Dear Americans. The thing about Japan not having an “Individuality” or “I am me and you are you” despite being “in a family tree” is actually very normal throughout most asian countries. This also connects to how we dont get kicked out of the house by the time we turned 18 because being around or/and close to your biological family is very much a “common sense” thing in most asian cultures. I mean in a sense, this is actually a common sense idk why yall have to question about this. It seems that Japan does have "reverse mortgage loans". Basically if a house is paid off, or has enough "equity", meaning some of the mortgage is paid off, then your dad can get a "loan" of money for that value. So you should be aware that he may try to get that type of loan to get a hold of more money quickly and then the house he owns he can still pretend he owns when really he owes all the money on it. The other possibility is that he is listing the house to make it look more valuable to someone he will trick into renting a room etc... Either way, hope you are being careful that any money and any assets of the family your dad will continue trying to get a hold of. It's best you keep everything in your name and then pay for things directly for your mom that she needs / wants until this gets more under control.
