Given that she invoiced customers 11 days after the motion to strike off the company I would have thought action fraud would be interested. It is not like internet scams where people do not know the identity of the scammer.

They might not be linked. Often those strike off notices are put up when companies are late with certain filings.

@@languageoffootball Maybe but she says there was an application to strike off rather than a notice to strike off.

I think the moral of this case is to not pay upfront for a service you haven’t received

Maybe the lesson here is to pay for these type of things by bank transfer or after delivery of the service - My window cleaner, for example - I pay them after they wash the windows by bank transfer.

Is this not a criminal matter as well? At the very least, shouldn't she be reported?

Fraud is criminal and this certainly sounds like fraud.

I think also, you can object to companies house closing the company down. If you explain to them why.

You can indeed. Just need to show that the company owes you money.

When she says they've complained to Companies House, she probably means she's objected to the voluntary strike off. Companies House should certainly do something about that. If a company has debts, you can't just strike it off. You need to appoint an administrator and go through the full process. The administrator would then be responsible for paying everyone and going after the owner if they've pocketed the money. It sounds like thousands of pounds in total, so an administrator should take it pretty seriously. How much you'll get after the administration fees is another question, though. I would report it to the police. If she invoiced people in the name of the company after filing with Companies House to strike off, that's pretty blatant fraud. If the police get a conviction, it is very straightforward to get a compensation order through the criminal court.

Surely if she used her own bank account to run the business then a call to HMRC is in order to make sure she's paid her taxes correctly. Business accounts exist for a reason. There are civil cases, there are criminal cases, and then there are cases that involve cheating on your taxes, and the last one is the one that always seems to get priority.

Business accounts are nothing to do with hmrc, banks force you to use them because they charge for the services. Equally a business account doesn't mean tax is being paid properly.

The point of her using a personal account is that the business wasn't necessarily relating to the limited company. If that's the case then she may be personally liable and can't hide behind the limited company.
