"drill sergeants are petty" lmao I just did my basic at Fort Sill and our female drill sergeant straight up told us "i'm petty as hell so don't piss me off!" hahaha! they aren't that bad though, once we got into white phase they toned down a lot and were pretty chill unless we did something really stupid then they would get after us again. But like you said it really isn't that bad, I felt like if you just take it one day at a time it made it go by a lot faster, reception took forever but then once you get rolling it is graduation time before you know it. Stay positive and just push yourself (without getting hurt lol)

The best way I can describe a Drill Sergeant is by telling you what my Drill Sergeant had told me. "Private, we have 13 weeks to take a street punk and turn him into a Soldier that has a chance of surviving if sent to Combat after Basic, we can't do that being nice and holding your hand." Mind you, he didn't say that to me until AFTER Graduation. 🤣

@@keshanalangdon1178 no its completely random. The 1-1-1 isnt till have you get to your training not reception. Generally they push reserves and national guard first and you have to make sure you have all your readiness done, i.e. hearing, vision, finance, ect.

Bravo Battery 1/19, 2016. MAN, I miss Fort Chill, my Home Sweet Home! Did you have DS Stoner and.. DS Griffin in the Reception Battalion? Or are they no longer there? Haha. DS Stoner was my boy, and I got the autograph of the Female DS from the Blue Book. Bravo Battery 1/19 was aces. For some reason, 3rd Platoon's head DS really seemed to like me, despite me not being in his Platoon. I got DS Plaisance, and man, she scared the crap outta me. A short woman with a strong Louisiana accent. Mad love and respect for her, though. Congrats on finishing Fort Sill! It's.. an experience I wish I could repeat. FOB Kelly, the Gas Chamber with the Asian female sergeant with the big teeth, the Chow Hall, the Battalion Run, hell, even fleecing the Battalion. It was the life.

I graduated at Fort Sill in July 1987. 1/33 F.A. Fox Trot Second Platoon. I was 20 yrs old at that time. Our Drill Sgts were Terrors back then. They cursed at you, called you names, kicked your Duffle Bags, if your Black Boots didn't shine, you got an earful, During wake up, if you were still in bed, you went Airborne. One time I remember when we were standing in formation, my Drill Sgt was venting about something and then He said, "All you F__king Privates know is Chow and Pay Day." I couldn't hold the laughter in. He said, "Oh, Badger you think that Shit is funny? Drop." Aside from that, we had a good time. When our Drill Sgt issued us passes, He would say, "You all gonna come back with an STD." Good luck to all of you young cats out there.

Going through Basic Training in 2019-2021?? You all had/have it EASY!!! I went through Basic and AIT at Ft. Sill in December 1983 - March 1984. When the bus stopped the driver said "Welcome to Hell", the Doors opened, on walked a pissed off looking guy wearing a "Smokey the Bear" hat. He looked around and screamed "You have 10 seconds to get yourselves and your gear OFF OF MY BUS, and 6 of them are already gone!!!" From that point until Graduation it was almost non stop screaming, insults, threats. I actually miss it 😂 The only thing I would not want to do again EVER is the Gas Chamber.... anyone that experienced it knows what I'm talking about. All in all it was over 13 weeks of Hell that I'd do all over again if they'd let me. Helped make me the Man I am today, made some Friendships that lasted to this day (I'm STILL in contact with almost EVERY guy I went through Basic with), and taught me discipline. These days.... Do they have you still do 10-20 mile road marches in full "Battle Gear" (about 120 lbs. of gear in my day)? Is it still common to have 3 Drill Sergeants 3" from your face screaming at you for even the most trivial mistake? I wonder how Basic at Ft Sill in 1983 compares to Basic at Ft Sill in 2020... how different are they now?
