In this episode of building my dream shop, we start the underlayment process and talk thru the reason why we used a roof underlayment, even though we already had LP Weatherlogic Roof Panels. Seriously, never use Ice and Water again...this stuff is awesome

This is by far the best product I have ever seen as you are not only able to apply it to the roof but done the side completely covering the fascia eliminating the chance of rot behind the gutters.

Another advantage to this underlayment is it's 57" width. Being 21" wider you get more area done with each course and less seams than Ice and water shield.

At 90 cents a SQ foot or $422 a roll. I think I'll go with cheaper tried and true tar paper investing the difference and in 40 years when I'm 80 pay to put a new roof on with the invested $. I live in the PNW and properly installed and vented tar paper from the 50's and 60's still looks and preforms well in every remodel I've seen. Not sure but I believe Kyle is planning on an air gap of some sort on this roof.

Fall protection is a nuisance for sure… BUT as it saved me once form serious harm am using it for sure! On BIG tip to a new user… pull up your harness tight high up in to cross…. Think … dropping 25 feet down and then your harness will catch you by you shifting down thigh! In the harness…. For the guys… guess what in the way first when your full weight hits the straps in your cross 🤬 learned the hard way to secure the harness right….😮

GREAT stuff. It occurs to me another advantage of the ability to pull it up and re-set if it isn't right or has an unwelcome overlap or sticks to itself is this: While you'd never of course do this kind of work on a VERY windy day, the occasional small unexpected gust is the kind of thing that seems to ALWAYS make such products do those "sticks-to-itself" tricks and with THIS, you just pull it up and go again. Not just more convenient, but less waste. Excellent! AND I no sooner typed this than that gust when you were on the peak made my point (Smile.)

Definitely a great idea to put down this membrane since the weather logic has but a thin coating of material to make it water resistant. This membrane is likely 10 times thicker than the super thin spray coating on weather logic and the last thing you need is wet OSB sheets on your roof !
