She broke up with me about a month and a half ago. Since then we been constantly texting each other and met up a few times, under the basis of “friends”. However, I came to realize that my feelings for her were just too strong. She was happy with whatever that we had, which was a “text-only friendship”. I guess she was confused with her decision to break up with me and she just wanted someone to continue to be there for her; showing her care and concern. What about my feelings? The heartache, the misery, the confusion; just to name a few. I couldn’t take it and I told her that as much as I wish to be her friend, I wasn’t ready until I could face her without having any expectations or hope. We both love each other. I love her, I love her with all my heart and I will always love her. However she wasn’t ready to fight for me-for us. She wanted to learn “self-love” and better herself, and she wanted to do all of these by herself. It felt like my heart was broken into a million pieces... I guess what I am saying is, letting someone go doesn’t mean that you stop loving them..sometimes you let them go so that both of you can heal in peace. mine wanted to be friends. i've always never settled for less because that's not what i want. she wanted to be friends, i wanted more. a week later i did try to be friends but i ended up liking her again. i quickly realized it's impossible to be friends with someone you want to be romantically involved with. i would just end up hurting myself over and over. that really isn't fair to be friends when you put so much time and effort into someone. it's the worst feeling in the world besides the break up. you actually see how much you are worth to them when they just shove you in the corner.

Hey Coach. My ex not only reached out with a direct contact after a few indirects but two days ago told me she still loved me, missed me, and wanted to see me. She told me that she had tried to date and no one had measured up the quality of man I was when we were together. She told me she was attracted to me because my capability to love. She even reminisced and got in the shower and talked to me on speaker phone like we used to in the mornings. I was in No Contact for almost 7 months and it was pure hell. In that time, I have watched 381 of your videos to this point, I got a local therapist, read 86 books on self improvement, relationships, and attachment styles, along with meditating. I would say I have done pretty good on getting better. I will also say that every single thing you teach in your videos has occurred exactly as you said it would. EVERYTHING! I know it is still early now that she has made contact and the hard work is too just begin but I believe with everything thing in me that if not my ex I will make a great partner for whomever enters my life again.

This is very similar to what happened with my ex with the monkey branching and her wanting to maintain a friendship because she didn't want me to "think I didn't matter to her." I think in many of these instances, as you pointed out, they want to keep you as a back up plan, but also to lessen the guilt they feel over their choice to entertain offers from other people, then ultimately acting upon them. It's a manipulation tactic they use to let themselves off the hook while gently phasing you out of their life for good. No bueno my friends, best to sever ties completely, unfriend and block.

Your ex will not spare you the details of their new romantic escapades and, because the offer of friendship is almost always manipulative and inauthentic, hearing those details from an ex you still want romantically will cause endless fear and loathing. It's best to just move on with your life.

rebita chanu It really depends upon his agenda. If he just misses you and wants to see you once in awhile for whatever reason (e.g. To assuage guilt; to create envy or need; to satisfy doubts) then it's probably not in your best interests to "hang out" particularly if it's in a group setting. But if he wants to meet with you privately and casually without the pressure of a relationship it might be a good opportunity for you to make your intentions clear and gauge his interest. It's possible he thinks he made a mistake. However, if you do choose this path you should at least have an email session with Coach to be prepared for it. Good luck.

My ex came back after 7 months for my birthday. She wished me happy birthday and asked to meet up since she had a t-shirt. I saw this as an indirect direct approach. So i went with it and accepted the meetup. Not even 20 minutes into the meetup she states that she now also like women and whished to pursue things with a women. I was confused as hell since i didnt talk about relationships or anything. and after that she stated that she just wanted me to know that. I just tried to make it a fun meetup, yet after she stated that she just wanted to be friends, which i had declined twice in the past. My ex and I met up today after 7-weeks since she broke up with me. Our meet up today went well. Despite me trying to not focus on the break-up, she took the conversation that way. I found out that she is due to get a hysterectomy in a couple of weeks to stop her cancer from spreading and she is quite devastated about it as she's always wanted, children. I felt that she was being honest and she was in tears a couple of times while talking about her health. She has said that while she is dealing with health issues that she can only offer friendship. I could tell that she still cares and she even stated that if it wasn't for her health, we wouldn't have broken up. I do want to support her in her health battle and since she feels that I didn't show my emotions and affection enough during the relationship, I don't want her thinking that I'm just walking away. That sounded pretty rough mate. Hope things are better for all involved now. May I ask why you wanted to contact your ex's partner? I always feel that would be crossing a line and unless that person was in any danger then it would be best to leave them to figure things out for themselves. Even as revenge I doubt it would bring me any pleasure if all I wanted is my ex partner back, though I can see why some people might be tempted to warn their ex's new partner of certain traits and behaviours. But I find that my traits and behaviours can be very different depending on the relationship I'm in. I would have thought that you contacting her bf would trigger feelings and resentment that would make co-parenting very difficult. How did you overcome that?

