Dog bites can happen for a lot of reasons, from a puppy in the teething stage nipping you to an attack by a strange dog on the street. A lot of times dogs can even bite those that are closest to you creating a disconnect in your relationship. In this limited series, Cesar Millan helps health & fitness instructor Rrayyme and her boyfriend Nathan with a common issue pet parents have regarding dog aggression and dog's biting.
Ara is a rescue who has been attacking her owner’s boyfriend. She is a perfect dog when her owner, Rrayyme, is around, but when Nathan, her boyfriend, enters the equation it’s a whole different story. Ara shows aggressive and over protective behaviors. Nathan hasn’t touched Ara in 5 months. Rrayyme and Nathan are at an impasse and don’t know what to do. Let’s see if Cesar Can Solve the Case.

There is no way to watch his interaction with Lorenzo without seeing his fear and his overwhelming drive toward self-protection. We all get like this when we have been hurt in the past. Or “spit in the face.” His exterior isn’t “tough” it’s hard. And hard things are often really fragile. I feel for the guy. And understand him. The most important thing Cesar did was provide a model to show there’s a different way of being strong. There’s a way to be calm that isn’t passive or weak. This was a hard episode to watch but ultimately incredibly instructive and moving. Thank you, Cesar.

People view all aggression as the same, but when the core emotions aren't identified you don't know the right techniques. He may have been used to aggressive bully dogs who need to be put into their place and learn to calm down. Their dog was afraid of him, and he probably used the same techniques and made her go from afraid to terrified thus defending herself and running from him. It's hard sometimes to bond when we dont feel loved by pets, but we have to be the ones to stay calm and work through our emotions before they can learn to work through theirs! Hope he chills out more and reduces his angry alpha energy

Sometimes people are naturally sensitive, sometimes people can be naturally tough. Lessons like these help to remind me, you can show a soft side, and showing that softer side doesn't mean you're weak. In fact it is the opposite. Sometimes when life is tough on you and that 'worked' for u, you think the same thing applied to others will work out well too. But sometimes tough love isn't always the key, and hopefully he learned how to be more soft and sensitive. I have a feeling, even though he was acting macho and wearing sunglasses, towards the end he was feeling emotional about the progress, but hiding it. I wish them well on their journey.

I made the mistake of hiring a control freak trainer for my dog. He was a "used" dog when he came to me. He was big and I paid a groomer to do his giant nails and he was fine until a groomer hurt him. I had always done my dog's nails without problems. Ilt got to the point the vet had to put him completely under to cut nails. A bit expensive. It took me awhile to even get him to let me hold his feet. I hired a trainer to help. After several visits at the house, we met at the vet with, I thought, the idea to get him ok with the vet tech and clippers. Trainer insisted he cut the nails. Long and short the dog became agitated and snapped. I suggested we either quit or muzzle. Trainer said no. I was distracting him with food. He snapped at the trainer again. This was a dog who was Never people aggressive. Trainer was po'd the dog snapped. He jumped up and picked the 115 on dog up. (This dog could not be picked up, likely due to poor socializing as a pup) Dog was terrified and screaming. Then he snapped at the trainer and bit him. Darn near took his finger off. The guy needed surgery. I felt awful. After he left to get help, I talked to the vet and the vet tech as I almost had the dog out down then and there. Both emphatically felt it was the trainer's fault for his aggressive reaction to the snapping. The did have to report the dog for the bite. In our county, you get one free bite. Poor pup never got over it no matter how patient I was, I could occasionally nip a nail.
