That is a nice mill you have there. Deckel made nice machinery. I ran Deckel duplicator mill A few times, and thought it A nice machine. A great addition to it would be a tombstone keyed to the table. The tombstone would be full of threaded holes to facilitate clamping. A sideplate fastened to the edge would allow clamping parts for squaring purposes. Mine was 2 1/4" thick × 9" tall × 12" long. The key, fitted to the table slots, aligns it, with socket head cap screws through the block into t- nuts to secure it to the table. I used mine every other day for years to hold larger, awkward parts.

Finally a video on a fp1, I recently bought a 1952 fp1 and love most everything about it. Not having reverse really sucks for tapping as you mentioned as well. I wish I could figure a way to install a dro off the spindle but have be unable to make happen yet. About 20 years ago a mate of mine who is a tool maker effectively bought out a small tool making business from a guy who was retiring and got all the machines. There was an EDM, a Deckel tool grinder and Deckel mill with all sorts of tooling. I can remember him showing me this collection and the look in his eyes at what he had scored. Unfortunately I didn't appreciate the significance of what he had scored. I'm a control system & automation engineer and I just didn't grasp what he was trying to tell me. Because of COVID I have had the chance to re-learn a few things and learn some new stuff and one of them is just what these things mean and what you can do with them. You have lucked out with this, but I know you wont waste it and will look forward to see what you do with it.

@@Rustinox You know one of those small engines would be a nice first off project. One of the small PM, Stuart or Hemmingway kits???? It doesn't have to be one of the complex ones, just one that makes good use of the new machine.

I spent 3 years in the early 80s using a deckel fp1 with 3 axis DRO, fixed table, rotary head, slotting head and high speed head on top of what you have there making complex cavities and cores for injection molds. I love the incredible versatility and accuracy of these machines even after 30 years. I also got to use fp2 and fp3. This was in Australia.

That's nice, Ron. I suppose, you know how to run a milling machine now :) Before I had this one, I only operated a milling machine in scool. Son I have a lot to learn.

I'm really happy for you that you have added such a lovely mill to your workshop kit. You have definitely made the right choice by buying this Deckel rather than a hobbyist bench top machine. The Deckel will likely need some fettling to get everything in good tune but it is a solid well made piece of kit. Maybe a project for the near future is a small workshop listing crane to assist with changing vises ,dividing head and other accessories onto the table. A couple of books I recommend are Dividing by Harold Hall. He also authored a book on using the milling machine. Both books are available in the Workshop Practice Series. Really looking forward to future videos with this Deckel mill👌

Hi Rustinox, gratulations to your nice new machine! I have also a Deckel Fp1 and iam very happy with it. You talked about the "Stiff switching" of the feeds, this is exaclty the same problem i had with my Fp1. So i have changed the Oil in the Feed-Gearbox an now, it switches really smooth. I have used 0,75 liter of an HLP46 Hydraulic Oil, witch is recomended for Main and Feed Gears and its really cheap. You can change it when you open the Flap under the Feeding switches. Maybe you can try this, i think it will improve the switching alot. Greethings from Munich, Andi

I have the MK1 model, slightly older, from 1938. I received it without change gears for table feed. So i gutted the table feed mechanism and I am replacing with a motor driven system and fit everything in where the previous chain drive was. Only thing stops you from reversing the feed is because feed wont work if you reverse the spindle, but with my approach, I can reverse the spindle too. Additional to that, I have the pump for the coolant did not test yet but I can give it to you.

Nice mill you've got there sir. Welcome to the deckel family. You talked about the german (over)engineering and why the locks of the Y-axis are on the other side. This is due to engineering, because the gib must be on that side, Your y-axis handwheel is on the right side of the machine, so is your angled transmission. If you"ve got the chance to get your hands on a fixed table, buy it. its much lower than this angular table. you going to need it from time to time. The powerfeed lever must probably need a cleaning and a good lubrication.

Now, with the Deckel, the shaper and the very suitable engine lathe you have what could be considered the best equipped Tiny Shop in the World ! Just goes to show that with a little ingenuity and patience you can still build a shop on a budget -- more good work to come ! If you're going to do a lot of climb milling, get yourself some good quality way oil -- the "stickiness" ( along with proper gib adjustment ) really helps with those worn leadscrews as compared to something like the really thick leadscrew grease . Of course, looking into getting a new leadscrew nut would also be a definite plus . Keep up the good work, Rusti ! until later -- ken .

I always enjoy your shaper videos but I must say this mill is a beauty. I like the idea of using the rail to hold the JO Blocks. Due to the ease of using DRO many have never seen the old way of using blocks and buttons to hit the exact points of measurement. I of course look forward to seeing more of this mill in future videos as well as more videos of the shaper. Thanks

There will be other shaper videos in the future, and also mill and lathe vids of course.

congratulations on the new machine Michel! Don't show it too much attention or the shaper is going to get jealous! lol.
