I wanted to love this figure when it was announced Mcfarlane was doing it, but so many things frustrate me about it. As you pointed out it's kinda on the small size, the hammer is flimsy, and I'm not a big fan of paint job. Most egregious to me, though, is how they market it as based on Steel from the "Reign/Return" era when it is more clearly his armor from later on when he was a member of the JLA (which as you also pointed out is on the phone image on the packaging). If it was just marketed as "Steel" without a storlyine reference and came with a shorter hammer like the one he used during that period (the one where the farther it went the harder it hit) I would've been all over this. As is I will wait to see if he possibly releases it with more/different accessories and a more metallic paint job.

The Reign of Supermen is a story arc I enjoyed. I was looking forward to getting this figure for a domestic price. This review tempered my excitement. I'm comfortable waiting for this one.

McFarlane has a lot of QC issues. I had to put another layer of paint on the Earth 2 Superman's S. I could see right through the yellow. I'm making a custom Filmation/Silver age style Superman. Remember Super Powers Tim Drake cape being black and yellow on the box, but only yellow in the box? I made 2 layer capes for them. How long do you examine a toy before doing a review? I feel some people do them too fast. I like doing first impression vids, and then a full review. Because there's things you'll notice later, that you don't notice right away. I would say you'd need to airbrush the right shade of gray. MAFEX makes the best looking figure. But not as tall as McFarlane. I HATE plastic caapes. Superboy Prime is pretty cheap right now. McFarlane has it for $12! I think I'll get it, just for S&Gs. I bought the Batman first appearance figure. Did you? I think it's the 2nd figure they've made with a wired cape.. Right?

I hot both the regular and the Platinum and I'll say it's a step backwards for McFarlane. Paint is garbage articulation is meh considering his legs don't go forward or back Accessories lacking and once again the wrong plastic used on Weapons. For all that its lacking you'd think this is where he would add the soft goods cape...

According to McFarlane’s site, Walmart and Target are not retailers for this figure. Might want to reach out directly to Mcfarlane CS. Personally I would not consider the paint as a true QC issue. It doesn’t affect form or function

that kenner deluxe blast hammer steel figure is the suit irons made when he returned home directly after supermans return and at the very end of that story he added the "S" back on the suit making it the suit from the box art! also that specific steel story/grafic novel whatever it was is the basis for the shaq steel movie... it's actually a really good book!

good review, is on my list, at least this QC issue is funny and easy to fix with acetone but not on the hammer. I'm a bit behind with my Death and Reurn of Superman figures because I finally got the first two Fighting the Frozen Page Punchers figures, Batman and Robin

In my point of view is that both 2018 Death of Superman and 2019 Reign of The Supermen animated movies did the comics justice despite the suits being mostly Rebirth and New 52, I may only have the Solar Suit Superman and Jonathan Kent Superboy because I don't have Kon El, I will get Steel which looks cool with that hammer.

I grabbed the Eradicator and painted his face flesh colored Grabbed Solar Superman and swapped his head (and gave him Eradicator's fists) And tossed a Mongul figure in the background. Combined with Steel and Superboy, it makes for a kinda decent Reign display if you squint just right. Hope we get a Cyborg Superman soon.

Great review! If you are going to fix the issue I’d probably use a q-tip and acetone. But I did hear that it was marbled into the plastic, but I’m not sure.

I feel the knock of the points for the QC is bit harsh like if it was a common issue I understand but every other reviewer i seen that have this figured didn’t have it. Specially because it’s very fixable by ether painting it othet or just using alcohol to wipe it ofd

bro it still got a 4/5 at the end anyway. 5POA is just way too soft on MCF figures. This release in particular has a bunch of terrible design choices. The diaper is super rigid and has been prone to breaking, the legs are too long, they gave him duck feet, it's missing the fuel lines on the side of his legs, and that's just scratching the surface.
