I could honestly cry…. Watching this is like a literal mirror! I’m currently on progestin only and I’ve been on the pill for YEARS! I’ve gone through so many different types and after YEARS of so many symptoms & side effects. Watching this makes me feel seen and like it’s time to give myself a break! I too feel so broken. So so so so broken, I typed into KZbin coming of the pill, this came up and I’m so glad I gave it a watch. I think it’s time after a shit tone of health scares.. 🙏🏼💖

As a guy, thank you for being so open and helping me to understand what may be contributing to my partners headaches and loss of libido. she decided of her own accord to stop taking the pill due to headaches and potential other complications and I have opted to have a vasectomy to help make her life simpler. Thank YOU for helping make it simpler for me to understand some of the underlying issues.

Aw Amelia! That video brought a tear to my eye! I had no idea things had improved so much for you since coming off the pill. That’s such a positive thing to be able to share with people! Because you’re absolutely right - so many of us gals end up staying decades on the pill just because it’s the ‘easiest’ form of contraception - easiest for the guys at least who on the whole, do expect us to go on the pill after being in a relationship with us for a certain amount of time. Which when you think of it, isn’t fair at all. Doctors, too, are far too quick to prescribe the pill to young women with acne. I was put on it for that exact reason too by my GP when I was only 14 and I stayed on it long after my skin had cleared up as a method of contraception. But thinking back, I realise that it wasn’t great at all - it encouraged me to have unsafe sex with my boyfriends much earlier on in relationships than I would have chosen to, simply because boyfriends quickly found out I was taking the pill and so immediately wanted to stop using condoms - which as a girl on the pill I thought I kind of owed them. Never did I say, right, if you want to stop using condoms with me then we both get screened for STDs first - at least not until I met my ex-husband in my late 20s and had the courage to stand up for myself and make that request, and I’m sure many other women are the same. It’s not safe to go and put young teenage girls on the pill because a) it makes condom-less sex all that harder to refuse, and b) it encourages them to practice unsafe sex. I feel quite angry now that I was put on the pill so young. It should be used as a very much last resort option for acne and the GP should strongly recommend young women to come off it as soon as their acne has cleared up. Problem is, so often by the time the acne has cleared up, the young woman then has a boyfriend so doesn’t want to come off it for that reason! But a far bigger fuss should be made by GPs who should insist that the pill NOT be used as a form of contraception until a young woman is in a long term relationship and both parties have been tested for STDs. With AIDS still very much around, it should all be taken so much more seriously, IMO. Anyway, I think it’s fab that you’re so open and matter-of-fact about the whole business and I’m sure you’ll be encouraging loads of women to stop poisoning themselves with these contraceptive drugs and rediscover their natural flow! And I’m so glad you’ve noticed such a positive difference in yourself. It makes perfect sense though - none of us can be healthIER from taking a chemical powerful enough to stop our periods every single day of our lives! xx

I appreciate your input, as a man I cant fully understand what you ladies go through. I began researching hormone balance and its relation to depression when my wife who has been on birth control for ten years began showing signs of it. She was having trouble even getting the motivation to get up in the morning this concerned me and I started looking at things I could do to help her out. Going off birth control was the first and best option I could find so I encouraged her to do it. Its been three emotional weeks and she would laugh at me if she knew I was studying her this closely but much of her daily anxiety seems to be nearly gone and her ability to talk about things that would normally cause her to cry without her even understanding why are very rare. I think it will be a good thing for both of us. Honestly I had no clue what she went through on birth control, I wish I had known earlier because I would have taken more personal responsibility.

