Then he ranted about some stuff that made no real sense and I just did my part to listen, because I could feel how terrified he was, and as much as I didn't like what he was saying, I felt that perhaps he just needed someone to talk to, to get all these thoughts out of his head and into the real world, and he needed a sounding board that he could feel comfortable with. I didn't really like the idea that I was perceived as that kind of "safe place" but if not me, who else is he able to talk with? So I just stayed with it, and at the end he paid for both our meals.

I think the second half of the film is much better than the first half, which is truly excruciating. I went to see it in the Cinema on its first release. It was the choice of my 16 year old friend, it was her birthday, the rest of us just had to suck it up. She loved it, the rest of us hated it. The dinner afterwards was very memorable. I had the best Mee Goreng of my life. I've been chasing those flavours ever since.