This one confuses me, becauase we shouldn't be their friend, but if they reach out we shouldn't ignore them. So when they reach out 9 times and we are answering them because we are told to not ignore them, but to them they are thinking we are being friends and cool with eachother. So how do you know what to do here? My ex started reaching out after 2 months, about every 5 days, sending friendly surface level messages, then saying he misses me as a person, telling me he bought me a gift. But never stepping up to see me or connect in a romantic way. I put myself in the position to let him think it's ok to reach out when he feels like it. Now I HAVE to stop answering him becauase he was friend zoning me. Now I'm in no contact again but in a worse position because if he reaches out again I feel I shouldn't respond anymore. How about his ex, turned into his friend, was there from the beginning of our dating. She contacted him and my ex texted her back. I became insecure and didn’t like the situation, so I talked to him. Hi craig, Me and my ex had an ugly terribly breakup in jan and we started talking again in March and had a relationship that had no commitment cause she doesn’t want any commitment but we cared about each other. We made a deal to have a clean cut in March because she’s having an exchange to Japan. OK so... I saw my ex of 5 years on a party last weekend... We hadn't spoken in months... (he broke up with me, never fought or had any arguments but he basically is in a sort of quarterlife crisis or so it seems). It actually went surprisingly well. He is very conflict-avoidant and confrontation-avoidant, but when he saw me he said hi and hugged me. I was surprised. We talked and laughed some. It went better than I had expected. After that, I texted him to ask him to play a game with me we used to play together. He replied by saying he was afraid that I was having 'false expectations', that he still supports the choice he had made to break up and didn't want to get my hopes up. That, if I was expecting anything other than just a platonic meeting, it wouldn't be a good idea for the time being. I replied that I didn't expect anything but that I am really curious how he is doing now etc. Then he said he was just worried about that, but that we could catch up in a while, since we haven't spoken in a long time. I actually really don't expect anything, I can hope for something in the future maybe, but I'm not expecting anything from him at this moment and don't want to force him into anything other than just having a good time and catching up. I do hope I won't die on the inside, or leave feeling sad... But there's only one way to find out. I am happy we can catch up, that might make the magic that's arround this elusive man of who I keep asking myself how the fuck he is doing now, fade a little bit. Also, he can see that he doesn't have to be afraid that I will jump on his dick the second he says 'Hi' to me, lol. So I have no idea if this is a good idea or what I'm putting myself into, but what's life without taking risks?... Lol.. Also, when he left me he was still crazy about me... I don't think his love for me will ever be completely gone, although he will probably never admit that. My Mom and Dad split up back in 2014 I was pretty devastated that year my 2014 was a mess. my dad lives with somebody else but they're not merred though I think they're like couples. I live with my mom. But moving to new houses was painful it was a new change. But I'm better now I'm used to this house now. Yeah if you have kids you could stay friends you for the kids. A A I am not doing fine to be frank. I have recently come to know that he has moved in with a new girl and has been staying with her since February and has even taken her to a family vacation to Florida with his parents and brothers in March. Now I understand the reason why he has me blocked on his phone for over a month. He doesn’t know that I know that he has moved in with a new girl. I asked him couple of times to take his stuff from my home but he always gives one or other excuse to not to come. My ex and I met up today after 7-weeks since she broke up with me. Our meet up today went well. Despite me trying to not focus on the break-up, she took the conversation that way. I found out that she is due to get a hysterectomy in a couple of weeks to stop her cancer from spreading and she is quite devastated about it as she's always wanted, children. I felt that she was being honest and she was in tears a couple of times while talking about her health. She has said that while she is dealing with health issues that she can only offer friendship. I could tell that she still cares and she even stated that if it wasn't for her health, we wouldn't have broken up. I do want to support her in her health battle and since she feels that I didn't show my emotions and affection enough during the relationship, I don't want her thinking that I'm just walking away. Should I accept friendship to support her in this?

This is a late reply from me and I hope you are in a better place now. Even in that situation you shouldn’t be friends. You obviously want more and you should keep suffering for her because she has to undergo treatment? She doesn’t want to face the consequences of the breakup If she really wanted to be with you, she would make it work
