Every team that's in the Semi Finals deserves to be there, they might not play fast open fluid football we all like to watch but saying they don't deserve to be there is harsh, France has seen off Portugal and Belgium, Holland have seen off a very dangerous Turkish side, England has come from the jaws of defeat twice and against a very well drilled Swiss team who was minutes away from beating Germany in the group stage. Spain has played the best football but that doesn't mean they deserve to win, i look at Arsenal in the Wenger era that played beautiful football and lost the league multiple times to Utd, a team that just knew how to win games and that's all that matters. Not once have i heard anyone mention Portugal and how they scraped by in 2016 and won the tournament, they didn't even win any group games and that's because no one remembers how tournaments are won just who wins them

My motivation to watch football is how crazy attackers break defenses to score goals that I’ll watch and rewatch over and over. If that means, I don’t understand ball, so be it. I appreciate you're a relative newbie to football but if you knew your history you would know that Italy and Germany have made their histories on playing poorly yet winning tournaments. Meanwhile flair teams like Holland and (until 2008-2012_ Spain have historically been been great to watch yet fail. England used to be like Holland and Spain (70, 86, 90, 96, 98 an with the golden generation of 04-14) but now they're doing what the Germans and Italians have done and its paying off.

No one sees the point of Bergwijn because no one looks at the defensive balance of the team when they look at the strikers performance. But the coach does. Playing Memphis + Weghorst is more risky defensively, as you need to play a much more aggressive style for that to make sense. A style of play you'd chose when you're 1-0 behind in the 2nd half of a KO game, but not from the start. Of course it looks good offensively but look at the opportunities Turkey got in this phase, it could very easily have gone to 2-0. On top of that, VVD and Ake had to take a yellow to break a dangerous counter attack in this phase. You can't play like that from the start. Between Bergwijn or Malen, of course Malen has been more successful this tournament but his strength is in speed and scoring ability, using the space behind the defense, whereas Bergwijn is better at playing between the lines and setting up opportunities against a compact defending team. They are pretty different in their qualities. I'd say Malen is especially good when you're already ahead and you want to use the space the opponent has to leave behind their defense (as we saw against Romania). Starting Bergwijn makes total sense to me, even though you'd hope he performs a little better than he did against Turkey (he was playing well against Romania until he got injured by a hard tackle).
