I'm buying a used 225 like that next week and, while I see this was a year or so ago, but I'm sick to my stomach for you right now. Like Lee Iococca said, it doesn't matter what happens in life. I just saw your video today of the first assembly of the 240-gallon table and then I was hooked on seeing the 225G one, until this video arrived, only with the image that you put with all the pain you felt at that moment, it's true, nobody wants to go through that , but here you show that you have the courage to face it and apart from the possible criticisms that surely are never lacking, your objective was to publish it so that the rest of us who love this beautiful hobby can learn and prevent any possible accident at home where we have our things and our children they are our treasure. a big hug my friend from Lima Perú 🙋♂🙋♂

Man the same thing happened to my 225 gallon tank over 20 years ago. Only difference, my bottom piece of glass cracked all the way across. I was home when it happened, sounded like a gun being fired. It happened after a year of being setup in the same spot. I believe the culprit was the stand as well. Good luck man we really enjoy your videos.

Thanks for sharing, the timing is perfect. I have a custom 210 gallon rimless being built, not cheap, and I'm going to be building the stand in order to save money. I hadn't considered the importance of having it perfectly level. This will certainly help with my design.
@TheFishCorner3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! I appreciate your feedback and support! It really wasn’t the fact it wasn’t level, it was the screw protruding and pushing into the trim. I’m sure you’ll secure the mat to the stand by other means other than screws. I knew better too, I was just exhausted so I got lazy and the crack was the end result. So if you get tired, take a break and come back fresh. Don’t work through it if you’re feeling like cutting corners... 🧠

It’s okay, thank you for that! And good, that was the idea, preventing others from making the same mistake. One recommendation though, if you’re not putting an acrylic tank on that stand, don’t use a mat. Glass tanks don’t need it. But it’s entirely up to you obviously. Good luck!
@albertranson29173 жыл бұрын
Hang in there buddy. You have the right attitude. Believe me I’ve made MANY MANY mistakes over the years with my aquariums. Years ago I had a 240 gallon glass aquarium setup with a red belly pacu who at the time was almost 9 years old and about 30 inches long. I knew for a very long time he had outgrown this 24 inch wide tank. He struggled to turn around for a few years. I knew he needed a bigger tank but I just kept putting it off. I woke up one early morning to the sound of gushing water. The seam had separated on the back left corner of the tank. So of course I panicked. I took the pacu out of the tank with a large towel. He weighed at least 30 plus pounds. Boy was that a challenge getting him out. He plopped out of my arms falling about 5 feet into a 2 foot deep plastic container. Water was everywhere. To make a long story short, I’m ashamed to say I took him to a nearby river and released him. I so regret that. He was my buddy fish for almost 9 years. Come to find out, the tank had no crack. It just needed a reseal in the back left corner. I fixed the tank in about 2 hours. My poor pacu probably died in the cold river water. I also had 2 large silver arowanas, a lungfish, and a large leopard plecostomus I donated to the local fish store. If I had been patient, I would still have all my fish back in the tank. Have you thought about replacing that back section of glass? I replaced one on a sump for the first time. It wasn’t as hard as I thought. Anyway I enjoy your videos and keep persevering.
@TheFishCorner3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing your story Albert! I’m sorry to hear about your Pacu and all your fish! That was hard to read, I can tell it’s still a sore topic. I have some stories on fish situations that makes me feel the exact same way. The key is to live and learn. With this incident I’m at least able to share my mistake and lesson with whoever chooses to watch. In hopes of preventing others from making the same mistake. You definitely have me thinking... idk if I’ll try replacing the back piece of glass..maybe I’ll use it when I build a plywood aquarium when we move into a house....nonetheless it will serve a purpose so it’s not a total loss. 👍🏾👍🏾
@albertranson29173 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishCorner Like I said earlier, I had never replaced a section of glass before. Even though it was on a sump, I’m glad I made the effort. The funny part is I watched a few KZbin videos before I attempted it. I have faith in you to replace that glass. You seem like a very smart and intuitive man who is very hands on. Give it a try. You may surprise yourself. I wish you could see my 4 tank setup. It’s all plumbed with pvc pipes to send water to five 275 gallon containers to my backyard. It’s also plumbed to send fresh water back into my tanks. I also have separate submersible pumps in each tank setup for water changes and separate pumps setup in each 275 gallon tote tank. It saves me so much time doing water changes. The 275 gallon totes are plumbed to send water to my wife’s plants trees and garden. I think I mentioned that to you a while back. Anyway glad to hear from you again. You seem like a very nice person who has tons of patience in the fish hobby. Looking forward to many more of your adventures. Take care.

