My day out in Kannur Kerala - Unlock 1.0 INDIA - Is it safe during Coronavirus?

After months of #coronavirus lockdown in India, the government finally started the Unlock 1.0 phase in June. Finally, me and my husband were also allowed to exit our residential area near Payyanur and go run some essential business and errands in Kannur city, Kerala. However needed our outing was, I was super nervous about leaving the jungle and going somewhere with tons of people. No matter what safety measures we take, getting Covid19 is always a possibility. As a foreign girl, I was also anxious of people's attitudes towards me.
Now I've put myself under quarantine to make sure I won't spread a possible infection to other people.

I always tell my friends here in Canada that people in east live very close to nature and have very low carbon footprint. It can be seen by the fact people use banana leaves instead of plastic plates or provision to repair electronics for cheap instead of use and throw concept. Vlogger from Canada

Great point! I had even written an article on Medium about the same issue - the per capita carbon foot print in India is way lower than the so-called cleaner countries in the West. And I absolutely love the whole culture of reusing and the jugaad methods in india :)

@@JohannaNorth whole india should try to adapt few things from Sikkim state. Especially western region of India which is heavily industrialised and per capita consumption of every product is very high. North and South india is has pretty low per capita consumption and hence low carbon footprint.

The restaurant you stood outside is called ondens on onden road. Their speciality is fish. If you are interested in a veggie and organic one it's called prakriti at caltex in kannur which serves an ounce of amla juice with lunch .

damn you lucky souls! odhens is one of the best seafood places in Kerala. We rarely pay much attention to the meals they serve. The side dishes of seafood are the main attraction. Next time you re-visit odhens, check for mussels, king fish and fish eggs. They are amazing. The green curry sounds like some sort of pachadi ( curd based curry). Once the lockdowns eases, you can check out a few more restaurants in Thallaserry, especially the biryani in paris (thats the restaurant name)

The black rice you mentioned is called navara rice it has medicinal benifits but is grown in palaghat district . Now only one farmer does it his father who was the last person to cultivate this variety . But this man after retirement took up his father's agricultural land started out again.

I cant believe you live in Kannur. My husband is from that area. You must be a celebrity there. Every time I visit I get so many stares and I am not blonde. We enjoy the slow pace there but not much entertainment with 2 small children.

Seems like a real rain storm/ flash floods, before the rain begun the town looks bit similar to SLanka hill towns too. The cooking utensils u bought r same as Tamil Nadu& SLanka food makers e.g, idly, puttu, Appam makers, missing is dosa maker but one uses flat pan mostly for dosa, but who's the expert S Indian food cook, either one of u or some home cook visits u( like one Cdn family staying in SLanka was doing + learning from the visiting cook too). You bought some excellent sea food feast (so inexpensive too) that Kerala is well known for👌 nice town, does it get cooler in the night or A.C still, whole vlog's excellent.

Oh yes I very much like Sri Lanka too, many similarities to Kerala! 🥰 We already had a dosa tawa at home, which I've also been using for making the appam 😊 I learn by reading about the cooking methods and I've always followed dosa chefs closely when we're out eating dosa! And then I just try myself as many times as needed until I nail it 😁

You were at City center Mall. Find time to go to Payyambalam Beach, Baby Beach, and the fort next time. Baby Beach you don't need to get out of the car even, just enjoy the view. The Kannur light house is next you could think of. All just 1 km from the City center. I stay at Payyambalam.

I thought Finnish people have names that are not anglicized, I like traditional Finnish names. Finland is close to north pole, it must be so cold. Try to get sunshine every day for vitamin D, it will help keep you safe from corona virus from Wuhan, also vitamin C. I heard Drinking tea made from ginger, turmeric, black pepper and put some ghee in the cup just before pouring hot tea in the cup, will boost immune system. Vitamin D is very important, Sun needs to fall on the skin.

We have done well but now the situation is getting precarious. The situation in Maharashtra and Delhi is grim but yeah on the positive side, 1.5lakh active cases in 1.5billion people are quite reasonable.

I agreed with the govt actions initially too, but am getting worried now. We shouldn't look at the recovery rate too much, as the number of infection is getting scarily high and now many areas like delhi are starting to test less!! We wouldn't even know the real number. From that if still almost 50% have NOT recovered, there are still so many with the disease in need of help. Tho ofc many western countries are doing even worse 😔

In puttu Maker we prepare Ragi puttu, which is very very nutritious and healthy. My suggestion, make it a habit to eat ragi puttu at least twice to thrice a week. Good healthy body, even good for constipation, etc.
