This has got to be the best home made lathe I’ve ever seen great job
@jacquescote960510 ай бұрын
thats not a bad little lathe ya got there. seems to have the proper adjustments and good RPM`S.... i would however add a steady bearing to the center of the shaft to eliminate the chatter and the blades you are using to shape yer tips, i would go to a blade that is only sharpened from one side. Your centering with the adjustable colletts and the dial indicator is bang on... very few cue repair guys use them or dont even know how to do that. It comes in really handy when someone wants a shaft repaired that is sanded or worn out of round... I`ve been doing repairs and making cues for 40 years on my own DIY lathe... 2 thumbs up from me!

I was going to build a center support with a couple of skateboard wheels but i never did it. Now i only use carbide tooling for the tips, you can see the attachment at the center-low of the video at the beginning. For some reason they dont come really sharpened, i have to sharpen them myself. I will show the attachments in a video. Thank you for your feedback.

Wow great work!! This is fantastic, I love the design too! I will be building this! I've been playing pool for about 3 years now and it's very hard to find someone to replace a pool cue tip in my area, the last guy I took my cue to the tip fell off during a tournament after a couple of games lol! After seeing your video it has motivated me to get into this! You should also consider developing another mount that holds the pool cue butt as well. I would love to learn how to re-condition a pool cue. I'm about to pull out my old 3D printer and get it up and running again so I can start building this. Once I get my 3D printer running I'll make the purchase for the Complete files list. Thanks for your hard work and sharing this design with us!

Very nice! Do you have any issues with leaving marks on the shaft when you are tightening it down with the set screws?
@emilioarroyomohamed10 ай бұрын
No, the tightening forces are very small and the inside of the collet is tapered to match the profile of the shaft so the lip inside the collet makes a lot of surface contact with it. Ofc after 3d printing it you have to make sure there is not bumps inside and sand off any irregularity if there is any. In doubt one can always put a piece of paper or vynil tape and choose a collet size a bit bigger.

While it may look nice, I wouldn't risk that razor snapping and flying into my face or damaging a cue with the very wabbly plastic printed collet with plastic jaw design. Looks nice, may be a cheap DIY for your own quick tip replacement but not for woodworking or more precise work.. You can buy a good quality lathe through temu for a few hundred more and without needing to get a 3d printer for making plastic parts. Very creative, points for that.
