I think a gap year is very important after leaving high school so that you just sit down and think about what you want to do from there, research and gather as much information as you can about opportunities available to you, weigh in your options and what works for you, but also keeping in mind that none of it will take too much of your time to live and breathe and that it also does not mess up your mind. I too major in mathematics and stats, then swapped stats for computer science. I must say, It is crap and I am through. Now I am just ready to start over somewhere else. "The sun will rise and we will try again" ☀️

Absolutely true, gap year is very important. Get all the other stuff like a license and passport while you discover who you are and what interests you and have researched enough. So I 100% agree.

We learn through experience, and we should appreciate the problems we face cause they wake us up, I was not a fan of research but last year I found out what was suitable for me because of the challenges I faced at varsity. I've been doing Comp and Electronics engineering at ukzn, it's been hell, this year is my final year but I'll take a break to focus on project codeX, we think code or get a software development learnership.

Hi Nobantu, I hope you well. I am currently a student at UP, pursuing a BSc in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science. I must admit, however, that I am facing considerable difficulties in my studies. While I have performed admirably in all of my computer science modules, both in practical applications and theoretical concepts, however, a failure in one module could lead to my exclusion from the university because I chose not to do Stats and Physics/Chemistry as my electives. Frankly, the challenges I am facing in mathematics have been quite overwhelming. As I write this message, I am preparing for two supplementary mathematics exams scheduled for this week. Although I am putting forth my utmost effort, I cannot deny that I have no desire to pass these exams. It may sound amusing, but my passion for mathematics and school has been greatly diminished by my experience at this university. Paradoxically, I am hoping for exclusion as the most suitable solution, given the financial implications associated with my bursary. Deregistering would necessitate repayment, making exclusion a more logical outcome since it would not be entirely of my own volition. On a more positive note, I wanted to inform you that I recently applied to WTC and successfully completed the test/exam required for admission to their bootcamp. This achievement occurred a mere two days ago. I have also enrolled in their six-day bootcamp, which is scheduled to commence in 2 weeks' time. Although I possess significant programming experience, I intend to approach the bootcamp with a beginner's mindset, ready to learn and absorb knowledge anew. Please wish me luck!. #RoadToWTCGraduate

Most people who get into computer Science even though they may not admit they have some background in programming whether VBA or Scratch. But once you understand programming you'll enjoy it😅 I began playing with programming using Scratch for kids, then VBA, Java, Python then settled for R programming since I'm in the field of Actuarial Science dominated by data science.