I can't thank you enough for this video!!! This video was kind of an impromptu search in between studying for my exams. I'm recently off Cerazette and waiting for my periods to return. I've taken Cerazette for the past 8 months but combination pill before that for many years. Why I started taking pills is that it was suggested to me by the doctor straight away. No other contraceptive was introduced. And me being a teenager, not bothering to do some research on my own, just went with it. It cleared out my skin which was great. Occasional headache hear and there until I started getting migraines, which is why I started using progestogen-only pills. I'm not in a relationship at the moment but not having periods still makes me think I might be pregnant :D Also my skin has gotten worse - breakouts around the chin area. But what struck a chord with me the most in this video is me thinking for the longest time (about 10 years as you) that I'm broken, I'm asexual, I'm wrong etc. for just not wanting to have sex. My libido was just so low, which also dragged down my self esteem. I've been off the pill since Christmas but I can feel such a huge change already. I'm at my heaviest weight (thanks corona :D ), usually in my pajamas with messy hair, because school is online and there's nowhere else to go, but yet I don't feel unwanted or unattractive for once in my life. I don't feel useless and days are not spent in a brain fog or just lost on a headache. Definitely the right choice. Let's spread the message!!

This video has helped me so much. I dealt with extremely painful periods for years and at 24 decided enough was enough. I couldn't have the combined pill due to migraines so was given cerelle. I always thought things would get better. After year 1 my periods basically stopped. The second year was the worst. Zero libido, dryness, depression, anxiety. I was so low I felt like I was heading for a breakdown. At the start of September I just stopped taking it. It's been 4 weeks and I feel hormonal, sore boobs, cramps and back pain but hoping to have my withdrawal bleed soon. I am learning to be patient with my body. I blamed myself for so many tears, wasted days crying and arguing with loved ones. I 100% was not myself and had started to have no interest in anything. I feel as though a numbness has lifted since stopping and hope things get better from here. I believed there was something wrong with me too, I love my partner and think he is gorgeous but had no interest in sex. I blamed myself for being a bad girlfriend but couldn't explain why I was struggling! Onwards and upwards xx

This video has made me feel so much better by discussing low libido. I’ve been in my relationship for 2 and a bit years now, and my first sexual experience was with my boyfriend. After 2 months together I went on the mini pill so it’s been 2 years now. I’ve really been struggling up to this day about having such low libido, and it’s caused me to think there’s something wrong with me and has made me question my relationship with my boyfriend before which is heartbreaking. A few days ago I broke down about it, so this video had come at the perfect time. 2 years on this pill is nothing in comparison to your 10 years, but I’m really considering coming off it, to do it for myself x

Apologies for the long post. Very late to this, I’ve just come off cerazette, I’ve been on contraception since I was 15, I’m now 22. I initially started with the implant, and did not get on with it at all, I bled for the whole 2 years apart from when the doctors prescribed the rigevidon pill on top of the implant. I continued to take rigevidon until I had a heart scare when I was 17. I’ve taken cerazette since I was 18 with no to limited periods, however I’ve had a spotting type period for the last 4 weeks, so I’ve made the decision fully supported by my amazing boyfriend of 8 years to come off the pill and sort my body out again. Just found this video as my doctor changed me to cerazette around 6 months ago after reporting aura migraines. I wasn't sure if it was cerazette or lockdown #3 for my moods, and my massive spots I've had I thought are these masks plus hormones taking ages to adapt! And the bloating, well... I had a few days off and felt better whilst I couldn't get to a pharmacy and felt better! After coming across this video whilst researching this has solidified my decision! Thanks for posting this, Amelia...I have been struggling with a lot of these issues (weight, mood, libido) and like you I have been blaming myself. I have been on birth control for 20 years...over the past year I started to research as to whether or not these issues could be due to my birth control so asked my doctor about coming off - she said she didn't recommend it because if the pill is working (for preventing pregnancy) then "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" sort of mentality, even though I had this itch in my ear telling me I should try to come off to see how my body responds. I now have a new GP who has given me other options to think about...but I am weirdly terrified to try something else only because I have been on this form for so long...eek! I'm sorry that you went through all this crap for 10 years while on the pill - but I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one having dealt with these issues! It's oddly comforting to know that other women have experienced these same side effects, and it's empowering to know that you have been able to take control of those issues. Thank you :)

