Hello, great video! I work as a dev for dexcom and it is always a pleasure to see people be excited about G7, reading through all the comments and getting to know stories of lots of people is a blessing and gives a lot more of inspiration to keep giving my best on the job. I hope you all like G7!! Great things to come in the future!

Any word if this will ever work with a Medtronic pump? Medtronic pumps are great but their sensors terrible, would be nice if these worked with Medtronic pump then we'd have the best of both worlds!

I have a question. I live in US and just last month I got my second G6 unit. When the G7 is released in US will they eventually replace all G6s or will I have to wait 5 years again for new unit.
@MS-bo6jc
@MS-bo6jc 2 жыл бұрын
I too have a quick question and that is in the concern of having sensor failures being replaced all day long as one dexcom employee stated …. is not an issue. But replacing the transmitter when there’s problems is a big issue. How does this reflect with the G7? As my child is hit or miss on a vein and the blood will come rushing out. So my concern is, will Dexcom still be as wonderful as they had been with a G6 with the G7 in regards to bleeding issues and failures with replacing right away?

Wow, you've really seen it all! What a legend! My late great uncle was Type 1 and he was born in 1913. I believe he was diagnosed around the advent of Insulin. I can't imagine what trouble he went through over the years just to stay alive, but he ended up living to a ripe old age of 93!

Wow! I was born in 1965. Are you still in good health? Did you get interested early on in maintaining the best possible control with a strict diet? I read Dr Bernstein's book many years ago. I don't know if you are familiar with his story of course. He got type ONE at 11 and is alive and even active here on KZbin at 88! He follows a very low carb diet and has normal glucose all the time. He doesn't agree that an A1C of 7 is good enough. He eats so little carbohydrate that he doesn't even use fast acting insulin. He thinks the diabetics who eat just like everyone else/whatever they want do develop complications eventually. He says it's next to impossible to not have rollercoaster 🎢 blood sugars if you eat lots of carbohydrate and use lots of fast acting insulin. Others feel that now with pumps and CGM's it is possible to eat however you want and still maintain good control. Any thoughts about about any of this?

Agreed. I can think of many situations where a brief pause in the alarms would be good: wedding ceremonies, funerals, job interviews, etc. I keep mine on vibrate-only most of the time, and don't usually mind it, but even that could be awkward in a job interview.

I was diagnosed 47 years ago (When surviving a Type I Diagnosis by 25 years was considered remarkable!) and started with five drops of urine in the test tube to test my glucose levels. It was essentially useless, but it was all that was available. Then after several technological false starts, I started doing real-time "finger sticks" four times a day. This allowed much better control. Now I've been on G6 for the last 2 years and, while I do not like its accuracy variations, I have come to rely on it. It has awakened me with low-level alarms a number of times, and that, I really have to say, is what makes the system so valuable. Waiting for G7 with more than mild anticipation! Please tell me if and how frequently the G7 gives "Sensor Error -- Please Wait."

I am 65 yrs old and have been a type 1 since age 9. I remember also doing the urine test for sugar in the test tube. Crazy looking back then too what is happening now. It's like going from the stone ages to space age technology also remembering my mom had to sterilize a glass syringe with no disposable syringes at that time.
@michaellee2746

I have also been diabetic for a long time, just over 52 years, and remember the glass stainless syringe, and urine test, that test told you too late there was a problem, I got reasonably good at feeling the high so would just do a calculated guess to fix it. My endocrinologist then said I had better control than other patients. I went on to blood tests when they became available. I have been on Dexcom G6 CGM for 6 months and TSlim pump for a month, 2 weeks in bolus mode then iq switched on after basal rates established, Much less to carry around, but at considerable cost. Still worth it.

Wow, thanks for the information. I recently dropped my HbA1C down from 11 to 6.8 using the DEXCOM G6. It gives me the confidence I need to use a bit more insulin because I know that the alarms have my back. That said, the greater accuracy, the smaller footprint, the faster warm-up, and the integration of Clarity into the app makes me very, very happy.

I can identify with all the issues of diabetes I have been a type 1 diabetic for 37 years, I think I've seen it all, I also remember my aurt boiling needles to give my uncle shots when I was a kid. I'm almost 70 now, I've been using the Tandem t:slim insulin pump with the Dexcom G6 for about a year and a half now just like you've been using. This set up sure beats testing with finger sticks 5 times a day and the old pork and beef insulin I started out using 37 yrs ago. Technology sure has come a long way and it has saved my wife from making those 911 calls from when I would go into diabetic comas, the Tandem - Dexcom set up is truly a life savior for me. Love your informative videos keep up the great work on the new items coming out for us type 1's.

