hi, bookflowers! today, i am delighted to share with you my entire classics collection! this collection consists of all the classic books that I have collected over the years (80 books total)! this video mainly just showcases the books that I own, but I do interject with my own thoughts and experiences with some of the books.

Can't believe you fit all of those into a video under 10 minutes! Phew! I took a Critical Theory class in college where we picked apart The Great Gatsby to pieces. I haven't picked it up since then for fear of flashbacks 🙃 I also distinctly reading Washington Square for my Gothic Lit class. Everyone hated it, but I remember reading it when my wisdom teeth were pulled out. I liked it.

helllloooo, friend. :) yeah, i had to do that too, but then the first book I ever taught was Gatsby and it just relit my fire for the story, let me tell you! I loved Washington Square! It's the type of slow-moving, disappointing story that somehow really gets me going haha. you're awesome and thank you for you sweet comments

Classics are the most beautiful books of them all!!! Haha those editions are gorgeous I was kind of drooling 🤤 I also really love Sherlock Holmes! I’m also filled with paperbacks because they’re really inexpensive and I will love them forever! You need some Oscar Wilde girl! 😆

i totally understand that! a lot of times i look at my books and am tempted to drool all over them! oh my gosh, you're so right about Oscar Wilde! I have read The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Earnest, but those were school books so I couldn't keep them :( your comments are always so lovely, and I appreciate you SO much, bookflower :)

Such gorgeous books! I haven't read a lot of classics but i'm slowly getting into them. My favorite is Frankenstein and I have a few editions of it because I love it so much.

Oh girl, you know it's serious when you pull out the Constitution of the USA, haha! I loved getting to see your classics collection, I grew up surrounded by classics so it made me so happy! Also, would you mind a lil' pointer about your audio sound? As your intro progresses into you speaking again, I'd really like it if the music got quieter than what it is now. At times, it was nearly level with the volume of your voice and I found that somewhat distracting. I hope you're okay with my suggesting this, and if not, I apologise for dumping unsolicited advice/opinions on you!

I love the barns and noble editions! I need to read a lot more classics! I have i large collection and haven’t read many at all. Lol love your Shakespeare editions! I love Shakespeare but I still have no idea what’s going on I like consuming the stories in the modern English. Lol

I was gonna ask if you've read them! im definitely going to be trying out some other classics really soon, especially Jane Austen! Little Women is also on my list although the size is a bit intimidating😅 watching the movies right after reading the classics is definitely a fun thing to do! And yes! I have the same Jane Austen collection - it’s so pretty! But I have other copies of her books because the collection is quite heavy. 😄 Ooh, I really like your copy of Peter Pan. I have a copy where the cover art looks like it was drawn with chalk - I spent a while looking for a copy of Peter Pan that I really liked since the story is so special.

isn't it lovely? :) yes, i also have the mass-market paperbacks for most of her books because I have to sit that book down on a flat surface to read and it's simply not practical haha! my edition is the Barnes and Noble Children's Hardcover edition if you'd like to try to find it. :) the edition you have seems pretty though! i love the story as well. do you feel like you relate more to Wendy or Peter Pan or neither?

I'm sure my Complete Shakespeare collection is a Barnes and Noble Hardback and it's beautiful! As I usually like to read horror, fantasy and science fiction, buy I was pleasantly surprised how many of these novels that I have either read or want to get. I’m really trying to get into classics. I’ve got 2 books of Jane Austen. However I struggle to read them because I find the language unbearable boring. hi, sandy! :) i always feel like a good classic to get started with is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnette. It is a children's story, but honestly, it's more of a timeless story that could be good for anyone. The language isn't too difficult and it's so beautiful. BUT, if you're in the mood for something joyful and sweet than I really recommend Little Women by Louisa May Alcott! The language is really simple, there is a lot of dialogue and action, and it's just so heart-warming and delightful!

yay! okay, if i remember correctly, we both really like contemporary, right? so, of course I have to recommend Little Women to you. Even though it's old (lol) it feels contemporary because the language is really accessible and it revolves heavily on characters and their relationships to one another. if you've read that one, the same is also true about To Kill a Mockingbird! The Secret Garden also would be a good place to start (the language is a bit more elevated and dense, but besides that it reads more modern). OH MY GOSH! Rebecca! Rebecca fits everything I said above and also has shocking twists! I hope some of these help! :)

I'd like to read Treasure Island and I'm really hesitant to read The Great Gatsby because the movie sucked in my opinion and I fear I'd constantly remember the scenes from it while reading the novel instead of forming my own images. The Great Gatsby however taught to never watch a film based on a classical novel without reading the novel first (unless it's made by Kubrick).

soneasf YES! Let’s please talk about this! First- it is just so like traditionally a hero adventure story! And it’s so very predictable.

@@kristinandherbooks 100% its's just so generic, and I understand this is one of the first written stories that was originally a spoken story only passed down orally from generation to generation. But reading it in a modern world, there are just so many high fantasies that take what Beowolf offered and just kept expanding it and making it even better, and even more flushed out with world building.
