I have a question. I live in US and just last month I got my second G6 unit. When the G7 is released in US will they eventually replace all G6s or will I have to wait 5 years again for new unit.
@MS-bo6jc2 жыл бұрын
I too have a quick question and that is in the concern of having sensor failures being replaced all day long as one dexcom employee stated …. is not an issue. But replacing the transmitter when there’s problems is a big issue. How does this reflect with the G7? As my child is hit or miss on a vein and the blood will come rushing out. So my concern is, will Dexcom still be as wonderful as they had been with a G6 with the G7 in regards to bleeding issues and failures with replacing right away?

Wow, you've really seen it all! What a legend! My late great uncle was Type 1 and he was born in 1913. I believe he was diagnosed around the advent of Insulin. I can't imagine what trouble he went through over the years just to stay alive, but he ended up living to a ripe old age of 93!
@jackschitt62352 жыл бұрын
Wow! I was born in 1965. Are you still in good health? Did you get interested early on in maintaining the best possible control with a strict diet? I read Dr Bernstein's book many years ago. I don't know if you are familiar with his story of course. He got type ONE at 11 and is alive and even active here on KZbin at 88! He follows a very low carb diet and has normal glucose all the time. He doesn't agree that an A1C of 7 is good enough. He eats so little carbohydrate that he doesn't even use fast acting insulin. He thinks the diabetics who eat just like everyone else/whatever they want do develop complications eventually. He says it's next to impossible to not have rollercoaster 🎢 blood sugars if you eat lots of carbohydrate and use lots of fast acting insulin. Others feel that now with pumps and CGM's it is possible to eat however you want and still maintain good control. Any thoughts about about any of this?

@@barryreadeau9763 I often fantasize about having been born a few decades earlier ... except for the thought I having to manage my diabetes, back then.
@arthurdevain7542 жыл бұрын
I was diagnosed 47 years ago (When surviving a Type I Diagnosis by 25 years was considered remarkable!) and started with five drops of urine in the test tube to test my glucose levels. It was essentially useless, but it was all that was available. Then after several technological false starts, I started doing real-time "finger sticks" four times a day. This allowed much better control. Now I've been on G6 for the last 2 years and, while I do not like its accuracy variations, I have come to rely on it. It has awakened me with low-level alarms a number of times, and that, I really have to say, is what makes the system so valuable. Waiting for G7 with more than mild anticipation! Please tell me if and how frequently the G7 gives "Sensor Error -- Please Wait."
@barryreadeau97632 жыл бұрын
I am 65 yrs old and have been a type 1 since age 9. I remember also doing the urine test for sugar in the test tube. Crazy looking back then too what is happening now. It's like going from the stone ages to space age technology also remembering my mom had to sterilize a glass syringe with no disposable syringes at that time.
@michaellee2746 Жыл бұрын
I have also been diabetic for a long time, just over 52 years, and remember the glass stainless syringe, and urine test, that test told you too late there was a problem, I got reasonably good at feeling the high so would just do a calculated guess to fix it. My endocrinologist then said I had better control than other patients. I went on to blood tests when they became available. I have been on Dexcom G6 CGM for 6 months and TSlim pump for a month, 2 weeks in bolus mode then iq switched on after basal rates established, Much less to carry around, but at considerable cost. Still worth it.

Wow, thanks for the information. I recently dropped my HbA1C down from 11 to 6.8 using the DEXCOM G6. It gives me the confidence I need to use a bit more insulin because I know that the alarms have my back. I can identify with all the issues of diabetes I have been a type 1 diabetic for 37 years, I think I've seen it all, I also remember my aurt boiling needles to give my uncle shots when I was a kid. I'm almost 70 now, I've been using the Tandem t:slim insulin pump with the Dexcom G6 for about a year and a half now just like you've been using. This set up sure beats testing with finger sticks 5 times a day and the old pork and beef insulin I started out using 37 yrs ago. Technology sure has come a long way and it has saved my wife from making those 911 calls from when I would go into diabetic comas, the Tandem - Dexcom set up is truly a life savior for me. We did have to call dexcom on first one, found out we hadn't removed the G6 app completely off phone and it waned to interfere with new G7 sensor....So heads up when switching u have to remove old app entirely off device.

