Your dad was born 1 year before my oldest brother . Good memories of your dads car . Love Dodge an Plymonth cars in that area . We had a 38 Dodge 48 Plymouth. An a 55 Plymouth back then.💯👍🏻🇦🇺

Studebaker International will have everything you need to restore the Starlight Coupe. The Studebaker inline 6 is really good engine.

Best case, I can find someone's complete running one that's been pulled out for a street rod. I just don't have the fortitude or interest to rebuild an engine at this point. The one we have is far from complete, and pretty crusty

Please spend as much time as you can with your father. I'm a year younger than him but my parents gone now for a long while born in 13 and 21, dad and mom were not of good health more so, I am in terrible health so its dear to me.... nice rigs

My dad was born in 1940 . He served in the U.S. Navy & married my mom a year before he got out ... When he got out , they moved to Wichita where I was born.. He had been out just 2 months when he got a call in the middle of the night to report for duty at 6 a.m. My dads older brother by 2 yrs had been out of the Navy about 18 months & he also got the call ... Neither knew the other had been called up until they met at the airport ... They flew them & many others to Norfolk Va where they were given uniforms & told they were going war .. This was the Cuban missile crisis .. My dad & his brother had boarded a destroyer & headed for Cuba when they were told to turn back ... When my dad got home , my mother took a picture of him holding me on his lap . He's 83 now & I have the framed picture on my mantle ... My dad & uncle still talk about the event... My dad was a 1st class petty officer & my uncle was too... To this day they wonder why they were called up 10 minutes apart in the middle of the night & told to report 4 hours later.. My dad said he was properly scared & he & my uncle both wondered if they would ever see their families again . I really didnt understand much about the incident until I watched a documentary on the Cuban missile crisis.. Folks today dont have a clue how close we came to an all out nuclear war with Russia ... Had the Russians not agreed to remove the missiles in Cuba , we were just hours from WW3... After nearly 60 yrs , it seems we're in a situation with the same country ... I remember the school drills & the nuclear shelters in case we were attacked . Now Putin is threatening the world with nuclear war . Nobody wins in that kind of war . One bomb can level NYC & and a 50 mile radius...

You are on the right track with your desires of memories with your dad and his car. Did the same. I'm same age as your dad, my dad's car was a 1959 Opel Olympian wagon that he bought new from dealer he worked at after retiring from selling out his body shop.

Great video, and great goals. My father was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2020, and I was privileged to be able to spend the next 18 months with him, very good times which I can now look back on with no regrets. Time just slips away without us realising

Like your videos very much, I was born in Nebraska in 50, so I grew up and loved the cars of the 30s through the 70s. Sometimes life gets in the way of the things we should or want to get done. Keep doing what makes you happy and I'm sure your dad is good with that.

I know they still made the dual wheel mounts in 1941. My late father in law had a 41 caddy Fleetwood with dual mounts.

That Edsel looks like an easy and quick fix and run and drive.

Just pick one of those cars and get it on the road in the spring. That Edsel looks real nice and would not take much to get running. Just clean fuel system, fresh oil and get brakes checked out and its back on the road. I have a 59 Edsel just like that with that 6 Cyl and 2 speed auto. It is not a fast car but before you know it you are going 60 mph. A lot of fun to drive and people always check it out wherever you go. It will put a smile on your dads face and yours!

Studebaker did make an overhead valve 6 towards the end of their run. 63 62 maybe? I had one in a '51 C cab truck, ran great! Also, the Commander 6 probably will fit in that Starlight. It's a lot bigger than the Champ, but still a flathead. I dig your posts!

There was that one black dual wheel Buick in park city, if you remember!

Yes, that one was a 1937 or 38. It was bid to $10,000 but I think had a higher reserve. Earlier 30s sidemount cars are more common, but it was definitely going away by the late 30s. When 1940 came along it was a vestigial tail of the past!

Don't wait on getting the car going for your dad. Life is short and he will be gone before you know it. I built my 52 Bel-Air hardtop to take my mother for a drive because my father died suddenly and my mother got cancer. Never got the chance. Get it done. Don't wait. The memory will be worth it for your father and yourself.
