What a great project ! I am so impressed that a man would go through all this for his wife. Awesome., Reminds me of my dad ! He used to build all kinds of stuff for our NYC apt. home, He was an ace at building & repairing.

I agree, Blessed to have good men in the family. 💖💖💖 I love the idea of raising chickens. . I live in NYC, & some folks from upstate NY took over a small plot in the lower east side. I passed it every day on my way to school. ( I was doing my post graduate work. ) - They built a small chicken house & had 10 chickens. I watched them grow up / through the weeks & months .. I was surprised & grateful that they did so well. No casualties so far as i could tell, . I had some concerns, bc the chicken house was quite simple, & there was no caretaker at nigh. It was not animal/ with regards to rats coming in, etc. Not was it weatherized so far as I could see. > That winter, NYC was hit w: a major nor’easter that shut down all flights going in or out of NYC. Twice in two weeks time. . - I don’t know how they survived in the little shack on an empty lot ? Perhaps, the owner, moved them to a warmer place during the storm? > It warmed my heart to see them every day - out & about & walking around. > I also recall, there was a peach tree that actually produced fruit. I asked the caretaker if I could have one. And they obliged. It was a real peach .. 🍑 It was a small patch of heaven . > When summer came, the chicken project was over. / I passed by - and they were all gone. - I remember there was a gold sculpture hanging from a tree ... It was a merkkabah: .. Another mystery. . But - I loved seeing it there, spinning in the breeze ...🤩 That was 10 years ago. Enjoy your lovely chickens. 🐣🐥🐓🐓

I’ve seen untelling number of people on here talk about the chicken waterers getting dirty from them pooping in them and then do a rain catchment system and not do a first catch system on it. Worth a thumbs up for for the first catch, no barb poop water for your chickens.

What an awesome finished dream for your chickens 🐓💕! You did a great job Dave 😎. Ali what a neat color palette to make it cute 🥰! The gutter system/ rain ☔️ catching barrel in just genius. Lugging water in the Texas heat would have been a huge job 😳. I’ve never seen a feeder or timed locking door like that. Smart investments👍🏻! Great job to all of you and thank you so much for sharing 💗🤗!

Thanks so much, Kim! So far, they have been a JOY to care for because I don’t have to do much. 😂🤣😂 Just worm them every 3 months, turn over their litter in the coop once a week, fill their food bin every 10 days, turn over their water cups every few days and spoil them with (a responsible amount of) treats. They are so awesome!!!!

Just put chains and hooks for the windows above the ‘truck bed door’, to keep them open when you need them to stay open, so that the wind doesn’t shut them. Great job! Looks great and looks like it will function really well for years to come!

What a really beautiful coop.!! You have such a loving and caring husband, and your son helped also with his creativity and 3D printing. I want my husband to be more creative, but unless it has to do with a vehicle, and or the electrical systems of a vehicle or air-conditioning systems, I am totally out of luck. Yeah, and I decided to go have a look at your channel because I thought that you were going to be another gardening and homesteading channel and I just love those types of channels and what they can teach by example. But when I saw all of your creativeness I got so excited because I also just love all of that too. I watched your February 2022 video and I am sorry you went through such a really awful time with your sweet little bird and your son's appendix scare. I am really glad that everything turned out alright in the end, and I cannot wait to watch more of your videos for scripture inspiration and journaling, and just creativeness (is that a real word??). Best of luck to you always and many Blessings as well. May you always have good health and safety for your family in these uncertain times, and prosperity in all things you do. God Bless ~SuzyJC_05.11.2022~

We purchased the Cottonwood Shanty plans which got us started and then studied the video for all your clever customizations. We also added a roof over the run and a heated "water bar" just like Carolina Coops because we live in the Vancouver area. Thanks to you both we have very HAPPY ladies!!!😊

Your set up looks excellent. when I was a child my Dad would make a nice big chicken house and a big vegetable garden. He would build a chicken run all around the garden, about 2 foot high. The chickens ate all the bugs before they hit the garden. It worked great, Happy hens and a healthy garden ❤.

Beautiful! I want one. One change though: the roosting bars should be round so the chickens can wrap foot around and be more stable. The flat 2x4 is too wide for them to grasp with their feet. Otherwise, I love it!.

This is a beautiful coop. One thing you may want to think about is running electricity to the coop. This is very helpful for a heated waterer in winter (last winter was coldest on record in 30 years for many in the South.) It's also great for using a heat lamp if you were ever to get more chicks in the future or for installing a light to see at night if you ever need to. My husband ran electricity to our coop and I'm so thankful. Thank you for sharing your tour!

Hi there! Thanks so much for watching! In the 11 years I have lived here, a few months ago was the only time I have ever seen frozen water outside. Sadly, there was no electricity for anyone...so electric to the coop wouldn't have helped anyway. Many people lost birds here not so much because of lack of water but because they weren't sheltered. I'm apart of a chicken group for San Antonians and the people that lost the most birds were folks that had open coops. All that to say, I really did try to think of everything, even the odd 32 degree night every couple years which is why I tried to make the coop both breezy and enclosed if needed for those super rare nights. From what everyone has been saying in my group, here in SA we don't have to worry about freezing temps as much as the HOT summers and keeping the ladies cool. 😊

I like the ingenuity with the gutters. Having the 3d printer helps. I built my coop/run and working on the rain catch system now. I used store bought material for the coop and pallet wood for the run. You’re right, it’s expensive now but it’s an investment for us since we sell and eat the eggs. Definitely wish we had a sprayer cuz it takes forever to paint. Love your coop!