Yes , our 5 year old made the switch a month ago (in the U.S.) total game changer on the warm up time and the smaller lighter device for his tiny arms!can't believe we ever waited that 2 hrs in changeouts . We always use the overpatch. So far no issues with any of them coming off! We did have to call dexcom on first one, found out we hadn't removed the G6 app completely off phone and it waned to interfere with new G7 sensor....So heads up when switching u have to remove old app entirely off device.

Yeah, the shorter warm-up period, overlapping sensors, and grace period cover many of the issues, and probably were also put in place for better integration with closed-loop systems. With the G6, unless you do some trickery with older transmitters and such, you can't have an uninterrupted sensor feed, so the closed loop has to be paused for up to a day.

Thank you for the upload. I’ve been type 1 for over 30 years. I’ve been on the G6 for 2 1/2 years, such a great sensor. Though I have those issues of it coming off before the 10 days end. I end up putting another overlay patch on. I’ve been trying to get my hb1c under 7 for a very long time. And guess what it happened yesterday 6.9%, and today 6.8 on the clarity app. I am so excited for the G7 as I do knock my current sensor often. The G7 looks so much smaller and is round, instead of the oval shaped G6. I look forward to seeing more vids on the G7. I live in Australia I’m 46 and I’m waiting on the G7 to be approved here. I’ve already got a email indicating some big changes this. I’m excited 😊 🦋

Do you know if the G7 is officially approved for insertion on your arms as well as the usual places that the G6 is approved for (belly for adults and belly or lower back/butt for young kids)? Also, I love how slim it is! I do get self-conscious sometimes about my G6 sticking out…I also have had both my toddler and my dog accidentally rip the top half of my sensor off before, so hopefully the G7 isn’t as easy to tear off! LOVE THE G7!! My son is switching from Libre 2 to the G7 and I’m floored at the differences! Another thing that is GREAT about the G7 is the alarms. I don’t know about the G6 but I love that the G7 has alarms that do not sound like a fire alarm. Nobody wants to wake up to that sound at 4 in the morning for example, or have it go off in public. The only thing that is not so high on my list is the proximity factor. You must stay within 20 feet of the app. That can be a little difficult especially when you live in a 2 story house. Hoping that range may be extended in the G8 whenever that comes out. Aside from that detail it’s definitely a game changer!

I can go on a bike without fear of a low, knowing that the G7 will alert me in advance if something goes wrong. And coming from Libre 2, it just feels spectacular. The alarms are marvellous. They really set this product apart from others. It tells you if your glucose is dropping too fast, or rising too fast. If you have been more than X time above target. It even allows you to "acknowledge" the alarms, and they will not annoy you more for a period of time. I hope that they made the integration with Omnipod 5 soon. That would be a dream.

I see most people using the G6 and now the G7 in the back of the arm. When I have tried using that location for my G6 2 things happen; 1. I get pressure lows from sleeping on my side and 2. I get notifications from my Tandem that it can't find the sensor randomly (too far away). Because of these issues, I wear my G6 in my upper thighs. Do we think these will be fixed with the G7?

Just switched last week form the G6 to the G7, and so far love it. Other than laying on my Left side (Sensor on Left Arm) and the back of my arm is on the mattress, and I lost readings during the night. I'm mainly a right-side sleeper, worried about putting it on the right arm. I understand the back of the arm is the only approved site, have you used it any other places?

Wonderful review, thank you. I'm looking at reviews for a new pump and CGM system and the G7 is the CGM that will be included in whichever I choose. I love the 30-minute warmup, with overlapping stats from the old sensor. Much better than the 2-hour warmup and 6-hour multiple calibration I had to do with the Medtronic sensors I've used previously.

Sounds great! I'm in virginia,USA. Wear the dexcom g6 with the omniod 5. Got my first A1C of 6.2 in 40 years! Called omnipod helpline and was told they did know when they would be able to connect with the g7. Was told to call dexcom. I'm already on the list to upgrade when systems work together. Will hopefully be able to point out the urgency of approving a continued partnership with the two products!

I am going to be getting an Omnipod five pretty soon, and luckily I’ve already had the Dexcom G6 for 8+ months, and after watching your video, I can’t wait until the G7 is compatible with the Omnipod five. Hopefully with this one we can put it on opposite arms or opposite sides of our body, and that way even our own body won’t be an interference between the two.

