I understand 100% what you mean. My German Shepherd was not well two weeks ago. I am not ok when he is not ok. Called the vet immediately and thankfully he is fine now. But yes, it comes with a bill. That's why I refused a free puppy recently. My dog is 8 years old now and needs extra care (= extra money) as he becomes older. Here in Nigeria most people don"t care for animals lthe way we do. Some even eat dogs. They don't understand the loyalty and love that dogs give. I left my husband 6 years ago, but my dog and me are still together and he helped me survive that very difficult time. He is the best! ❤ I pray that Betty will recover quickly and I thank you for the way you care for her. ❤❤

Did you never think of getting pet insurance? If not, how do you expect to pay vet fees as you’re on benefits? That’s not responsible behaviour and you’re not looking after your dogs. I hope she gets the right treatment and pls think about rehoming the others.

Hey Gerry I hope Betty gets better. Pyometra is v common in unneutered dogs. It's always cheaper in the long run to get the female neutered as young as possible. Whenever my kids have antibiotics or I do I always save the left overs. First sign of infection in the dog I give them human antibiotics, it's usually amoxicillan which is fine for dogs and people. My whippet got attacked by the neighbours terrier soon as it looked infected I gave them antibiotics saved me a fortune compared to the vet. You need a stockpile of antibiotics if u have unneutered females as its inevitable they will get pyometra. Antibiotics will cure mild pyometra but if its past that I spect they will spay ur female, good luck

You shouldn't have any leftover antibiotics, you are meant to finish the course in full otherwise bacterias are becoming antibiotic resistant.

We had to go to the vets this week it was really upsetting a fractured leg. We couldn't have done it alone really leaned on each other and realised we are quite good together. The odd outburst while driving in heavy traffic but surprised ourselves 😂 i feel sorry for anyone having to go alone it's unthinkable. He was a star carried the dog all over the place. God help us hey. We are more like mates These days, not completely tho, and that works too a bit of space each just in the house, got back on track in the end. I hope you're ok

My Retreiver Daisy nearly died from this had to have everything removed urgh I still remember it it was awful life saving surgery her eyes were like Clement Floyds !! Aw please get well you’re a Dear Dog 🙏

If she doesn’t improve in a day or two get her spayed which is what they do to cure pyometra anyway rather than spending the money on ultrasound, etc.

The wife and I spent $ 550.00 on Cricket that was 17.7 years old and only had weeks to live. I would put that on the card over and over. I never met a dog that lied to me. lol At 65 I trust my wife and I trust myself but I love Maggie the dog and other dogs but people need to be investigated.

Ps she recovered well ! Then she suffered with womb growths which had to be removed further down the line unless you have them spayed early this what I believe happens ! Daisy had the meds antibiotics but after two days no improvement had surgery but Daisy lived to be 12 and half sending lots of love !!! 🙏🙏💫💫

Gero ....( sorry l read you posted she had the op 2 days ago🤔?) if she has a pyometra she needs operating on immediately, my dog had it they don't need to do an ultra sound the just need to do a spay basically clearing out the womb and infection ... ask them if they'll just do the spay and remove everything then carry on with the antibiotics !!! 850 is stupidly expensive, get her a spay and do anti bios she doesn't need an ultra sound with a spay .... its taking the Mickie !!! Yes Sue betty had the op, just a delay will upload the vid today, she still is Groggy and taking meds 5 meds a day at the moment, 850 wasn't the total price it was £4,260, I had to sell my car the only thing I had at this moment to sell, but at least she is saved, he till seem weak

She could have been done as a spay , my dog didn't have a scan no need the vets recognise a pyometra when a dog has one they can tell by the condition of the dog all tell tale signs , my Stafford was done as a spay .... a tiny fraction of what you've been charged !!! Vets have a licence to print money , my rottie girl was done recently as a year and a bit ago and it was 320 ... okay Betty would have needed the antibiotics so you're looking at max 600 quid , but different vets have different ways , but essentially what she's had is a very expensive spay !!! Don't get me in my high horse about vet fees 🤬😡 but what price do you put on a beloved pet? If it was my only option l would have done the same as you and just paid , big huggle to Betty and speedy recovery 🙏 💙 Sue xx

@BlueWaterSue21 Sue, these guys are just too much, it's the most I've ever paid in my life, it was an emergency and they bumped up the price I think, she had an overnight stay at a hospital maybe 300 quid the procedure wax 2,800 quid, I can see why you are angry, I've joined the club now, but as you say Betty is alive and that's priceless for me, still these b*starts are mean 😀

@ it took me a long time to do it, I knew what she was up to, I just had to take my time to do it, it was heartbreaking for me because when I asked her to leave the kids had to go too. The evil are loving this let me tell you, it’s all about separating the families and they are succeeding. It’s the second one that screwed up her brains. There was no talking or love after that. I absolutely hate saying this, but would it not be best to put Betty to sleep. This is based on the fact that she might die anyway. Also the treatment might not work after well over a thousand. This is the biggy however, when you down size, you will have to have space and income to keep 5 dogs? Re-homing is difficult and the RSPCA will put them down anyway. I know you are super close to your dogs, but the countryside is a nasty place and animals and pets are treated differently there.

@Floralee2020 I am not telling Gerald what to do, I am just making options clearer. Because pets are totally dependent on the owner, this does lead to many problems. Gerald has not got the money for treatment, relying on someone else is putting them in a spot also, friendship or being looked on as mean. Betty naturally may well die, that is the way of nature. I have seen so many pets where the owners can't cope that are taken to animal charities. The cute ones get re homed, but alas, many very healthy animals get put down. These animal charities don't want to do this, but they have to.

I think citizens advice bureau can help you with legal concerns. Someone shouldn’t be holding your money but she’s legally your wife so it’s complicated. Pyometra is caused by E.coli is that from the road kill or mould and stale open food in the kitchen? Be careful you all don’t become unwell too this is so sad.

In England & Wales, individuals are separate entities financially despite being married, so as the dogs are his choice it's certainly reasonable that she distance herself from the dogs as far as possible. Pets are a massive liability, and we know at least one of these is considered a danger to others. Hth

It's called estrous. Not a period. Should have been spayed earlier. Allowing then to breed is irresponsible. Proably pyometra. Sell that house already. See a lawyer why is she getting any of it if its you inheritance. Your parents should have done a family trust to protect that money.
