If a conservatorship order is made for your dad, he can be declared "financially incompetent" and won't be able to sell the house without approval of the conservator and the court. Also because of the "interesting services" your father is using, your mom should sue for compensation. I always considered it weird that you can be sued in Japan if you are caught cheating by your partner. The services your dad uses fall into the same category as far as I'm concerned. Take care!

That's horrible and I'm sorry to hear about all this. I'm not a lawyer, so please take my advice with a grain of salt: He is being enabled. Most lawyers try to draw things out for decades and make situations more complicated than they need to be, because that is pretty much the only way they know how to make money. So, you will need to find a non-traditional lawyer who works fast and thinks outside of the box. Your dad needs to be declared incompetent, declare bankruptcy and become a dependent to your Mom or someone else as part of a divorce settlement, so that he is unable to make transactions on his own. Regardless, he should not ever know how much money his family members have because he will attempt to drain that money the first chance he gets. Addicts are unreasonable. If he cannot be declared incompetent, then the lawyer will have to build a case around him being financially and emotionally abusive to his family, so that there can be a counter suit or have him locked up in jail or a mental institution if possible (would need a lot of evidence for this). A last resort would be to hire private detectives to unlawfully arrest him in their own ways to send him a strong message that he is no longer the boss and he can longer hurt anyone ever again. Some of the worst people in society are those who are not technically criminals, but take advantage of people and know how to work the system, so they don't go to jail.
