This week Trena replaces a table track and makes a new walnut leaf. She adds an antique look with a textured hand-buffed finish.
Thanks for watching. If you enjoy my video and would like to say thanks you can now buy me a coffee! This will just help me to be supported while I continue to make these videos for everyone to enjoy. Cheers to all my wonderful subscribers! www.buymeacoffee.com/JohnsFur...

The fact that he brought it back to you to get it added on to speak loudly of the Quality of your work. And that finish, with the memory of your dad doing it, brought tears to my eyes. I hope the customer watches this video and the one on the original work so they can appreciate what it took to fix up their table. And you really should be doing museum piece restoration. You have encyclopedias' worth of knowledge in your head.

Years ago, when I did repairs in the home, I always carried a few leaf alignment pins in my toolbox. When a customer impressed me with a fix of their own or a new way of doing something, I would award them "The highly coveted, yet rarely awarded Wooden Bullet Award" and gave them one of the pins! I always thought that sharing a laugh with a customer was a great way to have them remember you. Oh, and when I had to match a profile, I used an old card scraper held up to the profile I had to match, then cut, filed and sharpened the shape. I cut away most of the wood with a chisel, just as you did, then finished it off with my new scraper.

I'm a luthier and from time to time I have to do custom shapes such as replacing finger boards. My method of copying shapes is to use a card scraper from lee valley, not the thin ones. I trace the shapes onto the card scraper and using a dremiel tool, cut out the shape I want. I then put an angle on one side (very carefully) and add a burr. Using chisels, I bring it down to size, using the scraper as a template and the end job is to use the scraper as a scraper to finish the final shape. Hope you can understand my explanation. As a former Windsor resident keep up the good work. (I hope you have air conditioning in your shop).

Just today I was at an exhibit about wood, its importance in the technological human evolution, the innumerable uses and applications how the resource is in danger now... one of the parts had lots of different types of wood, classified by continent, you could touch them, smell them... I've got to see craftmanship with wood and other parts of trees from thousands years ago and very modern ones. It made me think a lot and today watching this video I have more present than ever the relevance of conservation of materials, techniques... It was an amazing job on a beautiful table that can last for years and years

Trena is amazing. Your hand cut leaf looks better than the two originals. You are an artist with the finish. Old tables have character but are not very robust. New manufactured tables are robust but without character, well maybe after 50 years of use they may gain character.

Since I only found your channel recently, I watch one or two older videos after each new one. This was the one that caught my eye. The title worked - grabbed my attention - and I was glad to see it was for a happier reason than I originally thought. I knew it wouldn't be a case of dissatisfaction, but I was afraid some sort of major catastrophe had befallen a piece you'd worked on and they were bringing broken bits to use to reconstruct! Such a precision fit and excellent carving skills made this one a fun watch. But it was the finish that did it for me! Absolutely gorgeous! Nothing beats a hand-rubbed finish for me - nothing compares to the soft gleam. ❤ What a fantastic job! Now, of course, I'm off to watch the original video since, judging by the table, it's going to be right up my alley, style-wise. I enjoy watching all styles and know that every style is beautiful in the right setting, but we all have our favorites. 😊