I really wish we were better informed about these side effects so we’re able to make a real choice. I certainly felt railroaded into staying on the pill every time I raised concerns xax

@@xameliaxKZbin me too! I had never considered other forms of birth control because I was always told that the pill was the best... I'm 34 and only just now have been informed that that information is actually incorrect. Love how you talk about the female body, my vagina is a queen!! 😄 I came off cerezette in Nov for similar reasons to you, it was nice to hear someone else say it ☺️ I am older than you at 38 and been on some form of pill since 14 so that might be why i still haven't had a proper period yet. My boobs are sore (like reeeeally sore) every couple of weeks 😫but my skin isn't randomly flaring up like it was before and it's just nice not to have to take a pill everyday 🙂

I'm so glad my video helped :) It can take a while for your cycle to come back. Maybe book in for a check up with your GP and have a chat if you feel it might be helpful - I thin they say if there's been no bleed between 4-6 months, but the advice might have changed a little since I last looked :) The boob pain was REAL in that first month! wow! But I found it did settle down xax

Tysm for the video!! I was prescribed the pill for PCOD for a duration of 3 months. I'm already a patient of stomach issues and this causes me so much bloating, heartburn and nausea. Can't sleep at night and makes me vomit everyday. Can't wait to get rid of it.

Great video :) I came off cerezette in March last year after a long time too. Didn't really think I'd been affected till i went back on for about 6 weeks over the summer. Not only did I have reeeaaalllly sore boobs, but it messed my mood up big time. Even my bf noticed how low I got. Came straight back off and so much happier. My inner geek is loving the fact the flo app is really accurate too and love tracking ha ha 🤣

♥️ that's it....I'm going back to the drs to see what else is out there for heavy periods! I got referred to a gynaecologist but got fobbed off there saying that my only option is the pill, I've been on it since I was 14 (for acne) and only really been off it for having children, but I'm sick of pumping my body full if hormones. You've really inspired me to take control of my body x

It can certainly have its plus points to help with irregularities in periods etc but it’s not always the only option. That period power book really helps explain a lot of this and it’s so interesting!xax

It’s can take months for your body to adjust after coming off the pill my love so try not to stress. But please do go see your doctor if you feel like you need support. There’s no shame in therapy or taking anti depressants to balance things out xax

From the video and what I see in the comments, I'm so glad that I'm not alone with what I went through while on the pill. The biggest thing for me was depression and never genuinely laughing at ANYTHING for 8 years. I got off it and I'm happy to say that my face gets tired from smiling and laughing so much. Oh, and my discharge went from always being green and yellow to what it should actually look like. Positives all around. The worst part about coming off it was the surge of hormones that my body felt again. I dealt with severe headaches with my first two cycles and have been perfectly fine since.

Hey just want to thank you so much for this video I came across. I've come off cerzette 4 days ago. I was on it almost 3 years and I'm sick of the constant bloat. I suffer with an anxiety disorder and have been clinically depressed and in hospital 10 years ago. I've been worried that coming off cerzette might make my mood worse but it seems that it could be the opposite from all I have researched. As it doesn't contain oestrogen it makes sense that it may even help mood to come off cerzette. My mood is fine and has been but the bloat has to go. I've also put on 2 stone in 2 years. I'm looking forward to feeling less bloated and things to return to normal cycle wise xx

I’m watching this after coming off the same pill after 10 years! Been off for a month and a bit now. One thing I couldn’t believe was from the pill was that the whole time I was on it, I never got the proper hunger signals! My body told me if I wasn’t eating I was so hungry and made me feel extremely faint if I wasn’t eating at least once every two hours. I gained a few stone from this. I’ve come off and suddenly feel completely different! I now don’t need to eat constantly and I feel full when I’ve eaten. Such a random side effect I’d not even thought being from the pill.