I end up putting another overlay patch on. I’ve been trying to get my hb1c under 7 for a very long time. And guess what it happened yesterday 6.9%, and today 6.8 on the clarity app. I am so excited for the G7 as I do knock my current sensor often. LOVE THE G7!! My son is switching from Libre 2 to the G7 and I’m floored at the differences! Another thing that is GREAT about the G7 is the alarms. I don’t know about the G6 but I love that the G7 has alarms that do not sound like a fire alarm. Nobody wants to wake up to that sound at 4 in the morning for example, or have it go off in public. The only thing that is not so high on my list is the proximity factor. You must stay within 20 feet of the app. That can be a little difficult especially when you live in a 2 story house. Hoping that range may be extended in the G8 whenever that comes out. Aside from that detail it’s definitely a game changer!

Oh I'm so glad to hear you guys are loving the G7 so much!!! This is fantastic! Super interesting about the proximity - I've not had that issue, but I pretty much am glued to my phone so 😬 - but I can totally imagine that being problematic especially from different floors of your home! Just glad to hear that overall it's working so well for you!!!

6:29 When people voice these concerns about ignoring alarms, I think it is important to explain that after you took glucose to correct the low, the BG will not instantly rise. It takes about 10 minutes for the small intestine etc. to absorb that glucose. It makes no sense for the urgent low alert to keep shouting at you even after you took your glucose, *especially* during a bad low when you are already anxious and stressed out, so that update in the app is great. Also, you mention the much thinner profile. Does this alleviate compression lows? Those are an issue for me with the G6, but I typically am a side sleeper, so I just place the G6 on the arm that I currently don't sleep on. And speaking of arms, is it correct that for the G7 the abdomen is no longer an officially approved site, and you are supposed to only use the arms now?
@friedelpas56372 жыл бұрын
With the G6 you have the option for the alarm to put OK in the app. And you can via the setup define how long he has to be quiet after that. So normally when putting the OK you can put it quiet for 15 minutes and when then it is still to low, you will got a new alarm. But you have no alarms during the time it takes normally to rise the blood sugar again. But I agree with this reaction that communication about what and why and how with your colleagues or others you are regularly are together is essential. It is the key issue to make it possible to treat your illness in the best way. In my experience it is either exceptional that then they do not understood. In many cases they are worrying that it is going well when the alarm came up again after some time. When they not do that in that case, that say a lot of their attitude, not yours.

I can go on a bike without fear of a low, knowing that the G7 will alert me in advance if something goes wrong. And coming from Libre 2, it just feels spectacular. The alarms are marvellous. They really set this product apart from others. It tells you if your glucose is dropping too fast, or rising too fast. If you have been more than X time above target. It even allows you to "acknowledge" the alarms, and they will not annoy you more for a period of time. I hope that they made the integration with Omnipod 5 soon. That would be a dream.

I'm so excited about the Quiet Mode so that I can treat a low and then not have to listen to my phone scream like a banshee while the CGM catches up. The reduction in lag time will help in this case, too, but I've induced so many blood sugar roller coaster rides by over-treating just to get the G6 to stop alerting. And I've definitely turned off my phone for the same reason you cite. Thanks for this fantastic review!

Sounds pretty good. Addresses most of the deficiencies of the G6 software/firmware that pushed me to use xDrip and Anubis, with a couple of extra features. Looking forward to trying it out in a couple of years when it finally gets released here (probably around the time they start advertising G8).
@dvdv77772 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the shorter warm-up period, overlapping sensors, and grace period cover many of the issues, and probably were also put in place for better integration with closed-loop systems. With the G6, unless you do some trickery with older transmitters and such, you can't have an uninterrupted sensor feed, so the closed loop has to be paused for up to a day.

What a great review. Mine arrive tomorrow and I cannot wait!! Plus the UK gets them first! Really pleased with less waste, come and go subscription plus different kinds of subscriptions in the UK and much cheaper than the G6!