I'm happy you shared this. This has been my worry with setting up my saltwater aquarium. I just bought a 75 gallon and I want to have some contingencies for water damage just in case the aquarium cracks. I was thinking about adding a metal plate with a lip underneath it that can hold water and having a large capacity Shop-Vac on hand. I don't want to take the chance of ruining my rental property floors. Besides that I've read some negative reviews on aqueon 75 gallon tanks cracking. I've even read that I can add my own bead of silicone to reinforce it.

Researching and thinking about getting an aquarium going. And shit like this is what I needed to see man. Not to scare me off but because now I know that tanks have to be level. That's not even something I've thought about. No one has mentioned it in a "Beginners How to" yet. Something I have to be aware of as someone who's never done this is the "dangers" of it all and how to fix them should the worst happen. So I appreciate you sharing this even though you may find it embarrassing.
@TheFishCorner2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for commenting. I really appreciate your feedback. There’s so many things that we as fish keepers learn firsthand, KZbin has made it easy for us to learn from others mistakes. So regardless of how embarrassing I felt when this happened, I didn’t want someone else to go through it. Your comment reinforces this video being helpful. To elaborate more on the flaw of the stand, it wasn’t necessarily the uneven stand, it was the screw I used to secure the foam mat I didn’t need for a glass tank with trim, that cracked the tank. An uneven tank can make any side of the aquarium blow out from water pressure though. If you have any questions that will help you transition into a fish keeper, don’t hesitate to ask. This hobby is worth the money spent on it.

@@TheFishCorner thanks for the reply I actually have a bunch of questions. 1. Someone is offering to give me a large amount of coral skeleton. It's all dead. Been sitting in his garage. Free. But what's the best way to prep it to use it? 2. Due to the tank I got the best way for me to get setup is a cannister filter. I've found if they aren't maintained they become nitrate factories. But I haven't seen a vid yet on how to maintain them. Do I just rince them out with soap and water? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? 3. Is coral and reef something different? I probably have more but I can't think of right now. I don't suppose youd be cool with me emailing some questions I may think of? I actually have a 55 gallon tank and the funds to get started. Thank you bro! I appreciate your feedback and support! You’re right, bad $hit happens to all of us, it’s definitely much easier to hide it, especially on the internet but I think helping others learn from a mistake I made is definitely a better way of doing things. Thank you again for your comment bro! 💯

Feel for you man, but thanks for all your videos and passion. I'm so getting started. question if you have time. I know it's been asked loads on forums and stuff, but what's your view on an all in one like a red sea e led 170 or 250 as my first tank. You seem to be one of few that says basic equipment can work. :)
@TheFishCorner3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate that brother! I think an all in one fish tank will be solid bro. Just don’t over stock it. You want coral as well? And yes, it could be really basic as long as it’s fish and clean up crew only. The corals will make the tank high tech... but I still refuse to be too high tech with it. 😂
@c3dpo3 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishCorner I appreciate the reply mate. Ideally mixed reef, would take it super slow as your earlier vids suggest. Decent clean up crew etc. i used to run a tropical tank and it was well balanced and healthy so 🤞 Also, good luck with channel from your earliest vids till latest you've come a long way! 🤜

This hobby has it's ups and down's. Things like this are going to happen. If you can endure it and stay in the hobby, then you truly love it. The good outweighs the bad imo🤷🏾♂️. Bad thing is the bad gets expensive as 🤬 lol. Great video. I am subbed in...stay 💪🏾

