I bought oil, a filter and both washers, for both bolts to do my 500 mile oil change (you said 600, and i was told 500,..??). Ducati dealership said i'd have to bring the bike in to have a light re-set (i'll be checking to see if i can do that myself as well).
@myhypermotard83514 жыл бұрын
I have read on many Ducati forums and also ben told by my Ducati mechanic, it is at 600 miles. The light comes on a little over 600 miles, about 625 or so. I highly recommend that they do this fist service. It’s not just the oil they change, they go over the entire bike to make sure everything is as it should be.
@Ronix8054 жыл бұрын
@@myhypermotard8351 Oh ok, well i'll do it at 600 then. I am very comfortable, and confident in doing my own services and inspections of my bike. Don't let the words "Ducati" scare you into always taking it to the dealership.

I know someone who when they took it back , the dealer found that one of the front fork seals was leaking, something that he hadn’t even noticed. Perfect reason to take it in . He got it fixed right away. All these brand new moving parts and sometimes things go bad from the factory.
@Ronix8054 жыл бұрын
@@myhypermotard8351 Nope, you're right and i totally agree. No matter what you buy that's brand new, shit still goes bad on them. I guess it comes down to how mechanically inclined you are. I have never (knock on wood) took a new vehicle of any kind, into the dealership and had them find something i didn't already know of. I just don't care to pay some guy shop rates to look at things and tighten things, that I already know how to do. Same with my cars and trucks. Again, just depends on how mechanically inclined you are. To bad you're way down in SoCal, i'm not having any luck finding hypermotards to ride with up here in NorCal. :/ And i'm too old to be trying to keep up with the young guys on sportbikes that wanna do 100+ mph everywhere. I cheated death enough in my life already lol.

you know Im probably as careful about machinery as you are, true still not a bad idea to half fill the filter. You might find this interesting. Im using a 0w-40 in my air cooled Ducati dry clutch 904cc. This is fully synthetic Castrol titanium edge made in Germany About 9$ per quart. I live in Seattle where temps are not high when I ride. I believe you need very light viscosity at cold startup. A 0w-40 is somewhat new to most people as it really is more of a true 20-30 weight somewhere in the middle. I dont need addatives as it would for the dry clutch over a wet clutch. The way I look at it is, changing the oil more frequently is preferable to do so when it breaks down the viscosity thats needed and wont denegrate . So I have the best of both worlds since the addative they tell us that a 0w really becomes a 40w at full temp, but for how long ? My my newer Mazda Miata requires 0w-20, that must be that with tight tollerances and high compression, they want that super thin oil to move its way through the engine like water. I know you must keep that low viscosity oil somewhat fresh with 3-4 k oil change intervals strictly adhered to. Now for an air cooled Ducati. they mention 15w-50, I guess in a hotter climate that just fine, but that Motoul cost is so high. What do you think is the true weight of that oil with only the modifiers bringing it up to the full 50w at temp ? maybe 30w ? and when it denigrates , what does the viscosity at temp turn into ? So far so good with this 0w-40 , I dont race around at speed anymore, and the Germans dont make cheap stuff. This Castrol was meant for BMW and Mercedes. Some Castrol titanium edge oils dont say made in Germany or Belgium. Just something to think about. When you do alot of research, they let some judge make the legal decision, that as long as a synthetic oil is called full synthetic, all it really needs to be called that is somewhere between 10-20 % synthetic ingredients. Maybe they mean esters. A real good synthetic I believe is the Amzoil product.
@myhypermotard83514 жыл бұрын
Man, you really do some research.. That’s how crazy informed I like to be as well. Great info, thank you for that, really appreciate the research you put into this..
@hugot124 жыл бұрын
my thoughts on filling oil filter with some oil. You do believe your engine parts dont really drain off all the oil film on them right ? Next, how fast do you think oil is pumped through the filter once the engine is started, maybe one second ? Do you believe the internals are bone dry or still lubricated, unless you previously dis assembled the whole engine and took solvent to rinse down any oil film left on all parts ? Im 64 and owned about 46 motorcycles , loss count of how many cars also. Rebuilt my own engine in bikes and cars. So I see the wear on these engines and never saw bearing or ring wear caused be any engine starved for oil deprivation during the after oil change procedure. Just something to consider.
@myhypermotard83514 жыл бұрын
I never really thought about it that way. It just makes me feel better filling the filter with some oil, something I have been doing for years on cars. It doesn’t hurt either way. Thank you for commenting, ride safe.
@hoytem3792 жыл бұрын
@@myhypermotard8351 I would caution against filling the filter simply because the oil, even though it's new has not been filtered. It could have plastic contaminants from the bottling process or other foreign debris. If you were dead set on priming the filter I would fill through the holes bordering the outer edge rather than the center. Just my opinion
@failranch9542Ай бұрын
I say prefill the filter if you can. That’s what I was always taught and I never had an issue. However, it was pointed out to me that some modern vehicles place the filter nearly upside down (Chrysler Pentastar for example) which makes that old method impossible. This made me rethink the importance of doing it.

When I got back the oil light was on and I leaned the bike and couldn’t see any oil in the gas eye. Do you have any suggestions on what it could be? Is it from maybe the slip on?
