Belts on belts on belts! May be laggy but incredibly fun to ride around on!
@Bast847Ай бұрын
Ah, a sushi belt ^^ This will be glorious, but probably a nightmare to control. I thought of the following problems (some of which may not be problems at all): 1) A singular scanner at one point on the belt may be sufficient. A clustering of items (i.e. a non uniform distribution of the same item) may lead to an overfilling of that item. 2) The belt needs enough capacity to store the possible maximum for every possible item 3) Getting the items off consistently might be a pain with several conveyor belts in parallel (I don't know enough create to know if this works or not) You can look up Factorio sushi belt factories for ideas on how to do this ^^ Edit: I meant "*not* sufficient" in 1) Either use several scanners at different points, or use "signal" items to denote a full circle and then count the number of items in one go-around
@doggos8259Ай бұрын
i sent another version of this comment above, but a lot larger and with a bit more info on how to fix them (there is a way to do the factorio sushi belt counters but it is a little dodgy as it will still count up if nothing is actualy put on the belt unless you make imputs go via a short belt with a reader on it to make it go up omg thats a amazing idea thankyou so much but anyway, also pulling from multiple belts is possible with those tunnel things that to the shuffling of the items, they can have fillters put on them and you can do the whole random thing OR (my choice, the prefer closest thing and then do another shuffling thing after it)
@BenjaminGoldberg1Ай бұрын
Luckily, the mechanical arm can pick up items from within a 5 block radius, much further away than a Factorio inserter.
@Tyrus-jq8qkАй бұрын
Hey Zed! Be mindful that belts can cause a lot of client lag if used in excess. A central loop of belts should be fine, but consider using alternatives like weighted ejectors, trains, and physically moving depots and basins where possible. Of course none of these approaches are perfect, but should help to add variety if nothing else. One last tip, design machines to be turned off, helps with both lag and stress if a machine doesn't run unless it needs to.
@justcallmenessАй бұрын

TIP: You can significantly increase the amount of items on your conveyor loop by "stackifying" them before feeding them onto the conveyor. Just buffer the items into a single block vault or barrel and output them through a brass funnel that is set to output the desired number of items. Btw I've been building a smart factory inspired by your previous series with Tango. It has a warehouse in the centre to store the items in vaults and 2 big loops around it, one for input, one for output. The factory plants are on the outside of the conveyor loops. It works very well, solves a few limitations with Tango's design
@recurvestickerdragonАй бұрын
if you dispense or drop an item onto a belt segment that already contains that item, does it stack? if it contains a different item, does the newly dropped one stay in place or get dragged along while bobbing about?
@garnetalexandros2356Ай бұрын
@@recurvestickerdragon It doesn't stack in my experience, the item sits there until there is a gap in the conveyor. Basically it's best not to fill a conveyor with single items

For your drill setup you can make it place torches every x number of blocks by placing a block that you have x-1 supply of and arent naturally occurring (I use 9 sandstone slabs) and drilling it back up x blocks later, placing your torches somewhere in between, it'll place a torch every time it doesn't have a block in supply which should occur once every 8 blocks. Torches aren't destroyed by drills so it'll be left behind after that. Edit: I did some testing after a reply suggested it had been broken with the update, my numbers are wrong but the idea is the same. With the version used in the video for a gap of X between 2 torches you need to store X of your temporary block and have your drill placed with a gap of X-1 between it and the deployer placing those temporary blocks, the deployer that places torches can go anywhere in between, it's also reccomended to have a 3rd deployer placing cobble or cobbled deepslate a block below the deployers for torches and temporary blocks to ensure the torch has something to be placed on

And every time I agree. You're right! That is way more fun :D Reminds me it's absolutely not about what's most efficient.
@MashuStarАй бұрын
Something you could add to the mining machine is protection from water and lava. I built one quite similar to yours and the lava destroyed one of the rails and it was a huge pain to try and get my very expensive machine back.
@MrBrebbyАй бұрын
Was coming down here to suggest that. If you put deployers behind the outside drills you can make a tunnel system
@braydenthelander1674Ай бұрын
2:08 Whenever I make one of these mining rigs, i use some deployers right behind the initial drills to place blocks where the minecart sits and then around that, then drill the center 2 to make a sort of tunnel to block out any lava it may run through. Tends to work pretty efficiently.

