As a bass player and guitarist I'm endlessly fascinated by these videos. It's such a totally different world and very interesting to see this stuff through a new perspective.

man so glad to see you making videos again. Long time follower of yours and bea here. I really dig this kind of video. I'm very interested in practice routines of pros. I would also be interested what your practice routine looked like back in the days when you started drumming. Or maybe what practice looked like during the period you improved the most.

I havent seen a video from Ben in a while. Its awesome to see a video. I would love to see more videos like these. It allows us to see how its like behind your kit with out all the pre recorded and perfect drumming and stuff.

Really enjoying going back over these vids dude. Some great tips and tricks here. You’re a sick drummer. Hope you’re at UK Drum Show in a fortnight. 🤘🥁🔥

Imo leading double bass with the left foot can result in really cool stuff - for example, some of Gene Hoglan's drum parts are impossible to play with right foot lead.

Ben I' curious to know if your drumming was inspired by others like Brann from Mastodon or Gene Hoglan from Strapping Young Lad, Dethklok, Death, Dark Angel etc because of him being open handed to play the drums? I'm interested to know who your influences are.
@BenMinal4 жыл бұрын
Hey there. I hadn't heard of those guys when I started playing open handed, so I wouldn't say that they inspired my style, but they are total beasts and I definitely find their playing inspiring to listen to
@TheStrongBoyz194 жыл бұрын
Fair enough and I find your original open style to be completely versatile and productive which is what I love about your drumming.

Great stuff. Can't say how disappointed I was to hear in your last vid that Dorje is no more. I mean, everyone figured it was over because the 'we've set aside time in December thing' didn't produce anything. Toska is a wonderful platform for the 3 of you to stretch but Dorje had a real shot at a bigger audience. Funny this happened after Rob learned how to sing! Oh well, such is life. Thanks for these.

I do the same routine but I divided it differently I do 8th notes going to 16 and to 32nd notes. I also go sextuplets while I'm at it that way I can feel different subdivisons when I play

I really recommend doing the Benny Greb rythm alphabet with your feet. Especially for working on your weak foot

curious what pedal you're using there, and also what distance you like keeping the beater away from the head. I like this content, especially right now when there's nothing really goin on..cheers!
