Katie - I wore a wig for fourteen years after cancer and it finally started growing back this past year. A true miracle after 14 years. Anyway, you have the best attitude about your hair. I was the same way, there's no shame in my game, it's just been part of the journey. Continue to be well and be your naturally beautiful self - Diana

@@balletmeli Be careful with the Biotin. Obviously as a Cancer survivor you're used to way more follow up appointments than the average person, Biotin can muck up some of your test results when you get bloodwork. Otherwise, you probably already know your stuff. All the Best. NEC for the win.

I do calf rises in all my classes when I teach as there was research from Australia a few years ago that said a series of relevés at the end of barre significantly reduced lower leg injuries in dancers. So all my students, from teeny tiniest humans to adults have to do rises at the end of barre.

Talking about not wearing flat shoes much any more made me remember when my not at all Catholic self would jokingly/not-jokingly give up flat shoes for Lent for a few years when I was in training. I would take them out of my bag even so I didn't have an excuse. If it was ballet, I wore my pointe shoes, and if it was something that required demi-pointe I would go barefoot. Really helped to build both sets of callouses ahead of spring performances and then summer intensives which always involved both pointe pieces and barefoot pieces!

Dear Kathryn, it is so good to see you this morning. Thank you for all you shared. I am turning 62 on rememberance day Started ballet 22 months ago carrying an extra 20 lbs on my 5 foot 3.5 inches frame. Watching your videos has encouraged me so much in the matter of eating well and not obsessing over weight loss, which at my age, does not come easily. Your videos were again, what helped me persevere safely through injuries and when I struggled with posture and balance, guess who helped me? You again. I go to an excellent studio, but when I struggle with something, I just look for one of your videos, I always find what I need.

I love Cloud and Victory, because their sizes are so inclusive. I am tall and relatively thin adult beginner and I am never quite sure whether leotards fit me. Average sized women, who don't have the "typical dancer" shape have it even harder than me. Plus they have a great sense of humor!

As a hairstylist, a leave in biotin product is brilliant, the product shown in video is a great one! Biotin is one of those ingredients that are commonly thrown around in relation to hair growth, however when you see them in those (typically gimmicky) hair supplements or even regular supplements they can wreak havoc on the skin, make you break out and potentially cause other problems, that’s why a topical is so great! Another line I like to recommend is Olaplex. It’s often mentioned alongside hair that has been colored, lightened or chemically treated otherwise, but it is also a great option on natural (virgin) hair just as well by helping to restore and/or keep those bonds strong.👌🏼
@jessieborrell18562 жыл бұрын
Totally agree about Olaplex. I used to use it a lot on my hair when it was longer. It helped a ton!

Katie, for your hair, have you ever looked at the Curly Girl Method (which works for curly and wavy hair)? It looks like you have a natural wave. My hair was super thin and broke a lot before I switched to the CGM, but when I started wearing it curly it got so much thicker (even though my hair falls out like you wouldn't believe). I also found that Folate/folic acid supplements (typically prenatal supplements) helped a lot! Maybe check with your doc! :) Also! Your hair (even without the extensions) still looks great!
@kathryn_morgan2 жыл бұрын
Interesting! I’ll look into that, thank you!
@morrisminor722 жыл бұрын
Yes! My hair has never been thin, but it is super fine and very slippery, and pre curly girl method it looked very much like yours Catherine. Straight-ish, verging on wavy. I am 18 months in to CG, and my hair is curly. I am not super strict with the method, but it does work. I now have issues actually ponytailing my hair for class, it is so voluminous (also got it cut to chin length in August which didn’t help).

1. I'm so glad your hair is growing back. Hashimoto's picked the wrong person to mess with. 2. I don't dance, but back before COVID, Clif Bars were probably my favourite snack for after karate, and now I know why--because, like dance, karate involves a lot of spurts of energy as well. So, that's some good insight. :) 3. I don't wear foundation, but now I'm going to see if Revlon Colour Stay makes concealer too. I've been wearing Cover Girl, and it wears off after a few hours, so maybe I should take a page from the Book of Kathryn.

Hi Katie, Do you have any advice for dancers with no access to pre-pro training? I live in a medium-sized city with a few local studios, but nothing rigorous enough for the ballet world. Thank you so much for any advice. Love from an adoring student
@kathryn_morgan2 жыл бұрын
This is tricky. Just make sure you are working hard but smartly in every class you take. You can always do extra classes at second studio if that's possible for you. (I did this when I was younger). A lot of dancers do! Just keep training where you can. Doing ANYTHING will get your further than you think!

I would assume having a second style of shoe would be a good workout for your feet as a sort of cross conditioning. They won't ever be able to get "used to" a shoe if you are switching them out every little bit so they have to work differently
