@@michaelboldin9461 you could get them used to having some independent play/alone time whilst you are home? Can you work in another room for an hour, or smaller increments so they can get used to you being away? It's what we do here! @BirdNerdSophie3 жыл бұрын

Great video! So many little tips throughout. It would be interesting to see how you offer bathing opportunities (ie what size dish/bowl, water temp, where you place it) as I can’t get my kakiriki to bathe anywhere other than in her drinking water and the bowl is too small really!
@BirdNerdSophie3 жыл бұрын
Usually I use room temperature water! The cockatiels prefer the spray bottle, Pickles washes in her water bowl, Scampi will wash under the tap in the water water or the next size up, and Olive washes under the tap in another bowl that’s a similar size! Have you seen my video on bathing birds? 😊

They’re so sweet, what are your thoughts on the bird tricks seasonal feeding system? They seem fairly critical of other foods and claim there food is really the only truly balanced diet for parrots
@kelishacorridon18593 жыл бұрын
I love their seasonal feeding system been using it for a year now with my little one.
@joiadevita3 жыл бұрын
I know you're asking Sophie, but I thought I'd add a response as someone who uses the seasonal feeding system! :) It is by no means the *only* way to feed a bird a balanced diet, but I like that it takes a lot of the guesswork out of it. I make a big batch, thaw out a few days at a time, and on those days I'll add various things to it-- fruit, sprouts, edible blossoms, things that mimic my eclectus's wild diet. Basically, I know that when I make a batch of Birdtricks chop, it's a balanced nutritious meal, and that to me is worth it :)
@BirdNerdSophie3 жыл бұрын
I don't have the cookbooks myself but I imagine they are a fairly comprehensive diet. However they are by no means the only way to feed a balanced diet to your bird! I don't think my birds would eat it though as they won't eat frozen then thawed out food!

Hi Sophie, so my cockatiels are acting strangely lately, one of them is fearless while the other is very scared, that’s their normal personality, but now the scared one isn’t so scared, when I get close to it it tries to bite, usually it would run away but now it’s not, the owner of the pet store said they will lay eggs in 15 days, he said that on Friday when we bought them, today is Tuesday so 11 days left, and when I hover my hand on their nest both of them hiss and try to bite, they’ve been going in the nest a lot lately, does that mean they will lay eggs soon? If not then how can I fix this strange behavior and make them both stop biting?
@BirdNerdSophie3 жыл бұрын
You can’t predict when birds will lay eggs, but I would recommend taking the nest box out and not encouraging breeding as it can cause lots of problems! They are probably biting because they’re hormonal and are in breeding mode!
@Mo.39133 жыл бұрын
@@BirdNerdSophie ok thanks, but I’m trying to get them to breed so we can have a long process and have cockatiels for a long time and maybe sell a bit, any tips on how to get them to stop biting? Also they started to stretch their wings when they hiss. Also what do you mean by problems when they lay eggs?
@BirdNerdSophie3 жыл бұрын
@@Mo.3913 laying eggs is very stressful on the body and can cause problems for the female. Of you are intending to breed them, they are going to bite and hiss as they are trying to protect their nest and each other!
