Sure. Thought you'd never ask. First met Dillon was he with Joan Biaz and the Rolling Thunder Review and they stayed at the Wacollah Inn near Tallahassee. I chided Bobby at bringing the Rolling Thunder Review along with them. Told him he and Joan were so followed they could have done FSU alone and still filled the place. Dillon looked at me and said but this is all we know....bovine sewage said I you two are gods. Might as well get use to it now. They were and still are last time I checked. And you too. We mere mortals all owe you for the shine on our grings we once walked with gods. Thanks to you. John Baker

Thats amazing. ill be seeing Mr Zimmerman this week, havent seen him live in about 12 years but ive seen quite a bit over the years. my first show, i got my dad to take me to as a kid, and it was the Petty and Heartbreakers tour. I loved it and always dug how he changed the songs, my dad couldnt understand it being more a folkie era dylan fan, lol. you know the old joke is after you see Dylan your date says "it would be lot cooler if he played masters of war (fill in song here)" and you say, "he did, it was just a reggae version in Eb with a new verse"

From 8:27 to 9:12 is a wonderful description of a master songwriter in action. It sounds like Dylan was essentially letting the song direct him, allowing lyrics to flow rather than trying to force the lyrics. In Zen archery there's a thing called aiming without aiming. It sounds like Dylan was doing something like that, only with words instead of arrows.

What a thing to consider! Playing to the mics, being aware. Self balancing and EQ-ing almost! That to me seems so much more real, more organic. A total performance. Not just playing live but really PLAYING your instruments in a dynamic and musical way. Maybe one can argue that you don't actually "hear" this in the recording but I think it makes a difference. And that's not me over romanticizing the process, it's a very real aspect of the final music. I gotta say, I love this. Authenticity is greatly appreciated and needed!!