If you ever have trouble balancing your belts, then maybe having your belts be a spiraling loop could help. Like after 1 turn, the exterior lane become the 2nd lane, then after another turn it become the 3rd, then 4th, and then eventually it loops around and becomes the 1st lane again.

I’m sure that you already have it planned, but no mining contraption is ever complete without a portable storage interface! Also, I’m not sure if the redstone makes it faster, but as I recall the drills actually give a minecart contraption a bit of momentum in their direction after they finish breaking a block, so you really only need a normal minecart and a bit of a forwards push at first.
@admiraldestroyer100Ай бұрын
You should add the brass drills on your drill. It is an add-on that gives you more drills that mine faster. The brass drill mines 2 or 3 times as fast. Those containers you used in your building have a lot smaller capacity than the vaults. If I remember correctly, they only hold a stack per block, where as the vaults hold 512 or 2048 per block.

btw for a better way to do you sushi belt design just look at factorio sushi belt playthroughs, and how they use counters to control how much is on a belt at once, you can do that btw (there are multiple ways to do it but probably the easiest would be using multiple create extending piston things (i forgot what they are called) and the best way would be with actual vanilla counters (basically just two dispensers looking into each other, activate one to count up and the other to count down, to make it hold more then 9 stacks, idk, cook i guess, so whenever a item is pulled off you make the counter count down and when one is put on it counts up, and whenever you need more of something on the belt you just use a simple wireless redstone thing to drop one item on the belt (prob use a hopper as a buffer incase the belt has something there already) and make sure you get a reading when ever something comes off the belt, and you need a small buffer (enough so that you cant try to send something onto the belt but not actually send anything) and a farm fast enough to keep it like that, if you have a realy slow farm you can use the repeater thing to force it to wait between drop requests, you can also do a call system like what shalz used, but that could not work if say, something calls for something but something else gets it or if some things call but then end up full and items fill out the belt, the main ways to stop that are loop the belt or to deleate at the end, both with their own problems, but then again my factorio based design could be hard as you would need a permenantly loaded (or always loaded WITH the sushi factory) and setting up ways to reset the counters would be good (reset the belt with it) and if the buffers are empty then ways to stop the counters from requesting items to be dropped, also a counter for the max amount of items would be usefull to stop everything if it reaches max (as that would mean that something else broke as you would ALWAYS need space on the belts, another problem would be pulling, you could always use the item tunnel things to pull from all the belts but that feels like a cheaty choice to me, also you could only pull from the edge, but again, it might take ages for you to get your items, and lastly, i would recomend setting up a way for players to pull items from the belt or a end point that connects to the request system so that there is a easy way to get items without breaking the whole system (yes after typing this all out i have decided that i want to design this system, i will be posting my end build on a create mod server and if you have a discord server (i havent found one yet but ill hope) ill send it there, oki BAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII (sorry for making this so long lol) edit: you could make a easy way to force the counter to only go up when a item is actualy added by having a short belt going onto the main one, but this one with a smart observer to send the count up signal as that would mean that a item is actually being sent

I would love to see a massive mining operation that digs all the way to bedrock and continues to expand its quarry outwards. I just think a quarry would be awesome. I think, maybe, you could do it with a bunch of minecart drillers that go out in a spiral. Imagine you have a machine thats spiralling outwards turning left. It detects when the space to the left of it isnt mined out, and then it turns to its left to mine in that direction. You maybe could get it to detect whether its been there by leaving its rails and seeing if theres rails placed down beside it. Then, when that first one has started spiralling out, you start a second machine one layer down. This one also cleans up the rails of the first one and starts a second spiral within the first. You continue going down until you reach bedrock, and you have a whole series of machines spiralling outwards and digging a giant hole in the earth. Theres almost definitely simpler ways to do it but I think that would look really cool.
