Wow what a mess. Thanks for the video Scotty. I made the mistake of buying my last vehicle at night with a warmed up engine. It looked great in the dark and the price was really right. The next morning it sounded like crap and I opened the hood and noticed what I didn't see the night before. There was evidence of an exploded radiator and the overheat had clearly damaged the alignment of the 24 valves. Luckily it's a 2008 Lexus RX 350 and after adding Lucas upper cylinder lubricant to the first 10 fill ups it drives and sounds like a champ for 3 years now. Best car I ever bought.

My wife is still driving her 2006 Toyota 4 Runner. It has 310+K miles on it, and it runs like a swiss watch. Burns zero oil, and will run 85 mph all day long. (4L engine) Other than a few door dings from idiots in the parking lots, the bodywork is perfect. I just put on new OEM leather seat covers on the drivers seat because the leather was starting to show wear. Oil & fliters changed every 5K miles. I do all the maintenance and I put and taught her how to run the scan tool she keeps in the glove box. I had the entire front end on it last year because the balljoints were starting to get loose. She checks it every quarter ir if it starts running weired. I've replaced the radiator, injectors/ plugs, headlights and other wearable stuff and it looks like a new car. She pays to have it washed and waxed every month. We live in Texas! Just did the brakes and rear end seals and bearings last summer. We plan on driving it another 200K as long as it doesn't give us any issues. We are in our early 70's after all. My vehicle is a 2000 Dodge TD Ram with all the love and care it deserves too! Our friends can't believe our vehicles are as old as they are. Especially when they ride in them. You gotta spend money on them if you want them to last. Other than just getting 19 mpg, they are great vehicles......

As I've said many times & I don't want to hear any excuses why this happened either, but after 2008, Honda & Toyota's quality, while still fantastic, aren't any better than Hyundai's & after 2011, Kia's as well & this proves it, as if my own experiences didn't already.

Hyundai and Kia still have engines that blow up. My own experience
@JustinPennito Жыл бұрын
@@epariesbaby85 ah, let the biased comments commence. Guess what? Honda's, 2016+, are blowing up too & much sooner at that, but no one's ready to talk about that & no, I'm not talking about airbags either! Most Hyundai engines that are having that issue, happens after 100,000 miles, hence why the recall took so long to begin with & just as Honda does, Hyundai makes it right & not only replaces them with new engines, without the defect, but also includes lifetime warranties with them, in my experience. No one's also ever ready to talk about the fact that Honda actually has more recalls than Hyundai & the fact that Toyota's accelerator pad recall from 2010ish, was the most catastrophic recall in history, that for some reason, was swept under the rug not long after, when GM's ignition switch recall became all the rage, even though it was nowhere near as catastrophic as Toyota's or even Honda's airbags, oh but that's right, that was Takata's fault & Takata's fault only, we can't possibly hold Honda accountable for that, even though they've had many other recalls besides that.

Oh Guess what they are still coming out in 22 and 23 stating to park your new vehicle outside because the engine will catch fire…Back to my RAV4 I go 🙄. No, no auto maker is perfect but you won’t catch me in that Korean crap again. Btw Honda’s are ugly and overpriced. I never understood how to take it to a mechanic when you are buying a used car? Do you tell the person you are buying it from that you'll take it to a mechanic and they just give you the car before buying it? Do you and the person you are buying it from go together to the mechanic one day? How do you do that if you are buying it from a dealership? Do they allow customers to take vehicles before purchasing it to a mechanic? Wouldn't people just steal the vehicle?
@revhappyrs2k Жыл бұрын
You ask a mechanic, a trustworthy one to come ride with you when you're going to look at a car you're very interested in. It's good to ask beforehand if they'll be willing to do that for you. Most independent ones will. Obviously, you pay them for their service, usually cost something like what a diagnostic fee would cost. Or if the mechanic can't leave his shop, tell the owner of the car that you'll buy it but have to take it to the shop first to have the mechanic look at it. Obviously schedule it with the shop and tell the car owner beforehand to see if he's okay. I personally wouldn't mind, it usually means my car is going to a good home
@richsweeney1115 Жыл бұрын
Why not just learn how to work on cars and learn how they work...and bring a scan tool....and, to answer your question, I'd imagine you show the people your license so they know who you are if you bring the car to a mechanic....or have someone who knows about cars come with you to check It out , or ask the owner to go to the mechanic with you

I never buy anything that has been wrecked. And I see numerous cars on CarGurus that say .... never wrecked....and they have obvious body damage. This guy's Toyota was likely totaled at some time in the past, salvaged and really half axxed repaired. His best move, if he wants to keep it, is to find another Sequioa with high miles and swap his good motor and transmission into it and just use this truck for parts. He's looking at a complete disassembly and brand-new wiring harness just to get this truck reliable again. That's thousands of dollars and many hours of very expensive work. And, depending on who does the work might fix nothing. Thanks for pointing out the engine computer reader not communicating with the ECU. It's clear to me, I need to buy a new ECU reader (basic good ones can be had cheap, as Scotty has pointed out.) so I can check any car I want to buy first now. Why take the chance?

when Scotty opened the hood, I immediately noticed that more than a couple of repairs and mods were done which were purposely not completed. The wire at 2:00 made me laugh and scared at the same time. It was a mess, and Seq owner should have a mech always look into the car before buying. It's SOP if you're not a gear head as Scotty millions of times preached. It's not Toyota's fault, it's driver dude for not being diligent enough to research and know the car's history and Scotty mentioned of numerous owners. Like marrying a girl who's been "around".
