mentioned in his comment you probably wont have to since it would sit 3/4" higher.

You should buy the DEWALT DWX726 to just roll it around. At 92lbs this is not something to be played with. Set it and forget it. There's also a few nicer stands with rolling support, in fact you can add them to your stand if you wanted to, but some come with them.

It might help if you flipped the brackets around, so the weight of the motor was overtop of the stand, rather than hanging off the other side! I've had to modify all my tools, some what, they all live on mobile bases now. When you work in a single car garage, mobility is key!

That is exactly what I thought. Based on the Dewalt Miter saw instructions - the way you are oriented to the machine then he put these on backwards. Its meant to reach over the machine and crab the black handles. They arent supposed to be towards your body based on the way your grab them to release. I am about to try that now. I was looking through the comments to see who noticed that then who has tested it. If not, I will.

I like Larry’s S’s idea of mounting it first to a piece of wood. If not then put a piece of wood in the hollow end of the Dewalt mount. That way you’ll have contact points through the entire mount which will be much stronger have it currently.

Can you turn the track tubes sideways, so they are parallel to the ground? Looks like there is a bolt that goes through the center of it, so you’d need to drill a hole through it, but that might make it low enough!

Nice try, it looks like it is cantilevered more opposite the elevation crank/wheel. Being offset like that I would be worried that it could tip over at some point. Putting extra stress on your mounting brackets. My suggestion would be to add a mounting plate so that the planner is centered over your tool stand. Greg

I'd be very concerned with mounting that much in a cantilever position and only supported by small bolts through the base webbing of the cast pot aluminum. I would devise a method of centering the machine on the stand to distribute the weight more evenly. The pot aluminum webbing (in my opinion) is not that terribly strong for lateral stress and having countersunk the holes to accommodate the stove bolts, further weakened it in those spots more. With moving the machine on and off and the constant vibration while operating it may create cracks and eventual failure. Maybe as Aaron below has said, mount the brackets on some 3/4" ply. I would then drill blind holes with a forstner bit the size of the rubber feet of the planer so itcan sit centered on the stand. Just a thought.

You know Dewalt makes a portable table saw stand right? The saw mounts with those same quick release brackets, but it breaks down so compact that I never even remove it. I see no reason why the planer couldn’t be attached to that stand, then just use a sawhorse for an outfeed support. You don’t need support on both sides if all you’re doing is running trim boards through to skim off the primer or paint. Probably the same amount of time to set up but far more secure for that planer. And you’ll be glad it’s on wheels if you need to leave site for a quick errand or get caught in a pop-up shower and need to yank everything into the garage

Richard, I appreciate your ingenuity; however, the planner is designed as a balanced load machine over the four contact points. By cantilevering the load as the brackets do, you create an unbalanced load where the torque is being supported by the rear locking mechanisms or two points of load bearing. Given the excessive vibration produced by the planner, it is set for failure. Proceed with caution-stay safe.
