My English Bulldog Has A Life Threatening Health Issue

My youngest English Bulldog Leo has a life threatening health issue and there isn't anything that will make him better. He has right sided heart failure and my wife and I are terribly sad.. He is getting worse everyday and you can see in this video he is not his old happy self. We are not sure how much longer he will be around but we are so grateful we have got to spend the last 7 years raising him.

I went through this with my 14.5 year old Boston Terrier. After starting the laysics he lasted 6 months. He was a trooper through the whole ordeal though. It's been 5 months and I can't tell you how much it still hurts. My thoughts and prayers are with you/family and Leo.

My wife and I had to put down our 10 year old bulldog in June. It was unexpected, and one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, and still hard not to hear his loud ass snoring at night. Leo is lucky to have caring people there to love and take care of him.

Poor Leo! It’s so incredibly hard to be in this position but one thing you and Lisa can focus on is that you guys are the best pet parents ever and that he’s had the best life he ever could hope for. I know it doesn’t help the situation now, but try to realize how amazing of a life you guys have been able to give him. I’m so sorry Scotty and Lisa. Every animal has its own way of communicating. He just told you he's in pain. You gave him the best life you could as long as he had life. This is not a life any more. The longer you try to hold on to what's gone, the worse it will be when you let go. You already know what to do.

My one dog Rusty had congestive heart failure, and was in the doggy icu a few separate times because his oxygen kept dropping. They told us initially he had at the most 6 months to live, but he lived for almost 2 more years after that. I know it’s hard but as long as you keep up with his medication hopefully you guys can keep him comfortable ❤️. Thinking of you guys!

Scott, I am so very sorry to hear about Leo 😢 I feel your pain. Pets are family. I had a Shi tzuh who had cancer. The cancer ate half of her jaw and she lost nearly all her teeth. On 1 November (3 days after her birthday), the vet said it was time so we put her to sleep. I cried so hard. It was heartbreaking watching her take her last breath. My prayers are with you, your family and precious Leo 🙏❤️.

wow thank you for posting this. i’m a bull dog mom and first when you were talking and just instinctively moved the cushion because you felt Leo wanting to lay down…i get it!! i’m so sorry that Leo reacted to his uncomfortable state with your hand there….they are THE BEST 💕💕💕💕…you and your wife are amazing and so loving and your right…you have to do what’s best for the babies …UGH so hard!!! my Zeus is my first dog …my son had to put his Bulldog Tyson down and hearing my son SOB! on the way to the vet…they were best friends but he put him down and said goodbye and i was SO proud of him. ugh so so hard..my best to you and your family🙏

I have 5 dogs currently and 2 of them are 2 years older than the average Chocolate Lab and its sad to know that at any minute they could pass away. I've had many pets that have passed away and it's just so sad, I definitely feel for you and I hope you enjoy your time with your dog for the time being. 🙏

My heart goes out to you Lisa and Leo. Right sided heart failure can be treated with medications and Leo could live for a very long time. His lifestyle would be more sedentary of course and in my opinion he has too much weight on his frame. That makes it hard for the heart to pump. My name is Lisa and at the tender age of 21 years old I was diagnosed with a viral cardiomyopathy that left me with the left-sided heart failure. It was very hard the first 20 years as my condition would deteriorate and then stabilize but when I turned 53 years old I went in for my annual echocardiogram and blood work and lo and behold my heart is pumping better than it has since I got sick. I have to moderate my physical activity but I live a Wonderful Life and I'm so very grateful to God. My point of me telling you my story is I don't see why dogs couldn't be treated the same and lifestyle changes along with diet I would think would give Leo and many of these beautiful bully dogs long happy lives. I'm 20 and have a 15 year old Chihuahua, about a 1 ago his heart started to beat in triplets, I don't remember what the problem is called, but there is 3 stages. He went from being fine to stage 3 over night. He has been on medication ever sense, I know he doesn't have a lot of time left and it will be hard to lose him because don't have many memories without him there. I understand how hard it is to see you best friend/pet go through stuff like that. Good luck to you all, hope he live without hurting and/or being uncomfortable until that tragic day comes.

Well this is the sad truth with English bulldogs, they are riddled with health issues, and the amount of breeders that don’t health test there dogs is another issue. If u buy a bulldog it’s going to have health problems point blank

They are product of inbreeding, adopt a mutt from a shelter they are likely to have better genetics and less health issues. Still very sorry to see scotty going through losing his pet, but bulldogs are indeed problematic

Scotty, I remember two years ago I came across your Daily routine video with all your bulldogs. From that moment I knew I wanted a bulldog and after months of searching I ended up driving hours to pick up my bulldog who I named Okja. Once the pandemic started my girlfriend and I bought another bulldog who we named Maka. Just like Leo we thought Okja would live forever, but in July she suffered from a seizure she couldn’t recover from. It’s been hell since she passed, but like you said all the memories are what keep us smiling and happy! You and your bulldog family inspired me to ride, and inspired me to get a dog that became family and changed my life. Thank you Scotty, thank you Leo, thank you Clarence & Thank you Chunk❤️

Thanks for sharing Scotty, we really appreciate your human side. We had the same issue with our 16yr old cat Oreo this May. He developed fluid around his lungs, extremely heavy breathing, and grew aggresdive due to his dismfort. It wasn't easy saying goodbye at the vet with our 8yr old. What really helped was to think about the quality of life he had. Oreo couldn't have been happier. He used to sit by us on the steps, hear the neighbor's door open, then run over to them for treats. The neighbor would exclsim, "thanks for taking care of our cat" when he was really our cat and stayed safely inside 80% of the time and received great love & care. We can still picture him laying in the grass in the sun watching birds and butterflies contemplating what to do next. It's hard letting go Scotty, but although we want to keep them forever, sometimes the best thing we can do is give them back into the arms of the one who gave them to us. Listen to your heart, let it guide you, we're right here with you like family. Lotsa love & prayers to you all!
