Hello friends! While the days are ticking away towards the official start to spring, I have been preparing our self proclaimed cottage...one room at a time...for the upcoming season. After decorating the adjoining kitchen last week, naturally I turned my attention next to the dining room. In this weeks video, I am taking a thrifted sheet and repurposing it into a sweet, cottage style tablecloth, making some simple spring wreaths for our dining chairs, potting a new houseplant...and so much more. So cozy up with your favorite beverage and settle in as we decorate our cottage style dining room for spring.
If this is your first time visitng my channel, welcome! My name is Carin and creating a beautiful, cozy home for my little family of 4 is my love language. I love to take y'all along with me as I do diy projects, both big and small, and of course decorate. One of the first things you should know is that family heirlooms grace nearly every room of our home. In this dining room you will see my grandma's hutch and her dining room table as well as the caned back chairs that were a wedding present to my parents from my grandparents... and it is my absolute honor to be the caretaker of these pieces.
Over the last couple of years I have also developed a love for thrifting, and our home is now filled with the some of the most amazing treasures. My favorite being a swan candleholder that you will see later in the video.
My design influences are vast as well. I love colonial, European farmhouse and cottage style...just to name a few and I'm trying my best to weave a bit of all of them into the fabric of our home.

Hi Carin! The plate collection over the hutch looks amazing and just right there. Planning by using paper templates saves a lot of angst and time; thanks for showing. The fern may be happier on the island in the kitchen-as you know, heat rises and it is a drier atmosphere. Spritzing the fronds daily in the sink should also help keep it happy. Hi Janice!! I am so pleased with the plates over the hutch! I finally figured out what works. I moved the fern to the island table and have been spritzing the fronds. Thank you for the suggestion. A picture shouldn't be that difficult, use a simple nail, very small....if it's a large, large, heavy picture find a stud, use a hook or nail according to weight.

I only used a screw because the only nails I had left were finishing nails (that don’t have a thick head on them) and I was afraid it might end up slipping off the finishing nail if the garage door got closed too hard, which happens sometimes. Thank you so much for watching!

Beautiful dress. Everything looks so nice. I think your plant would like something a bit deeper. I put a plastic pot with rocks in a vessel then place my pot on that. Then I add water to the plastic dish. My ferns like to soak the water from the roots instead of on top.
