While it is sad seeing many companies let go of skilled labour, this is also a learning lesson for many people to look out for themselves. Prioritise that emergency fund, don't resign if you don't have 3 months' salary in savings, always be on the lookout for market trends, keep skills up to date. I am an Engineer and still focused on skilling up.

It makes sense the hired a bunch of SE and now they get to use that salary as a write off for the next 5 years in taxes, now they can fire a majority and still get a tax benefit.

Very scandalous but also smart move for employers
@empiregoneАй бұрын
You might need only 1 or 2 senior devs NOW, but what happens to your company when they leave? Without other developers working with the codebases, that company will be in a difficult situation.

This isnt just software, I work at one of America's largest refinery for sugar. We fired the "library of knowledge" and now production is down and no one knows what their doing including me.

Engineers wouldn't be replaced by AI but management would try and that's the problem. Their stack on the work for the more Sr professionals and company rock stars. That's what will happen as IT doesn't have a Union to fall back on.

I've been a computer systems engineer for almost 20 years. Once you set up a patch panel, or a switch or router on a companies floor, you'd rarely need to touch that cabling again. Systems can be networked on your patched work for decades. With VLANs, you don't need a human to set that up or even maintain them. Assuring people that humans are always necessary based on that example is really just a poor example.

It all depends, my friend. But I understand what you're informing.

No, it's not. You're only selling courses. But the stress is super high, jobs are rare, 5 rounds of interviews with 100 competitors. And wages plummeted. Ai is replacing 4 of 5 engineers, because you can be so much faster with it.
@bestopinion9257Ай бұрын
Now the speed development depends on the senior only because AI does its part of the job quickly. A senior do not wait for work of 4 juniors. But you always can hire more seniors for more work done in the same amount of time. So basically the bar is higher now for software engineers. If you think you are a good engineer and no one hire you then you can make your own company.
@juiceytechАй бұрын
Well said
@juiceytechАй бұрын
Artificial intelligence will definitely replay the four out of five engineers.
@ForChiddlersАй бұрын
@@bestopinion9257 the bar would be higher if code quality would be a criterium. But you can do with some interns these days. So watch out for real low pay.

Junior, intermediate, seniors, principal its just a title and don't mean shit
@BelleMorueАй бұрын
The big issue is only to pay for. I externally everything and never pay taxes that is the secret of success. I hope you find a good job with a lot of income taxes for me and my free services. The most important is not to be laying off or not but make so much money that you can do everything and never go in jails with people who write biography about your genius as often as you believe this is true.

What kind of software do your engineers make?
@juiceytechАй бұрын
In-house software. It's pretty cool actually.
@bestopinion9257Ай бұрын
AI will not replace human completely just because we humans will not let all control to AI. But AI will change the field in a way that less and less humans are required.

I agree with you

Not sure that anyone is safe. I'm aerospace engineer and I wonder if all STEM folks are cooked. Maybe not in the next 5 years, but probably in the next 20. Times are changing, though a lot of the scare is economic right now, not due to AI. Aerospace is booming at the moment, but I still wouldn't bet on it. Even if we don't "eliminate" jobs, I think the number of people who are "needed" will be less. They'll be more efficient, but I'm not sure the market cap will grow proportionally. Hopefully my gut feeling is wrong.
