Royal Crown Cola and I go back years and years. Growing up in deep southern Ohio, that was the cola of choice for all us country boys. Back in my youth, it came in cans (not aluminum like today) and we'd bury those cans at the bottom of the cooler and let them get super cold. Ice cold RC Cola and Moon Pies while kicked back on the river bank catching Channel and Blue Catfish. Great memories.

I live in a place where we have no trees to speak of (the Mojave Desert). So, I for one, do enjoy your travels as I get to see the scenery that you take for granted. All those trees growing around you just blows my mind. Not say'n I'd live there ever as the desert grew on me 50 years ago and I just planted my roots right here (pun intended).

Don't ever think some logs are too small to saw. I've been drooling over a lot of the wood I've watched you saw and I only need 22" long pieces for electric guitar tops!! Some of the crotch walnut you've sawed? Oh man!!! Small logs can be worth it if what is inside is nice :) Just a thought. Love the videos!

Every week I see trees bulldozed into piles and burned, because its quicker and cheaper. I want to cry. I spent a lot of my misspent youth with a chainsaw in my hand,. My dad taught me to read a tree, I can’t same I always put a tree down perfectly, but I got enough to win bets more times than I lost. But I never spent much time at the sawmill. I just remember how big that blade was. This was the old days. When I watch you I want to run out and buy a mill. I can almost smell the wood. Thanks for the memories.

@iwginc2877

Yes. Take a 4x8 piece of 1 inch plywood and secure the north and south end of the log with a 2x4 secured by screws to the plywood. Then get a couple of your first cut boards that look like a half moon then debark them and they will make wedges on the east and west sides an secure with wood screws.

I've seen where you get a good number of comments from people that don't saw stuff up, have no interest in actually ever being involved in sawing stuff up, or even that have much of an interest in it. I considered early on BEING one of those commenters and to just tell you how much I enjoyed your even tone, great video quality, interesting content, brilliant talents and how you are so down to earth and honest, it makes a person want to know you, to consider you a friend. I DIDN'T comment like that because others had, and I didn't wanna just sound like some bird brain with nothing better to do. Well....................chirp, chirp! You're an inspiration...............and for those of us that don't saw stuff up, I mean that in the best possible way. A kind word, a simple understanding of being a decent person, and enjoying what interests a person to the fullest. I thank you for your videos, your musical choices, your words of decency. You could go old school and find a timber hand saw and rip on the cold snowy days. Would keep you warm for sure. I used a two man saw when I was you and they cut fast when sharp. Either way Nathan, I like the logistics work. The backbone blue collar effort behind your work. Now, as far as the small log, personally, I don't have a lathe to make bowls. So, I would set the chainsaw mill and make small table tops or use as inlay pieces to enhance a larger table project. Good gouge on the free stuff!!!

I would use that short log for charcuterie boards. Make a jig to hold the log on the mill and slice it into boards. I think this was a great format.

On the short log, you need to make a tempory cradle out of regular boards you have so it will fit the platform for the sawmill as seen on Linda's Sawmill Cinema... Now do you have a call for wood this size if not then be happy that people use bowls and plates and spoons, religious cross, big salad tongs, frames for pictures, letter opens, table lamps bases, platforms for trophies, handles for fireplace tong and other tools, gun stocks and revolver handles, and the list goes forever as Walnut wood is a prise in its self for everything.... You are one lucky Sawyer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a tape in your hand, you have to test it...it's in the same rule as testing a pair of tongs before you use them. Don't fight it man! I like the Vlog format, BTW

You should make some kind of jig so you can saw it on mill then make 5/4 slabs and they will make beautiful serving trays or cutting boards!

Sandwich that short one between a couple of long-enough off-cuts secured with torx screws in safe spots (should only take a couple on each side of the sandwich boards). A few sizing cuts and you should have a real gem for slabbing. I also like your idea for turning blanks. Looking good OTW!!

Mill the small log into maybe 5/4. Linda's saw mill vlog just did one on milling small cherry logs, they supported them with boards. The small one would be great for night stands or end tables.

Hi Mr Woods sorry you didn't give your name. I like all of your videos so far. Your knowledge and excitement about good quality hardwood for the most part logs. And the way you transmit that through the medium of KZbin has people like me who are not in your field subscribing. As for the suggestion on what to do with the 2 ft log I agree with the comments below mine side table slabs for the living room or bedroom side cabinets. Thank you for the content.

Nathan, when you're building furniture, you often need pieces 15-24" long. Go ahead and mill that 23 incher 5/4 as it will have crotch figure too. Or it can be bench leg stock at 9/4. To hold it on the mill , just use a piece of 3/4" plywood 4' long and maybe 12" wide (whatever will work best to support these type of short logs) Screw a rail to the backside ( like some sticker stock or a piece of 1x1). This jig will support the log underneath, span two cross bars, and go up against the short stops. You want to position the log up against one of your tall backstops. Get it stable and mill a couple boards off. Then flip it and it will be more stable and go up against your screwed on rail. Then mill it the rest of the way. You should get some good crotch figured pieces.

Great video! Can't wait to see those logs! I know what you mean about the tape measure. Its why I can't do bids with certain types of pens. Hard to talk to somebody when your non stop clicking. Hope you get some video of ya running that box blade.