THANK YOU - so glad they added the "Silence All" feature! So glad not to have the air raid alarms go off on my phone AND pump in the middle of a work meeting :)

Wonderful review, thank you. I'm looking at reviews for a new pump and CGM system and the G7 is the CGM that will be included in whichever I choose. I love the 30-minute warmup, with overlapping stats from the old sensor. Much better than the 2-hour warmup and 6-hour multiple calibration I had to do with the Medtronic sensors I've used previously.

Thank you for the review. It sounds really great. The ability to silence all alarms is a big deal. Whether you’re ate Church, a wedding, a funeral, or wherever, is huge. I’m on Medicare, so it will probe awhile before they will cover it. We’ll see.

I completely agree!!! I hope Medicare gets access to the G7 and coverage ASAP!!

Recently heard that the FDA did not ok silencing the urgent low alarm. In a way I can understand that. If you are at 55 and dropping one isn't far from being in trouble. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The new generation sounds really good, although I do like my low blood sugar alerts for over night I am certain that there is a work around. Good information thanks for the update.
@ShesDiabetic2 жыл бұрын
I hear you completely becuase I like my overnight alerts too! You can totally keep the alerts on overnight - you can turn off the silence all feature at any time.

I have had lot's of sensor error issues messages on my first G7 sensor. The Bluetooth range also seems much shorter with the G7 than with the G6. The G6 seems like a rock solid workhorse. I think the G7 has some room for improvement. I am committed now for three months, hopefully it get better.

For me with low alerts especially at church, the G7 quite mode is awesome. Especially when your sleeping at night. Between 5 and 6 am, I get low alerts and I do eat before I go to bed. Though it difficult to know which food to eat at 9 or 10 pm. I guess it’s the same as the G6, not it’s not painful at all. The G6 is starting to come off 5 days before expiring, so I place another overlay on it. I am so looking forward to it being subside however, I live in Australia so it may be able at the end of 2023

The silent mode is definitely appreciated. I found my own ways of making it silent, like a system do not disturb mode on a phone or just turning it off for a while, but having it built in is nice. I've been out of school for a long time now, but back before I had a glucose monitor and was just on an insulin pump, if I got an unexpected low insulin alert or other error on my insulin pump in class, it was like a nightmare. Having more easily accessible control over that is very nice

ha! UK regulators have STILL not approved G7 integration with pumps. BUT we got a message a few weeks ago asking for volunteers to trial it but unfortunately you have to be an adult so my 17 year old can't do it but hopefully it will be integrated soon. G7 is awesome.

Thanks for that review! Also, great to see you again! Now I can only hope I can switch from the G6 :-)

Sounds great especially the smaller size because the G6 shows under light weight clothes. Also to be able to use your arm and allow your stomach to rest. How do I find out how I might qualify to switch? I am type 2 and have been on Dexcom 6 for approximately three to four years. 🙏🏾

It’s different depending on where you are in the world, etc, but I think the first thing to do would be to speak to your doctor!

I see most people using the G6 and now the G7 in the back of the arm. When I have tried using that location for my G6 2 things happen; 1. I get pressure lows from sleeping on my side and 2. I get notifications from my Tandem that it can't find the sensor randomly (too far away). Because of these issues, I wear my G6 in my upper thighs. Do we think these will be fixed with the G7?

I’ve become severely allergic to the adhesive of the G6 having to use barriers which finally work. I’m hoping the G7 changes the adhesive. Also I wear the G6 on my thigh. Well hidden and never gets bumped off like my arm.

I'm so sorry you've had trouble with the adhesive - this is the absolute worst!! Interesting about the leg site! Thank you for sharing this with me!

90% in range 😮 wow! My doc told me that my 80% was the highest she ever saw 😅
@friedelpas56372 жыл бұрын
80% I had with my medtronic sollution already. In my hospital there are about 3 patients with 90% in range where I'm one of they told me. So it is not the standard result and it still request some effort off your self and not alone of the close loop system. But seems to be possible. The Hemoglobine A1C of 5.3% was very exceptional they told me.