6:29 When people voice these concerns about ignoring alarms, I think it is important to explain that after you took glucose to correct the low, the BG will not instantly rise. It takes about 10 minutes for the small intestine etc. to absorb that glucose. It makes no sense for the urgent low alert to keep shouting at you even after you took your glucose, *especially* during a bad low when you are already anxious and stressed out, so that update in the app is great. Also, you mention the much thinner profile. Does this alleviate compression lows? Those are an issue for me with the G6, but I typically am a side sleeper, so I just place the G6 on the arm that I currently don't sleep on. And speaking of arms, is it correct that for the G7 the abdomen is no longer an officially approved site, and you are supposed to only use the arms now?
@friedelpas5637
@friedelpas5637 2 жыл бұрын
With the G6 you have the option for the alarm to put OK in the app. And you can via the setup define how long he has to be quiet after that. So normally when putting the OK you can put it quiet for 15 minutes and when then it is still to low, you will got a new alarm. But you have no alarms during the time it takes normally to rise the blood sugar again. But I agree with this reaction that communication about what and why and how with your colleagues or others you are regularly are together is essential. It is the key issue to make it possible to treat your illness in the best way. In my experience it is either exceptional that then they do not understood. In many cases they are worrying that it is going well when the alarm came up again after some time. When they not do that in that case, that say a lot of their attitude, not yours.

Probably no differnece in A1Cs unless you make more lifestyle modfications. I'd expect the 90 day eAG of the ABGP to be closer to the antiquated A1C number.- if the software is even able to calculate it.

Sounds great especially the smaller size because the G6 shows under light weight clothes. Also to be able to use your arm and allow your stomach to rest. How do I find out how I might qualify to switch? I am type 2 and have been on Dexcom 6 for approximately three to four years. 🙏🏾

The silent mode is definitely appreciated. I found my own ways of making it silent, like a system do not disturb mode on a phone or just turning it off for a while, but having it built in is nice. I've been out of school for a long time now, but back before I had a glucose monitor and was just on an insulin pump, if I got an unexpected low insulin alert or other error on my insulin pump in class, it was like a nightmare. Having more easily accessible control over that is very nice

I'm not sure! I'm so sorry to say! I do think the adhesive is more strong, but I don't have that one record or anything! It's also smaller so less likely to get caught/pulled/put pressure on the adhesive anyway, if that makes sense!

I'm so excited to try the G7 out eventually! I was wondering if you've noticed whether the first day accuracy is better with the G7. One of my gripes with the G6 is that sometimes the first day I put in a sensor is hellish when it comes to inaccuracies (to the point where I often have to turn off Control IQ), then it corrects itself by day 2. I'm really hoping the G7 is better with this.
@ShesDiabetic
@ShesDiabetic 2 жыл бұрын
I know EXACTLY what you mean - honestly, I've had the same experience and I had mixed results with the G7 regarding this. It's hard to know what causes the mixed results, given that we're always changing sites which each new sensor. I did however find better accuracy in the first day the longer I had my next sensor in (and before starting it) during that 12 hour grace period. Some people call it 'soaking' the sensor. I did however, on the whole, find it more accurate on the first day than the G6, I can say that, which is a relief because I too am on the Control iQ and need that accuracy desperately!!

After 24 hours I do also a finger measurement. In half the cases the accuracy is good, in the other half it shows about 30 mg/dl more then the finger measurement and then I callibrate. When not doing it at that time it happens more that I come later in problem with very low sugar.

@@ShesDiabetic I am a little confused when you say you had better accuracy on the first day by soaking the sensor during the 12 hour grace period before starting the sensor. I never start my G6 until it has been in my tissue for at least 12 hours before starting it, but with the G7, it starts automatically. Were you talking about the G6 or G7 ? Only the G7 has that 12 hour grace period.

Great video! I'm not quite understanding how you can have both sensors on at the same time. Do you have to stop the old sensor in order to start a new one?
@dwightl5863
@dwightl5863 2 жыл бұрын
Kind of wondering the same. But I'm thinking that you will need to "pair" the new G7 sensor to your phone/receiver/pump. Same as when you start a new G6 transmitter. Until you do that the readings will continue to come from the old sensor. After the half hour warm up, unpair the old sensor and pair the new. That is IF the new sensor starts the half hour warm up once inserted and not after it is paired.

I'm so excited about the Quiet Mode so that I can treat a low and then not have to listen to my phone scream like a banshee while the CGM catches up. The reduction in lag time will help in this case, too, but I've induced so many blood sugar roller coaster rides by over-treating just to get the G6 to stop alerting. And I've definitely turned off my phone for the same reason you cite. Thanks for this fantastic review!
