How did East Africa meet Scandinavia? Also your haplogroup would tell you where you are from paternal and maternally so your one is ?
@JeffRowan10s7 жыл бұрын
I'm skeptical of both Scandinavia AND East Africa. Neither gets much play on 23andME, only AncestryDNA. Haplogroups: Maternal: L3b Paternal: R-PF6570
@jbaron81207 жыл бұрын
The haplogroups might help. L3b is East African mostly. R-PF6570 which is R1b1a1a2a1a2b. I found this through the first website below by searching (PF6570) and than through the tree in the other websites. isogg.org/tree/ISOGG_HapgrpR.html www.eupedia.com/europe/Haplogroup_R1b_Y-DNA.shtml www.eupedia.com/images/content/R1b-U152-tree.png
@jbaron81207 жыл бұрын
The thing that surprising is that you have L3 most slaves in history only usually have L1 or L2 which is West African. Or other European haplogroups. You have no ancestry in DNA test to East Africa. Might be Kenyan or from Mozambique Southern Bantu . Scandinavian not skeptical as they where in America and people probably thought they where British or German Descent. So kind of true. Might be 1/10000(0) slaves from East Africa.

Yes...much of what he is saying about the slave trade, I agree with. I lived in West Africa Nigeria and Benin, and spent time in Liberia, Ghana and Togo. I learned more about the slave trade than what I learned in the US in high school or university. 65% of slaves went to S. America, mostly in Brazil, about 35% to the Caribbean, 5% in the US and 5% elsewhere. Also, yes the Portuguese started the transatlantic slave trade. However, many of the slaves came through a tiny nation called Benin (known then as the Kingdom of Dahomey). Slaves from Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Ghana came through this port. The slaves were branded and sold wholesale by the African kings to slave traders who owned the ships. In the new world, they were sold in a "retail" manner. Just like traded goods.

As a degreed Sociologist, I know that it is easy to be misled by family stories and cultural misunderstanding by family and peers. We don't always appear to be what we mostly are. DNA is very complex. I am 25 percent Tennessee Creek Native and look like a half Irish, Half German. My brother is exactly the same make up but looks like he is half Native American. It is how a Genetic trait "Expresses" itself that decides what we look like. A lesser percentage of say, African DNA, may actually show up as a predominant ethnic gene, even though it is not the larger ethnic portion in your DNA. As I always say, Be proud of what you are, be proud of who you are.

I was going to suggest the same about the Scan ancestry re Ireland/England etc. However, there were a significant amount of Scan migration into the Americans during the 19th century and many traveled west, across PA, OH, IND and Illinois. Also, re Bantu... since Bantu is often described as one of the original or foundational peoples in Africa it is not uncommon to find very strong Bantu DNA in western African... especially since the Bantu migrated throughout the continent.

Thank you. Since doing the 23andme test 3 year ago, I've enjoyed watching people do videos about their results, I've watched dozens, but yours is the best. I'm very glad I did 23andme. They've updated my results a few times and a lot the broadly assigned dna has not only been allocated to certain countries, but in some cases to regions within the countries. Everything I'd been told or researched was verified but I got a few surprises too!

Hi Jeff Rowan, Your DNA test results is one of the best I have ever seen. I enjoyed watching every second. Like someone mentioned, you are a male Oprah. Your family pictures gave me goose bumps.....beautiful family background you came from. You are very handsome and intelligent. I enjoyed the brief history of the slave trade in America and elsewhere and I would love if you can make more videos on our history to help others. Your voice is will be GREAT for it. Thank you for this great video and I'm hoping to see more of you on other videos. By the way, I'm a Creole and I've been living in Denmark most of my life. My husbands is native of Denmark and my family immigrated to Sierra Leone (Krio) from America: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Leone_Creole_people The majority of my relatives are dead now... I'm hoping to have my DNA tested this summer. I'll try to share it with you 😊

Its amazing the variations of genes and ancestry that one can find out.. we always new our family had creole in us but we didn't know all of our ancestry turns out as pale as I am I have 15% sub African 48.7 % European 31 % native American and 10% undetermined.. it says i had a great grandfather born in 1860 that was 100% Congolese African.. i wonder if my African grandmother ever thought she would have a grandchild like me..

Same! I'm light but tan like Persian, what my old bosses, that were Persian used to call me. I'm racially ambiguous, and my in laws were shocked at my percentages lol 40% African(Senegal, Bantu, Benin and Togo, Ghana, N. African) supposedly my communities are N. Carolinas and Virginia(Appalachia) slave communities 33% European(Norman's, Britons, Scottish, France, Spain, Basque, Portugal) 27% Indigenous Mexica (Azteca, Yucatan Peninsula) (I knew this but thought it would be lower)
@cynthiapickett74034 жыл бұрын
@@Ab.eNormal I average about 80% Sub-Saharan Africa (65% west, almost 15% south/east); avg. 18% European (UK/Ireland, French/German, Balkan/eastern Europe, small percentage Iberian); avg.1% native American; 0.2% other. I also have Virginia (Cumberland Gap)/, Carolinas, Delmarva; native ancestry includes Lumbee and other black Amerindian/Mesoamerican (Azteca, Yucatan peninsula). Father's side is similar but smaller European and native (likely Choctaw). also have south (Afghanistan/Pakistan) and southeast Asian (Philippines/Indonesia) as well.

Also a lot of North American slaves weren't acquired directly from Africa but were bought in Caribbean and there were a lot of Slavers who after getting an initial group of slaves didn't undertake the expensive/dangerous risky getting of slaves in Africa but instead set up breeding establishments producing a continuous stream.

@TEC Man Thank you TEC Man. The way people go on, you'd think ONLY white people participated in slavery.
@katarinasmith43514 жыл бұрын
@TEC Man Yup. You hit the nail on the head. But they'll just call you a racist if you state these facts. It's unbelievable how so many black people and white liberals go on about slavery and want reparations; like us whites today are supposed to feel guilty about what happened 100 plus years ago. And Muslim countries completely get off the hook, even though they started it hundreds of years before whites, and ended it much, much later. Fun fact- most blacks vote Democrat. The current VP candidate, Kamala Harris, had ancestors that owned slaves! Yet, many will still vote for her (via Biden).
