Hi Nigel, your citrus needs a basic to acidic pH in the substrate and the yellow leaves are probably due to an iron deficiency. Get some liquid iron chelate, it comes in a bright red colour, and apply it with the watering once a week until the leaves regain their colour. Good luck!

You could try to cross-pollinate your aloes and make your own hybrids! Maybe not necessarily bonsai content, but I would be very interested in that

34:05 hi im brazilian, pitanga is fruit tree native from brazil and some countries near by, it produces a small fruit shapped like a reddish orange pumpkin. It's quite common to use it to make bonsai here.

i found citrus hard to grow in fuller's earth, and it might be due to the pH being too high. (citrus like acidic soil; in basic soil they can struggle to take up some of the nutrients in fertilizer.) i wonder if something like a lava rock mix would be better? some citrus fertilizers also have a pH adjustment so that could be something to look at as well.

Pitanga is native to my country and region, from Brasil. It's fruits are edible and very appreciated, they are sour and sweet, full of C vitamin. Great for bonsai since the leaves are small and the fruit are berry sized. Some species have hairs under the leaves that may cause irritation to the skin, check for that.

Wow they are gorgeous! I found your account from your thanksgiving and Christmas cacti video and it was super interesting! I was wondering however if you have any videos just about the basics of bonsai? Maybe starting a new bonsai…i know they take years to grow but in general I’d like to know some of the general concepts from you! Thanks again your videos are very informative

Try some Chelated Iron for the yellowing citrus leaves. The limestone, alkaline soil base in your area makes the water too alkaline and locks out any available iron. You can get Chelated iron in powdered form, dilute in water and apply it to the soil or the on the foliage.

you can create some nice hybrids if you cross pollinate them. you could use a fine paintbrush or some cat whiskers to transfer pollen from the one to the other

When I saw that you called this a Euphorbia video it reminded me of a time when you had a Poinsettia. since I haven't seen anything on it in quite a while. I would assume it is dead. Did you ever thing about getting another? If at this point you don't want any more trees, I will understand.

I’ve read an interesting article on the web that looks at different kinds of yellowing on leaves and the causes of these. I’ll paste it here if I find it again. In the meantime I know citrus are voracious feeders and need fertiliser 4 times a year compared to other trees that I fertilise once a year
@growclipbonsaiforseniors1951Ай бұрын
Citrus need a more acid based soil. Try citrus fertilizer. That is why your leaves are turning yellow from my experience.

Not sure about citrus trees, but I will say that I have a few trees with yellowing leaves (not fall color). From what I’ve been reading we had a really wet summer and it’s probably nutrient deficiency due to the wetness. It’s also possible that the soil isn’t acidic enough. Citrus definitely don’t like alkaline soil.

i just read the chinese privet is not hardy and should be brought in when it's below 5°C. and it's an evergreen too. because you said you prune it when it has lost its leaves.. they are also sold as "indoor" bonsai everywhere.

Leaves Are Yellow In Winter - As a general rule, lemon trees prefer a warm subtropical climate, but will still grow in cooler climates if sheltered from cold winds and cold winter conditions. When the tree is cold, its roots are unable to absorb enough nutrients to keep the leaves green, and in turn go yellow

Your lemons \ citrues are doing bad this year too ? mine too,, all of them pretty much,, on the other hand,, this year is super for apples and plums. in Norway we call good years like this "plum year" or "apple year" ,,, maybe citrus trees also have "they'r year" Many things in nature are complicated ,, like how cicada's go 13 year under ground. Lemon trees like moist air, maybe it have something to do with "el nino" , the weather phenomenon.