Thank you bro. I really appreciate you subscribing and being supportive. You’re absolutely right there’s ups and downs yet the good outweigh the bad. And I can’t be mad at a teaching lesson. First time I’ve seen your videos. Sorry for the tragedy. First I love your optimism. I paint the two smaller sides and the back of my tanks black to ease up on algae. For your filtration system on that 225 what did you use? I saw that draining thing on the back. How’s the noise? I had something like that on my 40 Breeder saltwater. It was so loud I drained the tank just enough to move it and I moved it from my bedroom to the living room. Do you have any saltwater with coral and reef safe fish?
@TheFishCorner3 жыл бұрын
Thanks bro. I originally had a black film on the back of my tank but it cracked. When I replaced it and got it back up and running I forgot to put the film back up. So I said F**k it. As for filtration, I’m using a sump; fx4 and HOB filter for surface water agitation. It’s loud bro, but all my tanks are. I actually like the sound, it’s kinda relaxing and let’s me know everything is still working. I have a 37 gallon with reef safe fish but no reef yet. Lol

Damnnnn so sorry to hear that happen:( I just binged few of your vids two days ago and when I saw you install this one I was wondering if the yoga mats would be enough for the bottom to be balanced since I heard it needs to be super leveled & flat surface to be okay but thankfully everyone is ok and we live and learn know for next time 🙏🏽

Thanks for sharing. Yes, embarrassment could have stopped you from putting this out. Now I understand why some companies won't warranty the tank unless you purchase the stand. I saw the build video and wondered if the foam was going to work. Ooh, just saw the screw. Sucks, but a total rebuild is not necessary

Really feel for you just went through this on one of my 30 gallon tanks. Luckily I saved the corals. The real bummer it was in my bedroom with carpet. My room has smelled like a stinky tide pool for a month!! ☹️ You are handling this really well a inspiration to others. Thanks for sharing the ups and downs of our hobby!
@TheFishCorner3 жыл бұрын
Thank you again for your comment! It’s a real pain when this happened! You know what I had to do? Shampoo the carpet’s twice. I mean for hours to get them fully cleaned and smelling good, then they had to fully dry with industrial fans. Now the carpets are better than they were before. 💪🏾💪🏾 I hope that will help you with your situation, thank you again for your support! 🍻🍻

Man that effing sucks! I'm sorry to hear that man! When you build stands for aquariums.... Or furniture.... Always countersink the screws. It looks better and you avoid injury, or in this case damage. Man that sucks! I'm sorry to hear that. P. S. It was the puffer that ate the fish. Puffers are super aggressive hunters.
@TheFishCorner3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment bro. I completely agree with you about countersinking the screws but I was trying to hold down the mat... couldn’t countersink the screws. I shouldn’t have used the mat at all.... And naw, it was the Titan triggerfish. He’s very aggressive, my pufferfish is harmless. The gentle giant in the tank. He wouldn’t kill or attack any other fish. I’m sure of it.

So did u ever really figure out wht it was? Or was it really the stand? Witch is in your opinion your best stand? I want to build one and need advice
@TheFishCorner2 жыл бұрын
What’s up Big Red, yea I found out what the issue was in the video. It was the screw head pushing into the trim.. The main mistake was having lowes cut the wood. Then rushing the process being over confident. My very first stand build was my best stand build. No mistakes and no issues at all, it’s holding my 240 gallon. Building an aquarium is so easy bro, I will never buy another aquarium stand. Before building my stand, I watched a bunch of videos, I calculated the full weight of the aquarium and decided I wanted it to hold 4x the full aquarium weight. So this required 2x6’s and plywood. I bought the cheapest plywood with the best grain pattern because I wanted to burn my stand…. Other than that, I drew out my design and just had fun with it.

Omg I would cry if this happen to me... I just set up a red sea reefer 350...id be so sad if I wake up to this. Just to under stand... The problem was that the tank had a nasty pressure point above the screw? So the screw was sticking out a little? The aquarium place a lot of pressure on the screw... Causing the crack?
@TheFishCorner3 жыл бұрын
Chances are you’re Red Sea reefer will be fine. Probably bought the stand with the tank etc... and you’re absolutely correct, the issue was because of a screw pushing into the trim causing it to crack.
